Well I am over that latest flu bug, had me pretty sick for a couple of days, but pretty much well now. LadyC has been gone with one of her Attack Shopping pals to Branson, MO this weekend, so thankfully she didn't get it. They went and rode the dinner train and also saw Esther, a live play, said it was gorgeous. She will be back this evening, so that is good, this place is quite empty without her here.

Biggest problem with Halloween decor is it's always made of such flimsy material that it really doesn't stand up to year round decorative needs.

Grrr.....

Made a special exception to do training for a site this morning. Don't normally do training on Mondays, but today was the only day I could work them in for over a month, and they've been waiting for 2 months until some other problems got resolved.

So guess who's not answering their phone this morning?

First two guesses don't count.

I seem to be unable to pay my phone bill using the app or the website. Of course, I could pay it in person or over the phone, but they want an extra $5 for that. The payment system has been slowly getting worse, first it stopped taking debit cards, then Gpay, and now the payment of pals. I can't even log into my account to try. I don't even know what to think... But I'm starting suspect that they're letting all this fall apart so they can make some extra money. I might be paranoid but after the last few years, I will never doubt a company's attempts to squeeze every last dime out of people.

1) Howdy Doody

2) Charlie McCarthy

3) The site

I unintentionally made a subjoke there, implying that the third guess had something similar to the first two. Yet I just panicked during a meeting I set up that we were all missing another meeting we were all scheduled for. Same meeting.

I need to have a serious talk with my grey matter. Wondering if my conscience self is less intelligent than my unconscious self.

Oh no. Puppets. Always controlled by a greater intelligence. Not good. Not good at all.

Think I gonna go have a lie down for a wee bit. Sort things out.

Sounds to me like you need some de-compression time so your brain is able to sort out the various timelines without any further distractions.

So the reason they weren't answering the phone for their training is the same reason I don't typically schedule training on Mondays. She had fires to put out - her gas pumps weren't working, and she was on the phone with those techs. It worked out.

Now I'm dealing with a putz who just doesn't get it.

Last October, Visa/MasterCard started charging higher rates for merchants in Canada who cannot accept chip/tap cards and only mag stripe cards.  A site in Ontario was told this was why their rates went up, and that the solution was upgrade their equipment.   Their solution was to switch to a different processor.    Of course, that processor also started charging them more because they can't take chip/ta, and the rate they quoted was based on the merchant taking chip/tap.  So they found yet a different processor.  That processor was charging them less per transaction, but was charging some extra fees because of large disparities between the pre-auth amount and the final transaction amount.  So we increased the pre-auth amount to match their average transaction size. Then their customers started complaining, because instead of a $4 pre-auth, the pre-auth was now $15 and since it was a mag stripe transaction,, the banks are taking longer to drop the pre-auth charge from the pending transactions on the customer's accounts.

So now the site wants to switch back to their original processor as of October 1st and set his pre-auth amount back to $4.

It's not going to help.  Visa/MC are raising the rates on mag swipe transactions again, effective October 1st, and more and more processors are charging extra fees for large discrepancies between pre-auth & final transaction amounts.

Not to mention every time he switches processors, e get charged a reprogramming fee which we pass on to the site, along with an extra fee for our labor.

Based on these fees and the reprogramming charges, he has probably paid for at least 15% of a new system already - and a new chip/tap system is the only way he's going to lower his fees.

Sounds like there needs to be an incremental scale for charges for reprogramming within a certain time period.  For instance, once every two years gets the base rate,  If it needs to be re-programmed because of a change of service providers at less than a two year interval, the cost increments to the next tier.  Same thing for one year, six month, three month, etc time periods, with each shorter interval incurring a higher fee for the re-programming service.

There's a difference between "needing service" and "abusing the system".

sounds like this customer is an abuser.
