Ten calls in the last five working days. The number doesn't come up in our database, nor in any of my email conversations. I get about five calls a day from strange area codes. Sometimes I play the first few notes of Mary Had A Little Lamb, using the phone keypad. 9 -8 -7 -8 -9-9-9 Try it out. Robocall bots apparently hate music. 7
Glitterwolf
Took this week off so I can actually work in and around the house. Still working on the basement stairs and walls. Already used the waterstop cement, applied epoxy. It's drying and then I will be able to apply another water resistant coating. Will also apply new antislip strips for that stairs, the old ones are pretty worn. Tomorrow my Brother In Law will come over to help fix our groundwater pump, the new filter/suction thingie finally arrived. All in all no hobby time for me this week it seems. Cranky Dog
Other sign that fall season is upon us. Morning frost. I actually had to scrape my windshield before leaving for work. 10
CaptainPete
Phone bill was paid in the end. I ended up going on to the website and kept clicking links to pay my bill until I managed to bypass the 404 I got when trying to log in. Still can't use my debit card, it always says that my information is incorrect, even after entering it by hand. I might have to give them a call. Or maybe file a complaint with some government agency. I've gotten more spiteful in my "old age." In better news, my copy of the Perfect Blue soundtrack arrived and I'm listening to it now. It's kind of fun to listen to the full pop songs they only play in the background for the "band." It also arrived much faster than expected. It was originally quoted as arriving on the 20th of next month. Now, I need to wrap up those tiny Soviet troopers. And I need to look for a squad-level Weird War WWII miniatures game...
Pegazus
I have hopefully infected another engineer with some enthusiasm. He had a block that was “waiting for analysis” that I have hopefully busted. Damn the analysts, full speed ahead. So what if you don’t get results until December? Make a side concept that accounts for the possibility of a bad result jf you truly believe that’s coming. It’s within your engineering authority to do that.

Thoramel
Got a fun surprise today. I did one of my bosses a favor recently and handled some end user testing for him for a new public facing reporting software we're rolling out in a couple of months. As a thank you he dropped off several bags of vacuum sealed fresh hops he harvested this summer. I've no idea why he's growing hop vines as he doesn't brew beer. But I'm glad to take them off his hands. This is enough for about a five gallon batch of beer. And he gave me several bags this size. That's going to reduce my brewing cost by a significant amount for my next few batches. I continue to prefer being paid in money, but a hoppy bonus ain't bad!

You might possibly encourage future contributions along these lines by gifting the person responsible for the contribution with a "generous sample" [I'm thinking at least a growler of finished product] of the product produced using the contributed hops. I'm not sure I beleive you! I know, right? I actually have a few. I just rarely mention them here, since they don't aggravate me. The lead tech for our biggest distributor is another one. When he started off as a junior tech there about 10-12 years ago, I would get frequent service calls from him. After a couple of instances where I couldn't get back to him right away and he no longer needed my help by the time I called back, I realized that if I waited 30 minutes to call him back, he would frequently have figured out his issue on his own by the time I called. So I began deliberately setting a timer before calling him back for most calls, but not all, so no one one would catch on. Eventually, his calls dropped off, and I began shortening the time I took to call him back. A few years ago, I finally admitted this to him, and he laughed. He said he had always wondered about that, especially after he became the lead tech and started doing the same thing to his junior techs because he realized that him having to figure out those problems on his own made him a better tech overall. These days I try and answer his calls first ring, because generally when he calls these days he genuinely needs my help, and even then, most calls aren't more than a few minutes long. 6
Pegazus
Kinda have the same thing happening with a former designer who is now a CAD lead. I apologized once for taking her time on a problem but she said it wasn’t an issue because she knew that when I came looking for help I had already spent nearly an hour on Google trying to solve the issue first. Which was true. I do not like dealing with subcontractors. It’s not that the current one is incompetent, it’s just more likely that he isn’t being given the help he needs as he is new to that company (I think). If I were truly evil, I would threaten to call up the CEO of my own company, suggest an acquisition of the subcontractor, with a subsequent consolidation and liquidation of talent. And being very truly evil would involve that second action not being a metaphor. 5

GEM Oh he'll definitely be getting some of the finished product. There's no way I can drink as much as I can brew. So now, for better or worse, he's on the "give free beer" list. 1
