Hmm. Maybe. But the Embassy Suites was in per-diem, so went with that and it makes things a bit better. Justification is that the breakfast more than makes up for the higher priced room. I do hope they have the evening happy hour but not sure that’s wide spread.

ooh, a nice hotel definitely helps.

I have delusions of being one of the back row chess pieces, but this week has me doubting that.

I'm sure you are a back row piece.  You just have to realize that each square on the board is a smaller chessboard, and each square on that small chessboard is an even tinier chessboard, so on and so forth.

The real question is at what level of the boards does the square you're on change over to a pawn?

Two of the girls, the only ones with their names fully visible, have the same names as my mom and one of her sisters. I now have questions for my deceased grandparents...

Chances are that both selections were based on them being popular names at the time.

G.R.F.F.N FOOD LOG

Stardate: 20230920

The quest for the perfect air-fried burger continues.

Behold an Archer-Burger:

So named for Captain J Archer, USS Enterprise, who time traveled to Chicago circa 2006 (or was it Detroit?), and while there ordered a fast food burger with tomato ketchup as the only topping or addition.

This one is, strictly speaking, an Archer Cheeseburger.

I also ordered a print of a pin-up with my grandfather's plane (other side of my family), which is kind of neat. I didn't realize that she was *ahem* disrobed in the thumbnail. This makes showing it to my dad a little more awkward.

Not as awkward as when his eyes  bug out a bit and he says “Mom?!”

Nice analogy.

And this readily explains why cubicle farms are composed of many many squares.

And as of 4:30pm this afternoon, I might not be going again. With non-refundable tickets. Luckily, they'd become "store credit" but I still will have to do an expense report for them.

But then again, that's a possibility and maybe the odds have changed since I left. I don't dare open my computer at home and get sucked into off hours work.

Thinking about the chess analogy, since I move backwards and forwards so much, I must be a rook. Can't get a good angle on this so not a bishop. I don't hop around enough for knighthood. I am not royal by any sort of means.

Definately a rook.

Since it sounds like you're describing a fractal, my brain is breaking right now, lol.

While that's probably true, except that these ads were about the time they were born, so I have some questions. Also, my grandfather wasn't exactly a great person, so I wouldn't be surprised if he remembered the names from that and pitched them because of that.

Ha. Not possible. His mother was from a tiny town in Idaho and she would have been... Maybe 18-20 when the war started, if I'm remembering correctly. Her husband, my grandfather, was born in 1920, and she had to have been younger than him. As it was the style at the time...
