The Local Yokels who think they are Fireworks Experts are active tonight. But they are not as bad/close as last year . . . so far.

When it hit midnite here it sounded like a warzone. It seriously sounded like the 137th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade was invading but meeting heavy resistance.

Yeah, we were up until 1am, when the brigade broke through the lines and the fire trucks started arriving.

When did this get to be a thing? I seriously don't remember more than a few distant fireworks popping off during my youth.

Load isn't bad but the way the "wow" house loaded up the load is a wow. I think the warehouse workers have been replaced by aliens. I mean how can you explain how a pallet that inside a trailer, got inside intact? We had take the top off to get it off. Sigh.

I saw that a couple times when I was working the back door.  I think I even did it once or twice with bins and pallets being returned to the warehouse.

In my case, the pallets were stacked to the brim and then pushed (pallet scraping the trailer floor) the rest of the way with a power jack.  Normally, you try to keep things "even," but if you've got three stacks going back, but the third stack is only a couple items...well...

Very good question. I never remember fireworks being a thing for New Year's eve when I was a kid, that was always Fourth of July.

I learned while stationed there that Italy is very big on fireworks on NYE.

We might be the only ones here that did any fireworks this year. About 10:30 so the daughter could go to bed i set off 3 different ones in the back yard. The excitement never ends in my life.  Had 2 stiff drinks but slept terrible so get most of the joy of a feeling like I'm hungover with almost none of the expense. But I'm healthier than most of the household so can't complain... much.

Rika is always disappointed with America's celebration of New Year's Day. Not big enough. Should be bigger than Christmas and Thanksgiving wrapped together. Alas, it just doesn't have the family appeal that it does in most parts of Asia. More of an adult holiday than family fun. Suppose we could chase down a boar naked or something to make the calendar change more festive and exciting.

Meanwhile, I need to go put the Cancri stars back in their rightful place. I'm sure I've pissed of a few astronomers. Figure there's something wrong with the ACOT calculation.

Boss texted me around 330 last year & asked if I would came in at 11 tonight.. on one hand I don't get an hour of time & half holiday pay but I technically get to leave at 7, so I can handle that.

Happy New year to everyone, mine is starting out the same as 2022. <_<

So you know how last week the 3rd guy in my crew called in on a load & then didn't bother on the next,  I think I know why.  The last load coworker says "did he have tattoos before?"  I noticed he had both his forearms with a large design in each arm.  I also noticed each design was outlined in red skin ie fresh artwork. I'm pretty sure those are why he was "sick" last week.

Speaking of sick, about 10 minutes before 7 this morning he comes up to me & says he's gotta go,  as he can't handle it anymore. I replied,  "um, why?" He just said he was sick.  I told him that I'm supposed to leave at 7 but... then I just told him to go ie I didn't want to bother with him anymore.

I noticed him going to the front bathroom allot, but tbh I didn't really care.  I ended up working 10 1/2 hrs, with 9 1/2 that being holiday pay. When the ast Mgr came in,  I just told her "Alex said his tum tum & bum bum felt icky so he went home at 7." She just rolled her eyes.

Yah,  2023, you've got a familiar feel so far.

Oh the store is closing early due to the 1st, so I get to come in at 11 again tonight.  First hour is holiday pay again. ::D:

According to the if-it-bleeds-it-leads Local News for the county @Chaoswolf and I inhabit the casualty report was one 8 year old, a boy, hit by a celebratory bullet. They offered few details but reported it was a non-life threatening GSW. Police investigating further.

They did say he was with family on their porch watching fireworks.

@WhiteWulfe (as mentioned in a different thread) what’s the matter with your paw??

I hate when I hear about someone with an appendage that’s injured. 😞

Short version is that on December 8th at about 15:10 I lost my grip on my work cart (a MagLiner Jr, site says they're 44lbs) while pulling it out from the back of my work truck (a two ton Hino that's a few inches short of dock height) and the handle slammed into my left thumb.  Couldn't hold a pencil even for a few seconds for almost three weeks, and it took two before the tenderness and constant pain were starting to subside.  Best I can figure is since I was wearing thick gloves and didn't get a visual confirmation of grip with the right hand (something I usually do - I was probably triple checking clearances behind me at the time) is that I had a phantom grip, aka where I thought I had a grip on the cart until gravity made the cart go WHEEEEE!  Wouldn't have been an issue if I hadn't had two skids in the back making me have to set the cart in sideways.

So yeah, any kind of detail work is something that I'm able to go maybe thirty minutes or so right now, and it's frustrating to no end, but it beats being unable to do anything.  I'm also left handed, so... Yeaaaaah.  It's been a massive hit to mental health, that's for sure.
