Hey y'all Anne's power is out, so she won't be on today after all. Hopefully things will be sorted out tomorrow! 🖤

was afraid of that when San Francisco weather was on my local, Canadian, news this morning.

And with titanium 3D printers, some places are gearing up to test out replacing more than joints. Entire bones could be replaced/repaired.

.. dang. That would have been cool, and might've saved my Mom a LOT of trouble with her right wrist (one of the little bones just.. vanished. She was in a cast for months, and while the world gained a decent flute player (and I was apparently whistling Bach for months), her handwriting was medical-grade terrible ever after...).

Don't remember if titanium was one of the 'safe' metals tho.

Gotta love UPS....Got a notification before the NY's that my package from miniaturemarket was going to be delay from Weds to today. Looked at my phone when I got home last night from the game & now it says Friday. I guess I can't blame MM for the lengthy shipping on this package. <_<

It's even worst with UPS as they don't deliver till like end the of the shift here, so pretty much if I get the package I'll have to wait almost the entire day for it.

Aaand mom's in the hospital. 😩

Context: She hurt her back just before Christmas. The day starts relatively normal. As the day progresses, she aches a bit more. And by the evening, if she stays in the same position too long (her words), her lower back gives out with spasms where she needs to hold herself up against the wall or furniture to take a few steps. With painkillers (Tylenol), muscle relaxants, and alternating between ice packs and hot pads, she manages to rest at night. The meds have been affecting her appetite, her energy levels, and combined with her type 1 diabetes, she was feeling awful.

This has been going on daily for two weeks until last night when the pain became unbearable and the ambulance had to come get her. She didn't want to bother ER during the day if her back was functional, nor call some of our relatives who are doctors and physiotherapists, and two days ago declined my offer of setting up an appointment with the walk-in clinics.

And the kicker. Something similar happened to her last summer, and she didn't tell anyone. 🙄

Earlier last week, we were half-jokingly saying we ought to strap her to a chair and bring her by force to the hospital. Wish granted?

Ugh.  Why did I come back to work after my vacation?  Oh yeah, I like to eat and have a warm place to sleep.

Customer email:  "Can Bob please call me? It will be easier to explain my problem on the phone." (Note - this is every email/voice mail ever from this customer)

Bob (another tech, but not his real name) is off until Monday, so someone else has to call customer.

Call the customer, and it goes something like this:

Customer: So the  amount on this report is double what it should be. Why? Can you fix this?

Me: What report are you referring to? What number on the report? What is the time frame of the report? Can you email me a copy of the report? Why do you think it is double?

Customer (gets mad): I need this fixed now. Can I talk to Bob?

Me: Bob's not here this week. Can you email me a copy of the report you're talking about so we're looking at the same thing?

Customer: You guys know I hate dealing with you via email (Hangs up).

I still don't know what report he's talking about, what number, nor why he thinks it's wrong.  Called Bob, in case there was info Bob knew that would help. Bob has no clue either.

I think I'm getting hooked on these microwave sticky rice bowls from Costco. /cdn-cgi/mirage/13753617adabd9e39b024af5e2faefae6a53898080ec7f18d24f679c9d4dd19d/1280/https://forum.reapermini.com/uploads/emoticons/default_laugh.png

Friend of mine aka the GM of the bi-weekly Pathfinder game, gave me a couple early in December, but I just kinda let em sit in my bag I take up there. One day I decide to try them out & 90 sec later, BAM! Pretty tasty stuff. Since I don't own a Costco card & my parents do, I ask whenever they head over there (anther town, 1 hour or so drive) to pick up a box of them & I'll just pay them for it.

We don’t have Costco neat enough here, but this sounds perfect for my mom. She has a very restrictive diet and really likes sticky white rice, but she doesn’t have a good single-serving option.

There is a customer that comes in Sunday mornings. I sometimes see him & sometimes not, but he's a older man who is stuck in his ways. I recall being in the checkout behind him & the checker asking him if he was a Albertson's rewards member & he said no. The checker then replied, well all you need is a phone number & we can sign you up. His response, my phone is attached to the wall with a very long cord. I don't need to sign up! Now co-worker gets along with him & I haven't had much interaction with him other then "Morning" or whatnot but he told co-worker to tell the boss that the mayo in the squeeze bottle tasted like "Sheep" if you get my drift. Funny thing is co-worker did after he see the boss that day.

The loud noise you heard just before the disconnect of the phone was the "customer" taking careful aim and shooting themselves in the foot.

3d printing is not the for faint of heart, or maybe just not for the ignorant. I did not know you should run a cleaning filament through before changing to a new material. I do know that now AND how to change the nozzle assembly. 🤪

Finally mostly recovered from our big power outage that started on New Year's Eve.

We have running water for the turn of a tap for the first time since circa 7:00PM on New Years Eve.

The control system for our well is designed to function at below freezing temperatures, but not to deal with a power outage of 48 hours+ in sub=freezing temperatures.

Once we finally had power available I put a space heater next to the system and a heating pad over the main pipe.  Everything was finally thawed to the point where with a rattle and a "throat clearing" "cough" the system started flowing again this AM when I performed yet another system reset.

The TV I managed to destroy while fumbling around in the pitch black of New Years Eve will have to wait a few weeks to be replaced.  When the lights went out I fumbled for a flashlight placed next to the TV, managed to run my head into the corner of the TV, trip, and go into "flailing about" mode which knocked the TV off of the table it was placed on.

[Rant On}  These things are so light in weight for their size and so poorly balanced on their stand legs they can be knocked over way to easily.  Having lived most of my life in earthquake prone areas they need to be firmly affixed to a solid surface, which the one I knocked over wasn't. [Rant Off]

Such is Life.

We stayed mostly warm enough and dry during the power outage.  So compared to most people for most of human history we were doing not just OK but quite well, for which I am grateful.
