My wife has had a hell of day. She went to work at 7 like normal, but as I was waking up around noon I heard the front door open & close. She left with the kids before I came downstairs, but later on she said her mom called her at work saying her dad had a seizure & had to come over now. When she got there, it was over & he was semi-asleep. She said it was a minor one . My wife ended up grilling her mom over what has been happening lately, as earlier this week, her dad called both her & granddaughter at 6 am Sunday morning just crying & was worried about both of them. It appears something to do with his medication or lack thereof, as he has not taken it in a couple weeks. Old age forgetfulness I guess, who knows. My wife had to sort out some things with his insurance & then had a bit of a hassle getting it at the pharmacy. It didn't help her mom called saying there were problems with the meds, etc etc. Somedays I wonder if her mom is against her & her dad. Hopefully everything will come back down to normalcy now.
Cranky Dog
Something very Canadian happened to me. It snowed for the last day. Cleared the snow of my car yesterday. Cleared the snow of my car this morning. And while the snow ended at midday, I still had snow over my car this evening. So after work, I go and start sweeping snow off my car with my coat sleeves. I grumble that my wipers are stuck frozen on my windshield. As I start to break them free, I pause. "Wait. Didn't lift my wipers this morning to prevent this?" I take a step back. "This isn't my car!" It just happened to be a dark grey RAV4 like mine which was parked right next to it. Wipers raised like I left them. 1 15

SparrowMarie
I painted today! Then I had lunch and all my productivity went out the window. I have gotten it in my head that I need to transcribe all of my painting notebooks into OneNote... I decided it's much easier to search a digital copy than to search for something through 7(?) different notebooks. The one I'm working on now goes back to 2017. I, also, plan on finding all of these minis and photographing the ones that actually got painted and attach the photo to the page.

Pegazus
I may be talking to Mr Murphy this morning. You know his law. And funnily enough, it may be on it’s original intended meaning: just realized that these little springs that are on a problematic mechanism could be installed two different ways yet still mostly work. Until they get put on the vehicle. From there, repeated opening will lead to two different results. There are no instructions on the drawing for how to do that. If the vendor had two different technicians building them, each could be doing them there own different direction. Which would lead to the problems seen. My day is a lot more interesting than it was an hour ago.

My old group ran several campaigns using a mix of 3e/3.5e and even PF characters for several years. The biggest "house rule" we had to make was that PCs had to be created completely within a single edition. So no creating a 3.5e character and using the PF feat description, for example. Of course, we only had one player who liked to optimize characters, the rest of us payed less attention to the rules and more on the DM's stories. Truth be told, I don't think our group ever realized that was a problem and we mixed and matched from all over the place, never really had a problem with ti... I think it would have done quite well had it been released as "World of Warcraft RPG" or some other popular fantasy video game. Pretty much my feelings exactly. Honestly 4e was a pretty decent tabletop adventure game, and I would have probably given it a better shake if it hadn't of claimed to be D&D In other news, got some photography done this weekend. a LARGE group of Sandhill cranes overwinter near Muleshoe, Tx and we went out to see if we could get some good pictures. Unfortunately we were only able to find them in two areas. One was a lake back up on a working ranch that doesn't take super kindly to random people driving in and doing stuff, the other was out at the Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge, which is freely open to the public, but has clearly defined areas where visitors are and are not allowed to tramp around. So we were able to go up to the observation area by Paul Lake and see where a bunch were along the shorelines of the mostly dry lake, but even with my 600mm telephoto I couldn't get anything much more than vague silohouettes. Driving back into town we spied a bunch hanging out in a recently cut sorgham field and pulled over, they started taking off before we could get anywhere close but I did manage to get a decent flyover shot. Moar work with processing is needed. Other birds were more cooperative though. Green Eyed Monsty
Just got back from confirming with my Credit Union I was subjected to a telephonic Phising Scam yesterday. I was on the phone wrapping up some business when my screen notified me of an incoming call, which I did not take. Wrote down the number and called them back about 5 minutes later. The number I dialed was the main number for our Credit Union and the fellow on the other end looked up our accounts and said they were showing no problems. Less than 5 minutes later I received a call, from the same number, with a guy with an Indian Accent [Tandori Chicken not Mesquite BBQ] claiming they were calling on a Fraud Alert of somebody in Pennsylvania having attempted to charge over $1000 in tickets on Delta Airline. I told him, I don't fly because of a medical condition and I haven't been in Pennsylvania since before 2002. He goes on to state there were additional charges to Amazon. Me; "I don't use Amazon". He says OK they will freeze the charges. End of call. Three minutes later I get a call back, same number, from what sounds like the same guy [there's sounds of a typical call center boiler room in the background, which would be unusual for our regional credit union] wanting "verification information". When he asked for "the last eight digits of your card" the red flags already waving were joined by a chorus of red flares. I demurred, giving the last 4 digits as is customary for most account verification's and the guy got very insistent, at which point I bad him a "Good Day Sir!". Credit Union verified they will never ask for an 8 digit verification and that the entire scenario was a phishing scam as the alleged charges had not shown up on any of our accounts as we went over the last weeks transactions. It's the same old scammer routine where they attempt to make you afraid in the hope that you will panic and give them information they would not be able to tease out any other way. So be warned and be on your guard. They are now spoofing phone numbers of legitimate financial institutions. If you get a suspicious call and want to verify it's a scam ask for the persons name then tell them you will call them back. Not a deliberate attempt, just birds we happened to see on our walk near home. I later told a wildlife photographer about seeing a Major Mitchell's Cockatoo and he was surprised since they're not native to this area. My best guess is that someone is keeping it as a pet and letting it fly free on occasion. Also took a photo of a black swan the same day. Not very noteworthy in Australia - there's one town I know of where the tourist draw is that they have white swans instead of black. The only reason we realized it was a problem was our aforementioned power gamer. He would literally pour over every book he had - and he had a lot - and take the best combo of opitons he could. We found this out one night when he used a feat - I can't recall which one - and the way he described the rule did not match what I had written down for the feat for my PC, whom had the same feat. I thought at first I had made a transcription error - I always create a character binder and type up all the special feats, traits, etc the PC uses so that I don't have to go flipping through the books. But when i compared my notes to the book after the game, my notes were correct. So we called him on it, and he was like - oh, no, I'm using the feat from this Pathfinder book. Feat had exact same name as feat from 3.5e PHB, but worked a bit differently. It wouldn't have been a big deal if his PC had been all Pathfinder, but he was mixing things from 3e, 3.5e and PF, which was allowing some exploits. That's when we shut him down and said "one edition per PC". Later on we switched to 5e, and he got real frustrated and eventually stopped playing with us, because 5e didn't allow the sort of power builds and rules exploits he could get out of 3.5e/PF. In other news, here's my I-D-10-T story of the day: Me, to my daughter before we leave the house this morning: Remember, you have tutoring after school today Her: I know Me, on our way to school: Remember, you have tutoring after school today Her: I know Me, dropping her off at school: Remember, you have tutoring after school today. Her: I KNOW DAD! Me, sitting in the parking lot waiting for her ten minutes ago, texting her: Where are you? Her: I have tutoring today.
