We went down for a wedding plus vacation about 12 years ago. Melbourne, Tasmania, Kangaroo Island and Adelaide. I’ve long been meaning to go back and see the northern part, as well as exploring some of that little island off on the right side… 6

No, but I might someday. I was big into boomerangs for over 45 years, but the person I threw with retired because he moved an hour away one way. I've taken up Disc Golf and Pickleball. Best way to look like a tourist Down Under is to have a boomerang.

I've had Vegemite though, and went to high school with three guys from Australia. And I've seen Crocodile Dundee 1 and 2. 6

Inarah
25 minutes ago, Corsair said: Quizzle for the weekend of 28 & 29 January 2023: Have you ever visited a real fort or castle? 2nd part: Pics? Plenty. I've lived and traveled around the world my whole life. I only have digital pics from the last decade though. Dublin Castle. More of a palace, really. I think it was fortified once. Mostly used for state functions, I'm told. Blarney Castle was a little more scenic: Not a castle at the moment, it's a church in Germany that was once a roman fort. The foundations are still there under it. The remains of Hieldelburg Castle: I love the red stone work. Shame that the whole place is collapsing. The other side of that wall of windows looks over a cliff face that drops to the river. Another crumbling pile: Inside one of the locations we visited. Life was a lot less comfortable than we'd like to believe. That's all I can round up on short notice. And for those non-Americans interested in life in the colonies, here is a reconstructed 1837 Fort Christmas, Florida. 9

I would love to go, but I've yet to even leave the country (although I've been over our neighbors to the north). 3 hours ago, Corsair said: Quizzle for the weekend of 28 & 29 January 2023: Have you ever visited a real fort or castle? 2nd part: Pics? I've been to Fort Atkinson (Nebraska), I've seen where Fort Pitt was, and Joslyn Castle (it's really "just" a mansion). There are much better pictures online, although I do have a couple pictures overlooking the site of Fort Pitt (which just about any post card of Pittsburgh's "Golden Triangle" has the same image--or better). It feels like there's another fort I'm forgetting, but I honestly can't think of what (or where) it would be.
ejala
We visited the Tower my first trip to England, any pics are physical and somewhere downstairs. The month in Italy the art history department was more focused on churches and Roman ruins. The Vatican kinda counts as the papal palace, went to the doge's residence in Venice, and Hadrins villa might be a stretch but was palacial. Pics are from some fortified medieval town San Gign***(really long and unpronouncable, been 20 years and don't remember the rest off hand.) Road trip stop between Rome and Florence. We climbed a lot to the roof of something. Maybe the building in the first pic. The three weeks of wandering around Europe when the month ended I mostly focused on museums. So there was the 8+ hours straight spent in the Louvre, which was a castle. But more vivid is climbing across the Osha violation of the roof of Sacre Couer, and getting temporarily locked up there with an older Spanish couple because it was the end of visiting hours and some priest locked the access door to get back down. We were found after a harrowing 15-30 minutes. My hard drive died and ate the next year's pics of a month in Britain. Somewhere have physicals of a disposable camera's worth of pics of Brighton villa. But again it was the art history department, so more museums and some churches than castles.
