Quizzle for 30 January 2023:

What is [or was] a TV show you wound up liking and didn't think you would?

Downton Abby - wife started watching it in our small home, and so I would do something else while gradually listening to more and more of the show.
halfway through first season I gave up, and we just watched all of it together.

I'm with Chaoswolf.  Walking Dead.  I hadn't watched any until the 5th or 6th season. We quickly caught up enjoying the show and then lost interest.

Have you ever visited a real fort or castle?

2nd part: Pics?

I've been to a few forts here & there across the US. The last one we visited was Fort Stevens over near Astoria OR. I think that was in 2018 maybe? It's been way too long since I was on that part of the state.

Fun fact: Only time the US has ever been fire upon during WWII was from a Japanese submarine at this Fort.

I'm gonna say Top Gear (British version). I figured it was some sorta car show but never really thought much of it, till my son started watching clips on youtube. Funny stuff, love British humor.

Yes!  First off, I was born in Ft Sill, but I have no pictures of that!  I grew up in Astoria, so I went out to Ft Stevens a lot.  Nowadays when I go back to town, I spend way too much time at Ft George, the local brewery!

I went to the remnants of a Roman fort in the Lake District of the UK, but that was back in the 90s, and pix would be buried in a shoebox.  I have pictures somewhere of the Red Fort in Delhi, but none on the phone.  I do have a few phone pix of Qutab Minar, which was pretty spectacular and nearby.  Also, I have a few pictures from outside the Golden Temple of Amritsar.  I don’t think it’s quite a fort or castle, but pretty close…

Digging back, I distinctly remember telling my housemate back in ‘89 that I found Seinfeld’s “did you ever notice…” standup a little weak, so no, I wasn’t planning on watching his new sitcom.  I ended up watching a few by about midway through the first season, however, and it grew on me… Back then, of course, it was all appointment viewing, so you either watched or heard about it, no reruns, no DVR, and nothing on demand!

both of my grandfathers met my grandmothers when stationed at Ft Stevens in WWII.  They married local girls and settled down there!

Arrow. I thought anything on the CW channel would be bad, especially when I'd hear advertisements for it on the car radio. Four or five years later I found myself binge-watching it on Netflix after I'd watched the Flash's first season and saw crossover episodes. Thoroughly enjoyed it for the most part (last few seasons were so-so, but overall a good show).

Trailer Park Boys. Totally outside of what I normally watch, but I fell in love with how good of buddies the guys are. It's true, only the best of friends go to prison together.

Me, too. My cousin said it was really good. It's a lot like Ken Follet's books with the character development and backstabbing, so I do really enjoy it.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine.  I remember when it first started the commercials were kind of lame, so I didn't check it out.  Started watching last year when we were looking for a short show, and are now on season 5, I think.

Fremulon.

Not a Doctor.

It's been a while.  Most of the time, I've got a pretty good idea whether or not I will like something--and more than enough things I should be doing with my time.  Now that I think about it, there are more shows that I thought I would like and then discovered elsewise.

I'll admit that I was hesitant regarding The Walking Dead, but I figured that if I wanted more sci-fi/horror then I need to watch some from time to time--plus I figured it would never catch on.

Downton Abby was a coincidence.  Mrs. Strawhat was already enjoying it and I happened on a marathon one weekend and go sucked in.

I almost hate to say it, but I think the last time I went into a show counting on  really not liking it (agreeing to watch to keep the peace) was Xena: Warrior Princess/Hercules: The Legendary Journeys...so sometime in the mid-to-late 90s.

In honor of Australia Day yesterday, have you ever visited "Down Under"?

No, but maybe someday.

I visited several north american forts.  There's actually one just down the road.  Never been to a big castle.

What are these things on TV that don't involve sportsball?

Do you have any travel plans for February?

[And thanks for great answers!]

Yes!  To and from work, to and from grocery store, and.... That's probably about it.

It's February, it's cold, and tax return can't be filed until close to end of Feb. 😛

I'll be out of the state several times during Feb.

(I only live a few miles from the state line, so doing nearly anything means leaving the state I live in.)

I wouldn't say it's a long trip, but at the end of the month, my wife & I are going to spend the night in Boise after a Old Dominion concert.

We did this last time we saw a concert over there & it was nice not having the hour drive home at some late hours of the morning.
