Moderator Popular Post Chaoswolf Posted January 12 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted January 12 I grabbed this bear from the most recent Box of Goodwill, and painted it almost right away. It's kinda small by today's standards, it was made in 1984. I've always been a bit intimidated by painting animals; for some reason I got it set in my mind that it's hard to actually make them look GOOD. Sure, just paint the fur brown and it's done, right? Well, no there's a bit more to it than that, and it was that little bit more that I always got hung up on. Well, I'm glad I finally managed to get over it; I pulled up some pictures of bears on my computer and just did the best I could. The reason I mention this is because I'm sure someone else is going through the same thing. Please just go ahead and try the thing, no one is going to come beat you up if it's not 'right'. Anyway, I hope you like it.

Glitterwolf
Good job! When painting animals it helps me to look at pics of the real thing for reference.

Magic Lantern
First cool bear and cool base Fur is a beggar! I agree with the looking at real animals bu t I'm watching a lot of videos - I have been painting and repainting the wolf/dragon thing from Bones V for weeks and can't get his furry bits right. I vaguely remember reading an article years ago about the hobby of painting miniature horses and the experts did it with powdered paint almost like eyeshadow and it was ultra-realistic. I might try a cheap palette
Grand Slam
I know what you mean about painting animals. I think it's because we're all familiar with what a real bear is supposed to look like, so we know when it doesn't look right (when you're painting dragons and orcs and such, there's more room for artistic license). That said, this guy looks great. I really like the skin color around his face/muzzle, in particular. Something about his facial expression and the peaceful base make him seem like a happy guy out for a walk in the meadow without a care in the world.

I think you may be onto something with the idea of knowing how it's supposed to look. I was quite pleased with how well he came out, so I think that may have carried over to the basing I gave him. 1 hour ago, Paw Rugg said: Bear!? I'm there! I love this guy. Nial ap Morai
Very nice work. Love bears. Bonus is that the bear can make really nice floral arrangements for visiting druids
