Java Fiend
At my FLGS today, I saw the new DHL Black Orcs blister - for $11.99. Eleven dollars and ninety-nine cents for two orcs. That's six bucks per figure. Eeesh. They're really nice, but there is no way I am paying six bucks for an orc. An ogre maybe, but not an orc. I understand the whole "tin prices are rising" argument, and I don't blame Reaper for setting their prices to keep up their revenue stream. But I won't be buying many new Reapers if these prices stay as high as they are. My money will be better spent trolling eBay for cheap old Ral Partha and Grenadier figures, instead. Enchantra
I still think Reaper's prices are far better than many of the companies out there. GW for instance is very high. You probably pay for one miniature with GW the same price that you would get two from Reaper.
Neyuttad
I know what you mean and I do feel the same. I'm not blaming Reaper either, it's just that my mini-monthly-money-pot isn't big enough to support as many minis as before. I'm already buying less. As for Reaper's prices being less than other companies, it still doesn't change how much I have to spend.
Java Fiend
True. Which is why I have never bought GW and never will. I'm not blaming Reaper for jacking their prices up; in fact they're great because they have kept their prices lower than most everyone else. But now even the low-price guys are becoming expensive. It's just disheartening.
Durak
That may be more of a proprietary issue rather than a reaper pricing one. Repear has them listed as 10 on their site.
skavenbabe
and the war store has them for $7.99. But then you have to pay shipping so it will even out to the same i think in the end.
Durak
Well there is the shipping issue, but any good shopper knows buying stuff in quantity helps offset those little charges
Ichabod Crane
You might need to shop around for a new FLGS. Ask them if you preorder or buy a set quantity if they would give you better pricing. Doesn't hurt to ask if you know you're getting them anyways and like skavenbabe said ... "shipping charge". Meady
You probably pay for one miniature with GW the same price that you would get two from Reaper. My friend dragged me into the GW trap. He conviced me to play warhammer 40K now I gotta watch bartertown for almost all my models, cause to buy them new will crash my cash! pae
Well there is the shipping issue, but any good shopper knows buying stuff in quantity helps offset those little charges Indeed. The War Store -- 10 - 20 % off and free shipping on orders over $60 Chaos Mail Order -- 25% off all Reaper minis, and free shipping on orders over $75 Albino Rhion -- 20 - 25 % off Reapers (and others), and free shipping on orders over $
TKD
They're really nice, but there is no way I am paying six bucks for an orc. An ogre maybe, but not an orc. It's rough. I want those two guys, but they're too damn expensive. I just bought a blister pack of minis with 6 guys in it for $18....that's more like it. I understand the price increase, but it does mean I'm buying a lot less minis lately. I don't think anyone wins. Sigh.
coogle
Yeah, quit whining. People in the countries where you could actually visit Reaper if you wanted to.... sigh.....
haldir
prices don't bother me much, but I do have a problem paying over 10 for a single mini, not a giant blister (like the Warlord eagle) or box thou. One reason why I could never get into GW stuff (that & those goofy evil dwarves ). I put a order for those orcs with DH last week sometime, but I also order other stuff with it, which offsets the shippings costs, buy in bulk & it's deifeintly cheaper than retail. Normally I don't buy multi pack 8ish figs (like the bugbears, gnolls etc etc) but there was something about those 2 that I like. You wanna talk expensive, try nascar modelling, pay around 10 - 16 for a kit & then around 9 - 12 for aftermarket sheets + your paints (thou those can be used for other models) + other misc stuff, get pretty expensive, espically when you have to order most of your sheets. I'll take buying minis over buy models & decals any day of the week. (one reason why I severly cut back on my nascar stuff) Just think Reaper could increase the prices even more, but I don't think they want to right now, they know their customers are happy with the products & the prices they can put them at, might not be as cheap as it was, but then again alot of things theses aren't. Moderator Froggy the Great Posted September 16, 2004 Moderator Share Posted September 16, 2004 Well, the only way I afford the hobby is by demoing it. Otherwise, I flat out could not afford to maintain both my hobby and a mortgage/car/marriage, etc. Sorry, but the hobby would be the one that got dropped there. I did the GW thing, and I have more BFG Imperial and Eldar than I will ever be able to field. That was very expensive. Now I make my own ships if I want to expand that fleet, I scratch-built/cast my Warmaster army, and it was still more expensive than I liked. So yeah. Reaper is expensive. However, their games are good, and demoing them is also good.
Darkstar
If you think collecting minis is expensive, try converting and painting them for 10 hours a day 5 days a week and see how much you have left after buying the minis replacement brushes, paints, basing materials, sculpting supplies, primer, gas masks, lightbulbs, valium etc... Just kidding about the valium part! It's not a cheap hobby for sure. But I don't feel so bad, I know plenty of peeps who spend way more than I spend on minis in a month on drinking and partying. These cats can throw away like $80.00 a night on a weekend "down the pub" as they say. It's all relative I guess. All I know is that the $32.00 I spend a week on minis for my own use, well in a few years those minis will still be around, unlike the beer they bought at the bar...who knows, they might even go up in value one day...as far as their collectible value is concerned. Many years from now. Many Many years.
