coogle
Probably the best thing I like about Reaper is their mini's aren't (yet) designed for a particular universe as much as say GW or even their L5R figures. You have generic fantasy figures, it gives them that much more flexibility. They also aren't created based on what stats they will be given in a rule book, which might be changed later, because the figures aren't selling well. Bottom line is I like the approach of mini to game rather than the other way.
CripDyke
yeah, my first comics were US$0.25. of course, my income was US$0.35/week. So comic books have certainly come down relative to my earnings!
shakhak
What about fantasy figures? Start with some character singles. Reaper Duke Gerrard $8.95 PP Comandant Irusk $10.95 GW Dark Elf Assassin $11.95 Then some fodder. Reaper Templars with Sword and Shield $15.95 for 3 figures ($5.31 per figure) PP Winter Guard $9.95 for 2 figures ($4.98 per figure) GW Dark Elf Shades $14 for 3 figures ($4.67 pet figures) Some of these quotes are wrong. Duke Gerrard consists of ALOT more metal than an Elf Assassin. it would be more fair to compare the Female Justicar 14093 : Finari Reaper's price: $ 4.49, who is also a hero and not the leader of the army. Duke would be more comparable to a Valten, Champion of Sigmar(who still consists of less metal): $12 Also your pricing for the Templars is wrong, from any website(including reaper) I visited I got this price(or less): $11.99: which means per figure is actually, $4.00. So fooling myself I think not, I know I'm saving money on Reaper Minis.

Lars Porsenna
I tend not to worry a helluva lot about GW pricing anymore as I simply don't have any further need to buy their gear. I was going to put a Rohan army together for Lord of The Rings as a display piece, but the quality of their plastics is, to be honest, disgraceful. Wow, that's the first time I heard that sort of statement with regards to GW plastic LotR figures! On some of the other lists I'm on there's people speculating about which historical army they can use them in, they're (apparantly) so good...(short answer: none). Damon. FuzzyIzmit
I personally think that GW stuff is over priced, but what bugs me the most is the GW store (they have one in Great Lakes Crossing). I went there just to look and see what they had while I was down state...ya know, window shop. They had one of those huge elephant type things from the LotR, and they didnt even clean the flash off of it before they painted it (nothing more than a layer of color and drybrushing)! Doesnt that just scream that they care about the craft?!?!?! All of thier mini's were like that, just dry brushed and not even cleaned up, just taken out of the box and cruddily painted. That turned me off right there. If they dont even care enough about the craft to try and make it look presentable (in my eyes, I know the vast majority probably didnt even notice) they arent going to get my money. shakhak
I believe he was quoting in the cost in Canadian dollars. That would make some since. But the GW prices don't seem to reflect that. Is there just not an increase or did I miss something? All of the things I looked at were online also, at the retailers shops or others(for reaper) and I used what I found to be the highest. Thanks for noticing that, I skipped over to the pricing comparisons. But for those spending american dollars it's a very noticible difference. 15 bucks for a troll or 8 for Uru, troll chief. Same size and a better skulpt(opinion).
TKD
I agree, last time I went to my FLGS, I was going to get several minis, but when I looked at the cost and considered that I have 200+ unpainted minis at home, I put them all back. I have NEVER before walked out of my FLGS without atleast one miniature. Yeah, that's exactly where I am. Saying that I could have more expensive hobbies doesn't change the fact that this one has gotten more expensive. Saying I could have spent that money on 1/35th scale models or NASCAR or beer doesn't do much for me. It's like saying "I'm taking up smoking...okay, now I quit, I've saved hundreds of dollars!" The price hike may make perfect sense due to the demands of the market, material costs, and so on...but it does not agree with my wallet. So I am buying less minis. I have seen minis I would have a hard time passing up in the past and walked away from them because the sticker price is too high. As for the GW codex price hike, I know paper/printing costs have been steadily escalating over the years. Look at the prices of RPG books and even paperbacks for that. abngi
As for the GW codex price hike, I know paper/printing costs have been steadily escalating over the years. Look at the prices of RPG books and even paperbacks for that. Don't look at the rise in RPG books, compare the ones today with a GW codex. GW is what - 64 pages for $20 (no extra charge for the typos)? Now look at a $20 RPG book. There is a bigger market for the GW stuff, so the design costs are spread over more books. Back on the original topic, however, I don't think that game companies will lower their prices when tin prices fall. However, it would delay the regularly scheduled price hike from inflation and such.
smokingwreckage
If you're married, and both partners drink and smoke, you can pay off a new car by quiting. I'mthinking of putting together some Warhammer Impire troops from corvus belli historicals- they're very nice.
Zordana
Im more willing to overlook the price of miniatures than I am to overlook the price of paint. Especially when I am painting the walls of my house, go to Solver and purchase a 500-750ml 'sample' container of paint for less than I would pay for a pot of GW or any other brand of paint. *sigh*
Digital M@
I don't mind the paint cost as much because it lasts me so darned long. Most paint colors last me years and years. But you are right, those prices have more than crept up and if I had to start from scratch I shudder to think what it would cost.

It may be cheap, it may not flow as well as regular paint but the price is right and after working with it a bit you get to know how to use it so you can do all the stuff with it like you would with the more expensive paints. You just learn that formulas you use might be different than if you used a regular miniature paint.
Zordana
I think that's kinda terrible! But im poor and stuff :) I can get all 72 game colours from a hobby site in the uk for 108 pounds including shipping (roughly $250aud i think). I also enquired with another hobby store in australia about bulk buying. The owner only stocked model color vallejo but he said if i boughtt 60-70 he could do it for $3.70 a pot and free shipping. (his regular price is $3.90) He also said if I could get a few people together he would knock it down to $3.50 :) But Im saving up to buy the entire Game Colour set from the UK store. Sorry for the vagueness, (is that even a word?) I know that posting retailers on some forums is a no no, so I just left them out. :) I only really mind about the paints when I sit and think about how little you actually get. The GW pots I use frequently tend to run out or thicken quite quickly. Which is why I need to invest in some Vallejo instead. I still havent called that aussie supplier of W&N brushes. Keep forgetting.
