kristof65
Looking for some advice on how to best convert this Khan to a more dynamic pose, as if it was currently moving. Not sure where to make my cuts, and what issues I may run into. This is for a diorama, so I don't have to worry about handling.
Corsair
I went and looked at a couple of Khans here too. I think that you wight be able to get by with just major work on one leg. If you can pin the "base" leg to allow just rocking it at the ankle and leaving the foot anchored to the base, maybe you can get by with slicing the other foot loose and using a "kick" forward or back to give it a striding effect. So I'm cutting the feet off of the base to better integrate them into the display. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, though there is room for a mistake. Which just means I may have a pile of "damaged" Khan parts as part of my diorama. I'm thinking about trying to move one leg back and reposition the foot to have just the "toe" touching the ground, which will necessitate tweaking the leg & foot positions a bit. That's the part I'm nervous about - i want to make sure I make my cuts correctly so I have minimal putty work and that it looks natural. Well, as natural as a 30 foot tall mech can look, anyway. I probably just need to see if i can find some sort of reference picture with the same sort of leg structure.

Hind leg of a dog? But the CAV lacks a knee joint. The mech leg has one less joint than a similar animal leg.

I think these are more like a bird's legs. But I was thinking of looking at CAV and Battle tech pictures rather than try and find a similar animal. Once you research it, I think you’ll find that Dinosaur legs, Chicken legs, any bird leg, (birds are dinosaurs) or Dog legs all have the same scheme of joints: Hip-Knee-Ankle-BallofFoot-Toes …with size, placement, and length of those elements being the variables. Maybe some CAV concept artist came up with something not animal based.
Corsair
Maybe this Battletech Strider?
TGP
So is it the NORM for this mech model to have two different legs designs?
Brother Jim
It is pretty much the norm for older battletech art to be inconsistent like that. For some units it's really bad, like this one. The Locust or Cicada might work better. https://www.sarna.net/wiki/File:Locust_LCT-1V_FSW.jpg https://www.sarna.net/wiki/File:Cicada_RGilClan_v28.jpg
kristof65
So here is my conversion. It won't stand on it's own, but that's OK since I'll be pinning it to the module.
