Question March 9th.

What was the last thing you did that is out of your comfort zone?

Reason? / how did it go?

I went to a one year old's birthday party for my cousin's umpteenth kid. Normally I would avoid such things but I haven't seen him or his family in quite some time so it seemed like the right thing to do. While there I had to interact with numerous children under the age of five. Could have been just a few, could have been dozens. They all look the same to me. Normally having a conversation with a stunted little proto-human that insists on touching you with their sticky hands is way out of my comfort zone. And I had to do just that multiple times throughout the afternoon. But by the end of the day several of the kids there had learned a couple of new finger gestures and I didn't pick up any nasty kid germs. so I guess it went okay.

I replaced the LCD screen on my 3d printer. I'm not a tech person and usually I have to build up some confidence before I do something like this. I'm always afraid I will ruin it.

With help from youtube and advice from forumites it worked out well.

Back porch with a cup of coffee and a good book.

Had to preach at our Church a few weeks ago, I normally teach a Sunday School class, but not preaching. I guess it went okay, nobody left the church!

The last time I volunteered to teach primary was quite a few years ago. I had six or eight kids about 10 years old. I totally nailed the Q&A part. Kid 1: Was Jesus a zombie? Me: No, Jesus has free will; zombies do not. Kid 2: Could Jesus do double back flips? Me: Probably, but he chose to inspire the people with more lasting miracles. It's almost like I still have the mind of a 10 year old... They haven't asked me to do it again, though.

Jesus came back with the ability to raise the dead, and many other things, so.... Lich would be a lot more appropriate than zombie...

Presently I am looking at starting a business so I can put in a tender for the landscaping contract at the post office. We need more casual work. We're learning all about business insurance today. It's frustrating. Everyone wants to insure my push mower for $2 million and I have to give everybody I call the same info after sitting on hold for 10 min.

I signed us up for ReaperCon 2022.

None of us had been to any gaming convention before.  I wanted something that would push all three of us out of our comfort zone, so that we could have it as a shared learning experience.

We’re counting down the days until RC 23!

QUESTION March 1st.

Do you prefer to live in an Urban Environment or a Rural Environment?

Why?

Rural because fewer people.  Sure you give up some things, but nowadays you can just order stuff and if you really want to do something all you give up is some extra drive time.

Concerts/Theatre/Musicals etc...

Do you like them?

And do you prefer to go there or see it on TV/Screen at home?

Not really my thing, so if I had to I would rather do it from the comfort of my own home.

There was some recent family stuff that was no fun, but I guess it's gone as well as it can.

I guess I'd have to go with spinal surgery (receiving, not performing).  I don't think that is really in anyone's comfort zone.

Reason?  The alternative was slowly (or quickly) getting permanent nerve damage, eventually to the point of losing functionality to everything below the waist.

It went pretty well, some nerve impact to my left foot, which so far seems to be recovering.

Last thing that didn't involve me being unconscious?  Starting a new job after 24 years with the same company.

Reason?  Layoffs at the old jobs.

I guess it went ok, I'm still employed , going on 4? years?  Really.  Jeez, a pandemic really throws off how long some things seems to have been.....

I suppose the most recent thing would by my grandson's birthday party.  It was a mix of families (Eldest's ("our") side, about five of us, a couple family friends, and twenty of son-in-law's family ("their" side) in a fairly small house.  I told Mrs. Strawhat that this was about three times as many people as I was comfortable with.  I've met of son-in-law's family at least a couple times, but I don't see them enough to remember more than a couple names.

It went "ok" although my nerves were too jangled to eat or drink anything.

It occurs to me the intent of this question was to consider things respondents voluntarily tried, or signed up for, or attended.

Like taking a skydiving flight for the first time…

But:

It is interesting that most responses (mine included) to this question were activities that the respondents were forced into by various means.

WEEKEND QUESTION March 10th /March 12th.

We're all in different stages of Life.

What are /were your goals in Life and did you achieve them?

Which one are you most happy with/proud of, which ones are you still working on?

What are your plans to achieve them / what did you do to achieve them if you already "there"?

My life's ambition was to become a crazy old man. I have succeeded in stellar form. AND all the nurses at Son Matt's clinic think I am adorable.

It has been a life well lived.

WEEKEND QUESTION March 10th

[ … ]
What are /were your goals in Life and did you achieve them?

When I was 5 a large number of (well meaning?) adults seemed to think that when they met…

…that the thing to do was ask it:

”What do you want to be when you grow up?”

After being asked that question the first six times, 5 year old me settled on “driving a cement truck“ as my pat answer.

Never achieved that.

You're right!

See how we tend to set aside our own anxieties/fears/discomfort in such circumstances.

Teenage ambitions were to learn to fly, own a Jeep and a Corvette. Hoped to meet the right girl and get married.

Which one are you most happy with/proud of, which ones are you still working on?

Owned the Jeep, met a wonderful lady and we have been married for 38+ years! Have shelved the flying and Corvette ideas.

What are your plans to achieve them / what did you do to achieve them if you already "there"?

Got a good job with lousy working conditions and am now retired with an excellent pension. While not wealthy, we are well off. And grateful to God for such a wonderful lady.
