QUESTION MARCH 16th.

Marvel , DC Universe or other ( which one) ?

Which is your favorite and why

I burned out on comics in the early 90s, like around the time I graduated from hs in '91. I use to read titles from both publishers + some off-brands (Image had just started up, for example). While reading so many titles, I came to despise the "guest-star" issues. If want to read about Wolverine, I'll read his own comic (which I did). Also this was the era of the fancy, multi-covers that Marvel was pushing on to it's readers & I got tired of that as well. Funny, the only title that came out alive from this was "Bone" by Jeff Smith. I loved it simplicity & the story & artwork were top notch. I still try to read that one, whenever they put out a special issue. Funny thing is I won't touch/re-read the colorized versions. Bone first came out in B&W & it will always be B&W to me.

As far as today, I really haven't enjoyed the DC movies/series all that much, most of them are ehh. About the only experience I have with the DC movies/tv is whenever my daughter would watch it (as she is the DC fan in the house). Also I took her to see the Henry Cavill Superman movie. Now, I've enjoyed the MCU (especially Guardians of the Galaxy & Avengers movies). also it helps that at the time, my son & I would go see the newest one on the day it premiered here in town, so a couple of hours of father/son bonding time. Since Avengers: Endgame we haven't been to the theater to see any of the newest flicks. My son has watched a bunch of them on tv or my wife has rented a movie, but I really haven't been into them as much since A:Eg, I don't know why tbh. I mean I've enjoyed the movies, whether or not they are bad (Thor 4? the one with She-Thor) or good (Spiderman (the one with McGuire & Garfield in it)).

I guess part of the enjoyment was being with my son to watch the movies. I think after Endgame, I've only seen maybe the Spidey flick mention above. I want to watch the others, I just wanna watch them in their release timeline (starting with Black Widow, so yah, it'll be awhile).

Funny thing is I like Marvel overall better, but I think there are more characters in DC, I like better.

D: None of the above. I never much cared for Super Heroes. They never came across as being heroic to me.

I like both, in the movie department, Marvel had the edge until Disney took over. DC's bringing Aquaman out as a true powerhouse made me very happy. Looking forward to finally seeing Black Adam as I want/hope to see Hawkman get the same respect.

Couldn't tell you which was which, never really got into it.  When I read comic books it was mostly from indie publishers, and short lived.  Getting ahold of new issues was a hassle each month, mostly based on my circumstances (finances, transportation, time, etc) so I let it go.   I have enjoyed all the recent movies, though. At least the ones we've seen. I think we're behind a couple.

I have seen a few movies of both universes.  DC is kinda boring, and mcu is too complicated.  Comics from both are too complicated.  I started reading manga before I tried a western comic, and that was Sandman. So I like stories that have beginnings and endings and aren't recycled and retconned ad infinitum.  If I read something I want to start at the beginning and read to the end.  That doesn't seem to be a thing mainstream superhero comics have.

So the answer is Virtigo and Dark Horse.  Extended Sandman and Hellboy universes.

I was comics obsessed as a kid, and still have boxes stashed in the garage.  Having verified that my child really wasn’t interested, they’re probably destined for a big sell off.  Because I collected in the 70s and 80s, my tastes shifted from the more kiddie DC stuff to the more adolescent Marvel as I got older.  I loved the XMen, Iron Man, WWBN and Dr strange, but I also found Byrnes illustration work for the New Teen Titans every bit as good.  I have a few real classics, the best would have to be FFannual#3, the marriage of Reed and Sue, with a Jack Kirby autograph.  The movie that covered that plot ground was almost embarrassingly terrible.  And how on earth could you so badly screw up FF#49 (first appearance of the Silver Surfer)? Aaargh!

I’ve preferred the last few years of MCU movies, but like most, I’m getting a little burned out on the compulsive plotting to keep ticket sales going.  I’ve loved the experimental nature of the tv shows: hit or miss, at least they’re trying stuff.  Weird that Wanda Vision was so poignant, but then the Dr Strange movie that retold the same story fell so flat.

That said, in my opinion, the Watchmen TV series just reset the standard for comic originated entertainment.  I just don’t think it’s very representative of DC.  I would give the creative team there any ‘classic’ and expect to be blown away…

Both.

I like pretty much anything that started life as a comic book, which is weird because I don't particularly like comic books.

When I first started reading comics, I was an exclusive X-Reader.  I didn't ever really read anything beyond the X-Titles as the number of those grew during the 90s.

I eventually branched out a bit by reading things Marshal Law and a few DC Vertigo titles as well as Dark Horse and indie things like The TickGrendel, Mage, Sin CityThe Crow, and Gregory and more! I also started picking up Shadow of the Bat and Legends of the Dark Knight, while also picking up the odd Elseworlds titles (Kingdom Come is especially noteworthy).  I read a lot of comics in the day, many of which I'm leaving out.  I eventually tired of the endless crossover events which seemed to be 20 pages of recap and splash pages of the main teams fighting and two pages of plot and stopped reading/buying.

When it comes to movies, I'm pretty much exclusively Marvel unless it comes to Batman--although I've not seen anything since Christian Bale hung up the cowl.  I just haven't had the urge to see any of the Justice League movies.  I have seen Constantine, Green Lantern, and Watchmen, as well as NetFlicks' adaptation of The Sandman.

I kind of wish that someone would get the gumption to do a Westley Dodds Sandman series or movie.  I dug Matt Wagner's Sandman Mystery Theatre.

Like some of the Marvel movies, really don't like how you have to have watched all of them for things to make sense - I don't mind a bit of crossover between the movies or callbacks from one to a previous one, but when you have to watch 7+ movies to understand what is going on in the one you are currently watching it's a royal PITA.

Liked Tim Burton's Batman, and the Batman Begins series

beyond that I couldn't really care less about DC vs Marvel, didn't/don't read any of the comics..."

When it comes to comics my preferences are Tintin and Asterix

I'm not real into super heroes but of the two Marvel was a more common choice for me. As a kid I only subscribed to a few comics and they were Marvel although not part of their main universe. As an adult I prefer the Marvel movies over DC.

Na na na na na na na na Batman!

My five year old nephew, a male friend and I were having a heated discussion:

Nephew: "Spider man is the coolest."

Me: "Nuh-uh. Batman is way cooler than spider man."

Friend: "Spider man is cooler. He has awesome powers. What does Batman have?"

Me: "Bruce Wayne's money. He could buy Spider man and make him work for him. He'd be like 'Peter, are those your cobwebs? I thought I told you to dust this place'."

WEEKEND QUESTION March 17th / March 19th.

Do you ( or did you) own a Fish Tank/ Terrarium/Paludarium?

What species live(d) in there?

PICS?

I don't, but my parents did, unfortunately they kept it on a table that wasn't quite big enough and one day it cracked right along the overhang.

There were quite a few kinds of fish in there but I can't remember what.
