QUESTION March 1st.

Do you prefer to live in an Urban Environment or a Rural Environment?

Why?

I grew up in Chicago, currently live in a very rural area. The quality of life here far outweighs any conveniences of inner city living for me.

Some combination of both. A small town with a big (but still on the small side) city not too far away. NOT someplace like NYC. I really don't like big cities; I'm not super thrilled with living in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, but that's where my job brought me,  so here I am.

I like both, for different reasons. I love the peace, beauty, and open spaces of rural areas.  However, I also love the conveniences of a big city, a good public transit system, and being able to get anywhere, or anything, any time of the day or night.  Meanwhile I live in an older suburb, close enough to shops, entertainment and necessities, far enough away from crime, noise, and crowded areas.  I don't have public transit, but I have a yard big enough to garden, and neighbors who don't care if the grass isn't mowed or one of our cars isn't registered.   Would like to be closer to museums and hospitals, and retail areas, but not willing to put up with snobby neighbors.

Whew, tough call!  I grew up in a city, a few blocks from the post office and downtown.  But, it was a very small city, ~10,000 pop.  That was actually a pretty nice arrangement to grow up in.  I lived in a city in college, and hearing a bus stop at the intersection outside my bedroom every 20 minutes got pretty old, pretty fast.  I don’t think I could go back to that.

The upshot is that I’ve always leaned towards “rural, but not remote.”  I don’t want to plan two weeks of shipping around a 50mile round trip, but I also don’t want anyone around that will complain about amplified guitars, shop equipment and miscellaneous mounds of ‘cool stuff.’  Right now, that means we’re in deep suburbia.

Yes, I’m a bad neighbor…😀

Urban, all the way.  Bigger the city, the happier I am, though I've been in a relatively small city for the last couple decades.  I love the services, the convenience and the anonymity of getting lost in the massive crowds in places like Madrid, Hong Kong, Mexico City, Beijing...  And conversely, walking those cities in the middle of the night when things are eerily quiet is magical.

Neither, preferably.  A medium-sized town is ideal for me, so I can have more space than in the city, but not the isolation of the country.  I like to have stores and restaurants nearby, but I far prefer house living to apartment living.  But if I have to choose between these two, I'd go rural; the space is worth more to me than the amenities (perhaps because I don't generally like people all that much...).

I'm from the country and I like it that way. I tried living in the city, I can't do it. I think I'm culturally impared. City just doesn't make sense to me, the bigger the city, the bigger the confusion. I don't think the country is for everyone. You have to be prepared and self-reliant. I think I'm an agoraphile; big, open spaces delight me, and I'm certainly an introvert, so I'm very happy with my country life. Being snowed in is about the only thing I don't like. And we have to drive the garbage to the dump, which isn't much fun. But the trade-off is we can bark and yell all we like and nobody cares. Clothes are optional, too.

I've lived in both. There's pros and cons for each. Urban the size of NYC is great due to public transportation, but I hate being crammed around everyone. Love rural because I feel I have more privacy, but then I have to drive far to get somethings that aren't available in town or I have to order it. Right now, I prefer rural. I like having a large space that is all mine. Plus, people kind of bite. Literally and figuratively.

QUESTION March 1st.

Do you prefer to live in an Urban Environment or and a Rural Environment?

Why?

I grew up in a rural environment, but I like the closeness of amenities in an Urban environment.  I live minutes from shopping, but I look out my window and have trouble seeing any neighbors.  I can walk a few miles south without hitting a house or road.  The best of both worlds.

I'm not fond of very developed areas, but I'm not exactly fond of remote areas either.  I like the 'burbs better as you get a nice mix of things, and can go to either when the desire arises.

If I were forced to choose, I'd likely choose the more rural area.  I like some of things that the bigger cities have to offer, but the quantity of people and level of other sensory input tends to lead to overstimulation.

LOVED musicals, stage plays, the opera, & ballet, but I lost the ability to hear music & dialog almost thirty years ago.

There is nothing quit like seeing a live performance on stage. A lot of musicals have not translated well on film.

I still play the show tunes in my head & sing along...I do spare the World all attempts at opera.

I'm not sure, I've seen a couple and I enjoyed them but it's just not something I've ever really gotten into.
