QUESTION MARCH 23rd.

In this digital age, do you still like to read the old fashioned newspaper?

Not Really.
The content has diminished so much from what it once was due to digital availability it is hardly worth picking it up.

But give me any sort of newsprint publication that has a crossword!!

I prefer newspapers. It's nice to know the person reporting is at least literate. AND crossword puzzles & comics are part of the deal.

Yep.

I wouldn't bother if my Housemate didn't insist on getting one whenever we go shopping though.

I'm surfin the internet and read all my news there, watch it on TV etc.

When I do find a newspaper ( in a waiting room or when I visit someone) I like to read it.

Not really. It's just more recycle to deal with. Besides, the local newspaper around here is just rewritten stories from the wire services, tons of advertising, and the political opinions of the ownership dressed up as news. I don't need any of that.

I will occasionally read the homeless newspaper that's produced around here. It's written and distributed by folks who are, or have been, homeless. And all the money goes to helping them out. Plus it's a perspective on local events that you definitely won't find anywhere else.

I used to read the Metro, but I don't think that exists in our area anymore.  It was nice because a) it was free, b) there was a box I could get one at from my main bus stop, and c) if that box was empty my second stop had a physical person handing them out...

Unfortunately the free papers died off a few years ago, they were nice for the commute but I generally avoid the newspapers these days because far too many do this...

This.  So much this.  Especially the Edmonton Sun, who's editors will spew rather potent vitriol as "editorials"  and try to hide a personal opinion as "mainstream opinions" or whatnot, and they're more than willing to ignore facts and reality itself if it doesn't suit their own agenda.

Biggest reason though is most of their stuff is from aggregate sources that I've probably already heard from if it's relevant enough, and on top of it all we won't mention the prices.  Coffee at Starbucks (or Tom Horton's) is cheaper most days..

I was never one for reading a newspaper.  I have had subscriptions to USA Today on and off over the years read only the articles that caught my eye.   Now I cruise headlines on my phone and the read articles of interest.

I stopped reading the newspaper except for recipes on Wednesday ages ago, then most of that went away.  Then it shrank several times in content and physical size. I remember up to my late 20s at least, we had to cut down the paper to fit the bird cage.  By the time we rehomed the last bird 4 years ago, we had to overlap two unfolded sheets to cover the bottom.  It got even smaller with less content and more ads when dad finally gave up.  Billing inaccuracies didn't help. He misses the crossword enough to occasionally pick up the Sunday at the store, but that doesn't always have the funnies or the coupons included.

He doesn't do computer games other than solitaire.

We still have a local, family-owned paper. I don't like to read it, it's required reading. Sinclair has taken over all the local tv news channels, so the local paper is the only place to find solid local news. Unfortunately, the quality of the writing has decreased dramatically but the owners have been good about removing the worst offenders. I don't know what they teach in English class (let alone journo school) but the lack of basic grammar is stunning.

Doubt the paper will last much longer, they've been struggling for years. If they had managed to push out the family patriarch a few years earlier it would've been a better situation. He basically lost his mind to the conspiracy cult and was using the front page as a pulpit against perceived enemies, to the point of editing AP stories (often without mentioning it) to inject conspiracies. Thankfully the kid finally was able to take the reins but it may be too late at this point.

Beyond the necessity, I do enjoy the daily ritual of reading the paper and discussing the day's (local) news with my SO.

I do. I read the county paper, the city of Airdrie one and the various farming ones we get. I love newspapers, especially when I'm spray painting.

QUESTION MARCH 23rd.

No. As others have said it's mostly articles copied from the wire services, which I read online days or weeks before the paper publishes them.  I stopped buying the Sunday paper when they stopped including coupons.  Their business practices are terrible.  I tried off and on to have it delivered but they couldn't get anyone to work in my neighborhood, so I canceled and then spent most of the following year answering collection calls and telling them to shove off.  And during the early days of the shutdown they called every day, sometimes twice a day trying to get me to re-sub, and nearly drove DH crazy while trying to WFH.

We do have a small local paper which comes out once a month and is free, and I pick that up because it actually covers my neighborhood. Right now the March issue is lining the cat box, however.
