DAILY QUESTION THREAD ( GTKY) MARCH 2023 by GLITTERWOLF

For something more affordable I might go for a Mouseguard drawing by David Petersen. There are occasions when he opens up commissions.

QUESTION March 27th.

What piece of art would you like to own?

Imagine that you can afford it and that's it allowed/available to you, so anything goes.

There are a multitude of paintings & objects of art that I admire, but none that I would chose to own.

To have a treasure hanging in my basement abode with no one but me to see it would be a crime.

One of the principal reasons I give away my creations is to spare them the fate of going forever unseen.

Currently, I'd like some of the models painted by Julia Moshura. Seeing the way she paints patterns is very relaxing, and her work turns out almost photorealistic. Honestly, she doesn't get enough attention for the work she does.

These are awesome!

Is this real? I mean someone really paints like that?

Wow!

And to answer my own question:

An original Frazetta or Vallejo would be awesome.

Something like these:

Koenigsegg CCX or CCR is my pick, although I'd probably want something with a bit more headroom, hmmmm...

Oh, you mean like wall art?  My "mod friendly" answer is redacted.  Additional mod friendly answer that's geeky behind the..oh right, you can't spoiler on mobile.

Naked...... Chipset wafers.  Y'know those Intel and AMD ones?  Yeah, I'd want a few from different generations.

What, were you expecting something else?  I said geeky answer AND mod friendly!

Yep, that's her actual work. She tends to use tempera paints, and all those patterns are freehand. If you're looking to be relaxed, watch this video from her: https://youtu.be/1jWOK5TJEBs

I was thinking along those lines. Like a genuine Larry Elmore fantasy work. An original, not a print.

Well, I’d clearly like the original Silver Warrior painting by Frazetta!

Past that, I’d love a sculpture by Giacometti or Rodin, a table by Nakashima or a rocker by Maloof.

A cubist original or a Degas ballerina?

Also, I’ve long had a fondness for the lowbrow paintings of Camille Rose Garcia. That, or a nice Edward Gorey would be wonderful in a drawing room!

At the vet's office, there is a very nice sketch of (presumably his) German Shepherd. It's been there for quite a while, so the dog is probably deceased now. But I'd love to have a beautiful oil painting of Lilly, and one of Milo, too. Maybe together, like my own little Peaceable Kingdom.

There's also this famous painting that tends to be in every LDS chapel of Jesus in a red cloak and white robe holding a baby lamb. I eat lamb, and my friends love to tease me every time we walk by this painting. I've always wanted a version with Jesus holding a fluffy puppy. I think a golden lab or retriever would contrast nicely with the red cloak.

There's lots of good answers out here today.

I'd probably want Frank Miller and Lynn Varney's cover to The Dark Knight Returns #1 (silhouette of a mid-air Batman in front of a lightning bolt).  Or maybe something from Alex Ross (that isn't Joker and Harley).

My favorite painting is Van Gogh's Wheatfield with Crows, but I already have a big poster, magnet, mouse pad, and tee shirt, (feel like I'm forgetting something too), HappyUnicorn.jpg.dd5ae87190062fb06824d19166a97e68.jpgand wouldn't want to hide it from people.

Now a favorite that's in a private collection is Dali's Happy Unicorn. Couldn't afford the poster-sized jigsaw puzzle when at the Dali museum in Paris.  Have a print now, but wouldn't mind having the real thing.  Then I could loan it to a museum and people could see it.

We did the star trek/b5/other random Fandoms cards back in the 90s.  Have some autograph cards, a 'skymotion ' holographic card of the DS9 wormhole from the 30th anniversary set, along with most of the regular chase cards and full base set.  Looking into unloading everything but the autograph cards. Bay of e or see if Noble Knight will take them along with all the games I don't feel like listing on the bay.

We have 16 tons of collectibles, antiques, and objects d'art, ranging from 1910s pressed glass and 70s Avon, to fantasy art prints, to beanie babies and Gen 1 my little ponies.  Trying to downsize has been going slowly.

Had Anne McCaffrey autograph the worn copy of Dragonflight mom started reading to me at bedtime in primary school.  Think i was 12 at the event. Anne was kinda a broccoli head and nearly made me cry.  Still consider the book a treasure.

I was never a collector, I was a reader. I had some lucrative stuff, but I tended to get rid of it for more stuff to read. I was lucky enough to be reading a lot of popular stuff on subscription just as the market went nuts, that funded my move to Los Angeles to pursue music. Stuff from the entire Byrne run of FF to McFarlane's entire run on Spidey, with a fat meaty center of Wolverine. Market got so crazy I made bank off them, but I did spend a hondo at a little sports card place that did comics on the side...the owner('s kid, vanity business) had an large unused set of 1st ed AD&D rulebooks. All the originals DMG/PHB/MM/D&DG/FF and most of the later stuff (MM2, OA, etc). Maybe all, I don't recall. Priced at below sticker price, iirc it was $8/book with DMG being $10. Near mint (I think he wrote his name inside the cover).

Nowadays I have a few rare minis. Direct stuff from small artist batches to the resin 'beta' from KDM's first KS (all of the mobs and some armors, in resin, as well as a complete 1st edition of the game (I have 2 full versions at 1.6 currently because of that). But a few of my favorites are the old McVey resins, both some narrative/character stuff and some Sedition Wars resin (super limited ed) as well as some unreleased SW resins (incl some of Kev White's cool spacemans).
