WEEKEND QUESTION March24th /26th.

If you could choose any job, what would you like to do?

(imagine you do possess the required skills for it)

I'm not sure that I don't possess the ability to learn any skill that I would need to do something different.  I think I would need to possess a better physical control of my body to perform work outside my abilities.  I think I would like to have pursued a career in aviation as an alternative to engineering and construction management.

QUESTION March 27th.

What piece of art would you like to own?

Imagine that you can afford it and that's it allowed/available to you, so anything goes.

A series of Ansel Adams originals.

Perhaps a  piece by Clyde Caldwell, Larry Elmore, Jeff Easley, Keith Parkinson or Daniel R Horne.

A Sunday on La Grande Jatte by Georges Pierre Seurat.  I was fascinated by it when the camera work during Ferris Bueller's Day Off pulled in tighter and tighter on the painting to see the details in the the color.

QUESTION March 28th.

Do you or did you own a rare comic/trading card/collectible item?

What is/was it?

I probably own some cards that are semi-rare, simply by virtue of still owning some of the card games I used to play that have been out of print for ages...  But for a lot of them, I just didn't bother or know about things like card protectors, and most importantly I bought the games... To play them!

Probably the two rarest books I have would be history of the Egyptian gods if I remember correctly - I'll have to look and see what the actual titles of them are, but they're chock full of information which is why I picked them up in the first place!

I don't really pursue rare or oddball things, I like my practical things.

Oh yeah, by accident I wound up buying two copies of a limited run of DJ Mutant's "Amsterdam Waar Lecht Dat Dan" (apologies if I misspelled that, don't have record in front of me) because I wasn't paying attention.  Yeah, bought the first one, and then a month later found it while crate digging and went "this is awesome, I need to get my hands on it!"  I also have some white label vinyl, with my favourite being from Robot Death Squad (Supercharger is the main track)...

I got into Magic just to late to get the really rare stuff.  But was super bummed to find out that Revised dual lands are now going for $6-700 US now.  I sold all of mine when I got out of Magic and they were going for $25....

I have the One with Everything box set of INWO cards, that is apparently rare and still in demand.  I could likely trade it for a dual land.....

For minis, I've got some rarer stuff, like the Oathsworn dragon, that was only in a KS and the molds are gone now. Nothing in super high demand that I'm aware of.

And I have the 2 "cheaper" of the 4 limited editions put out for Star Wars Legion. (Obiwan and Vader are the two going for stupid prices, since they were only available at Star Wars Celebrations).

Beta Black Lotus

Original sets of MTG, Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends, The Dark...

These will most likely be thinned to pay for my son's college.

I have some valuable comic books as well, but no where near the value of those cards!

I started out with Magic The Gathering when it first came out.

Sold some Shivan Dragons and a Demonic Tutor years later for a good price.

Some original Battletech "Unseen" minis. Also several handguns used in WW1.

Didn't get too much into comics and cards, I was a poor college student trying to eat and pay for books.  I do have a few of the very first issues of Elfquest around here someplace, as well as a couple other much less well-known comics from the 80's.  Might be worth more than what I paid for them.  I have a friend whose father passed and left her a basement full of stuff, some of which was maybe worth a few dollars an issue, but she couldn't find anyone who wanted it, and sold the lot for very little.

Many years ago I played the Dragonball Z CCG. I own the level 5 Vegeta personality card from the Cell Saga series (starter decks came with level 1-3). How rare is it? No idea. I opened a lot of booster packs until finding it though. I also own level 4, so he can level up all I want. Or wanted, haven't played that in almost 20 years.

For baseball fans, I once owned a Steve Avery baseball card from his rookie year with the Atlanta Braves. I have no idea what happened to it, though I suspect it "found" its way into one of my brothers' collection.

Probably, but I’d need to actually dig through the comic holdings.  I was more a reader than collector at first, so condition really varies.  I mentioned previously a copy of Fantastic Four Annual #3 with a Jack Kirby autograph.  ‘Close but no cigar’ goes to werewolf by night #32 (first appearance of Moon Knight) which was read to death, and now is missing most of the cover…. I have scattered late 60s early 70s stuff like SubMariner and Silver Surfer, and big runs of the highly collectible John Byrne X-men, Frank Miller Daredevil, etc…. The ones I actually miss are the old Famous Monsters of Filmland, although I doubt they’d be worth much.  I keep meaning to get my old collection appraised and sold, but they seem to be just fine sitting where they are.  I doubt any individual comic is worth more than $500, but I’ll bet there are a bunch of $50 issues in there.  I also have a few old baseball cards, but I’m pretty sure it’s the same deal - nice, but nothing in the thousands.

I used to have a copy of GT Joe #1, but I very stupidly traded it away for something as a kid. I seriously regret that now.

I do still have copies of all the comics adaptions of the Star Wars movies, though. There's some other stuff, but I'm drawing a blank right now.

Not sure if it counts as collectible, but it's rare... Due to a certain, um, "financial dispute", I have all six fragments of the Kneecap of Vecna...

Actually, yes. When I worked for a large thrift chain, we got a donation of Magic: the Gathering cards. I bagged and priced them, and when nobody bought them after 48 hours, I got them all for myself. When I was going through them I noticed there was only one card in a plastic sleeve, so I brought it to one of my friends who is a Magic judge. After verifying its authenticity and grading it, apparently it's a mint Revised edition Tropical Island (a true dual land that gives you mana of either blue or green without any tax like doing damage to you or coming in tapped) that's worth well over $500 CAD. Still one of my best finds.

I've had a number of them from time to time.  Most have probably succumbed to the ravages of time and poor upkeep, though.

I bought heavily into MtG when it burst onto the scene. I had a number of Unlimited, Arabian Nights, and Antiquities. A Mox Emerald, two Time Walks, a handful of dual lands, Diamond Valley, Elephant Graveyard, Mishra's Workshop, etc.  I sold those off to fund my D&D Minis habit.

I was fortunate enough to meet Ron Spencer at a tournament and have a couple cards autographed by him (Order of the Ebon Hand and Tundra Wolves, IIRC).

I have a nearly complete run of the Babylon 5 CCG with several autographed cards.

I still have some comics, in unknown condition. I was an X-fanboy for a decade or so and pushed as far back as I reasonably could with the Uncanny X-Men. I think I had most everything from about 150 through the mid-200s, through about 1995. I collected the 2099 Spider-Man and Doom. I have a few others, too.

I own a Mercury dime, which isn't really that rare.

I had one of the Delaware quarter misprints where the reverse side of the coin is upside down. But I didn't realize it was a collector thing at the time, so it gotmixed in with my regular coins (it was very early in the release), and I just figured I'd get another in a couple days. Oops.
