Question March 30th.

Do you have a special memory of a vacation/holiday?

Yep! Many of them.  It would take pages to list them and why they are special.

But mainly it was spending and creating all of those special memories with my family and friends.

Yes, I do. In addition to many family Christmases, I'd say that my first Reapercon was really cool. I enjoyed it enough that I've been to every one since.

Not really.  I don't do much of the holiday thing, although I did love my two weeks in New Zealand (no I didn't go to tourist trap from LOTR, they weren't event filming yet, no I won't go to that, I visit a country for what it already has, not the tourist traps).  Fond memories of Cape Rianga (not how it's spelt, I know) with horizontal rain, and an inability to see the coast, or the bottom of the rocks....

Quite a few. But the first thing that comes to mind was a rainy, cold day in Olympic National Park. My wife and I, both working in swamps and streams for a living, have no problems going hiking on wet days. And apparently we were the only ones in the park that felt that way when we were there because every trail we hiked was completely empty expect for us. And we hiked a lot of lovely mountain trails that day, around twenty miles of them. Not living anywhere near the Pacific Northwest, 90% of the plants we were seeing were completely new to us. Most of the time we couldn't even identify them down to the genus level. So every twist and turn was like bio-nerd Christmas with something new to see and no one around to bother us while we were geeking out over it. And that's kind of like my perfect day ever, alone in nature with just my wife and a bunch of neat plants and animals. Then we went to a hot spring and had a soak in some 100F + pools and drank several beers while a bunch of low hanging clouds cruised right above us mixing in with the steam from the springs. Then we went back to our cabin on the beach and fell asleep on each other while listening to the ocean. Very special memories right there.

Many memories. One in particular is from when I visited Paris. I got a but lost making my way up montmartre, so arrived at sacre cour late in the afternoon.  But I seemed to still have time, so I paid a few euros and started the very long climb to the top of the dome.  You go for quite awhile up narrow stairs in the main body of the church, then out in the open across the roof in an osha nightmare-bit of decorative carving being the closest thing to safety rails between you and a multi story drop, and it only comes up to your ankle. Then up the stairs in the dome, and finally a great view.  An older Spanish couple and I were the only ones there as we headed down from the dome back to the roof, to discover we'd been locked in.  A metal gate we hadn't noticed before was closed, trapping us on the open rooftop.  We couldn't communicate very well with each other, but there was definitely a growing sense of panic. I had half resigned myself to sleeping in the dome.  No cell phones, this was 2003. We yelled, tried prying the gate, went to another part of the roof to find it was also locked...luckily someone either heard us or just double checked the roof because a friar showed up and let us out.

Pic, a staircase on the roof up to one of the non osha approved walkways.

I don’t think OSHA has jurisdiction in France. (?) France is bound to have something similar but with a longer acronym.

Pretty much any memory I can dredge up from a holiday or a vacation is: special, different, out-of-the-ordinary, happier than the normal everyday slog… kinda by definition.

It was quite a while back... but at one point on one vacation I was sitting in a chair, sipping rum and smoking a cigar while watching the faint glow in the sky from an active, nearby volcano.  I figured there was only one thing that could make life much better than that, so I asked the woman sitting on my lap if she'd marry me.

Several.

One of the top ones is fishing with Pa Strawhat for halibut in Alaska.  Pa Strawhat isn't really one for being on the water, or fish, so going out with him was something special.

QUESTION MARCH 31th.

If you could start a Band, what would be the name and what kind of music would you play?

Any ideas about clothes/image/album covers and titles?

Imagine you can play...

To answer my own question about vacation memories.

My girl and me having dinner in a great restaurant at Tenerife at the beach, we could see the Sun set.

It was awesome.

Also awesome:  You people who participate in these threads.

I'm always a bit surprised when you react in such numbers,

Sometimes I post a question which make me doubt if it's a good one, but then after the first few answers I feel better about it.

Thank you all.

@Thoramel will be the next quisitor, treat him well!

One band-ish name I thought of was ec=ic the 2nd.  Stands for exploding cabbage equals instant coleslaw, a monster encounter mom came up with that I have reused more than once. Hence I am the second of that line.  My players love the cabbage land mines, one character has been trying to figure out how to cultivate and weaponize them for years, to no avail. We'd probably play Celtic music, a little like Gaelic Storm, maybe some filkier stuff thrown in.

On the other hand, I came up with critters for a game that are basically the Grateful Dead teddy bears who spread mutation causing plague because I misread something from the ads in the trash as "weapons grade teddy bears."  Or WGTB. Sounds like a rock band and has built in merchandising potential.

Amûn and the Hoteps

…would be ^ the name and I have no idea what sorts of music that would involve. But the band would always walk on stage like Ægyptians, alá The Bangles.

Ægyptian anything and everything.

That’s difficult.
Maybe I’d be the backup bass player.
