Question March 7th.

Would you describe yourself as Extravert/introvert or somewhere in between?

Are you comfortable with it?

On a scale of 1 (very extroverted) to 10 (very introverted), I'm an 11.

OK, maybe not--probably a strong 8.  But it sure feels like an 11 some days.  I'm mostly good with it, although it makes some things (like meeting people with whom to game) difficult.  I can deal with large crowds in certain circumstances (concerts, sporting events, etc. where there's a pretty set time limit) or when I'm with a couple friends who can serve as buffers.

As I've gotten older, my introversion has become more pronounced and that isn't the way I'd prefer things to be.

I'm an introvert and a bit of a misanthrope.  And I'm good with that.

QUESTION March 8th.

Lots of like some Me-time, what is your place to go / things to do when you feel like that?

My home is my sanctum sanctorum, my Batcave, my Fortress of Solitude. This is where I can shut the world out for awhile, though I do try to remember to go out and experience life once in awhile.

It all depends. It's been mostly reading lately.

It varies.  A nice long drive with the windows down and the tunes cranked (not so good this time of year), going to the beach (again, not so much this time of year), getting lost in a book, assembling some  figs, or binge watching something.

Yesterday was assemble some figs.

My "me time" typically takes the form of hobbying or going hiking. In the case of the former I've got a little corner of my attic set up with all my hobby stuff, a stereo, and a beer fridge. It's also a screen free zone so nothing can intrude on my relaxation time. And if it's the latter I've got access to quite a few private preserves and restoration projects within an hour of my house, so I can just drive to one of those and find a nice mucky swamp or stream to go poke around in where I know absolutely no one will be bothering me.

Erin Hartwel dubbed me an extreme extroverted introvert.  I have no issue being the center of attention or putting myself forward, but is is mentally exhausting and I need alone time afterward.  That is usually why I disappear after teaching classes at ReaperCon for an hour or so...I'm in my room taking a nap.  I do a lot of public speaking and am very good at engaging a crowd.  One thing I hate is being in crowds.   I get very claustrophobic in crowds of people I don't know.  Thoughts of things like the state fair, Disney World, etc... make me break out in a cold sweat.  Weirdly, I don't get the same reaction from Ren Fest or ReaperCon unless they get really crowded, then I have to get out.  I think that is because they are my people as opposed to just people.

I have noticed that I have had a marked upturn in my introversion and tolerate people much less these days, needing more time alone than I used to.  I don't know if it's because I am getting older and more jaded about people or that the introvert in me REALLY liked the Covid isolation and wants more.  Maybe a bit of both.

Man-Land (as dubbed by my wife), essentially my sculpting/jewelry/painting/printing studio in the basement.  I love my studio.  🥰

If I REALLY need a break, then I need to get into nature, usually in my kayak on a quiet lake or river.  That doesn't happen this time of year, so I just hunker down in Man-land and look forward to May.

Playfully I'll say the living room, and if I'm feeling a little different the bedroom makes a nice place to read too! 😛

I don't really have any particular set places I like to go to these days, namely because half of them have closed over the years (or been redeveloped), but also because I don't go out anywhere near as much as I used to.  Too many places have huge crowds when I go on days off, and it isn't as fun to just randomly wander somewhere when you know it's going to take an hour to get there.

I have an office/hobby room where I retreat then, playing PC games or painting is my way to go.

Usually a walk with Brutus helps a lot as well.

Home. That's what a home should be. I remember when I was a kid, when my parents thought grounding me to my room was a punishment. Please don't send me to be alone with my C64, guitars, stereo, books, plexi d&d table/minis, etc! Oh no! I've made my house the same kind of loving sanctuary. I've lived in plenty of places that weren't. These days I'm most likely to play guitar/bass or a video game when my batteries need a recharge.

Introvert/extrovert: I've always been a slight ambivert. Introverted by nature, as my batteries are charged by my introversion and drained by extroversion. But I learned to seem extroverted due to the nature of my first career, hard to be an introverted musician in the 80s. Glad for that experience, most people think I'm crazy extroverted (because I can be...for a while).
