battleMountainminis
Is it just me or has anyone elses figures come with tons of deep mold lines and flash lately? The last 3 reaper figures I have bought have had really deep mold lines and alot of flash The flash are easily enough taken care of but the mold lines are driving me nuts... I had to file/scrape my new Melisande Wavecutter (DHL 2859) for over 40 min. and I'm still not happy with the results...It seems like the mold wasn't conjoined correctly and wasn't centered there's a definite mismatch...grumble.. I'm wondering if the machines got damaged in the move or something..Especially since this is a newer release I thought it would be better... I've always bought Reaper because of the sculpts and quality of casts but this is getting me frustrated... Anyone have any suggestions how to save time and get rid of these deep lines without ruining the sculpt? thanks
battleMountainminis
Normally I do, However these were figs. I had special ordered and was committed... Frustration..It's a cool fig though
Gus Landt
Honestly (and sadly) I put most Reaper figures back on the rack after carefully examining them. Most of them I see have way too much flash and big mold line problems. At my FLGS, I examine at least 4-5 copies of any mini I'm considering buying to find the best one. At GenCon this year, I started looking at other companies minis, and found that some of the new companies have much less problems with this... Moderator Froggy the Great Posted September 24, 2004 Moderator Share Posted September 24, 2004 [email protected]. It never hurts to ask, unless maybe if you're Bryan.
Qwyksilver
Not to mention, if it is a really bad miniature, it would also not hurt to ask for a replacement miniature, also at [email protected]. Particularly if your order was directly from the Reaper Store. I don't know how likely it would be to get a replacement, but it never hurts to ask. I think in one of the threads a couple months back, someone mentioned similar problems, but I could just be caffeine deprived and driven insane by yet another tractor trailer rollover (2nd in 2 days) turning my 1.5 hour commute into a 2.5 hour one. EDIT: Okay, I looked over the past 180 days, and couldn't find the thread I thought I remembered seeing. I'm not going to go back to 365 days because well, I'm just lazy :) Oh yeah, and I've only been here since early Spring. ENDEDIT I've never had anything but high praise for their customer service. I think I have been lucky lately. There has been more flash I have noticed, especially under the base, but this is easy to remedy. Most of the mold lines I have gotten were within creases of a cape, or somewhere that can be easily hidden/reduced with minimal effort. That's probably because their miniature runs are smaller. The more you run a mold the more you wear it out. I've seen minis that come off the first few runs of a mold and they are quite nice as far as flash. Eventually thought molds do start to wear out. I usually have better luck with my Reaper minis than with GW in the mold flash department. I've only ever had a couple Reapers minis that I couldn't get cleaned up. Qwyksilver
Gee, now why didn't I think to look at the store policies... <slaps forehead> DOH! Need more caffeine...
awong
Has anyone had problems with pitted metal? I just bought a fig that looked fine in the blister, but when I opened it, the back of the dress was pretty nasty...nothing that I couldn't fix with some putty and time. This is an older fig (date on the broccoli is 01) but I'm not sure if that has any bearing on the finish quality of the casting. Thanks AWhang
battleMountainminis
WOW Thanks guys..Especially Tommy for the research Unfortunetly, I got them from my NSF-LGS..so I'm stuck and since I have already put over an hour now in filing I'm not going to send it back (I primed it to see what else would sneek up_UGH, I missed a bunch ) Awong: I haven't had much trouble with pitting.I don't think, unless I'm too ignorant about what they're susposed to look like I was hoping someone could maybe let me know some other techniques to get this stuff off w/o damage to the sculpt..I've tried an Exacto knife, sanding twigs and files..Just hoping for maybe a quicker method short of blowtorch...TNT or other radical methods I'll not be ordering from my LGS any more but straight from Reaper so their refund/return policy applys Again thanks
Gabe
I've been having mixed results with reaper figures... some of them have barely any mold lines, and others seem really miscast. Though I know it is hard to avoid it, I really hate when a figure has a mold line across their face, or over their hair
battleMountainminis
Didn't mean to open a can of worms... Just wanted to figure out a good way to deal with it I wrote to Reaper and they're sending a replacement..GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! even though I didn't get it from them directly Still looking for advice on getting rid of this stuff in the future Thanks all Betsy
thrush65
I've been wondering about this. It seams like I spend a lot more time in mini cleanup and prep than I used to. It's likely a combo of my being more aware of problems, increased detail in the figures and casting mold problems. Reaper has been great in replacing figures with defects like misalignment in mold halves (only two out of many). As Betsy found they back their product whether bought from Reaper or your LGS. GOOD POINT>>> Something to think about. In this case sadly it was the cast but Reaper came thru with flying colors I can't wait to get her! I haven't given up on the one I have..Now, I just have to figure out my colors and file file file...
Enchantra
I have only had oen problem with a Reapermini and it was immediately taken care of by The Reaper Peeps. The wrong mini had apparently ended up in the blister. Easy to fix. Otherwise I haven't had to much of an issue with huge mold lines. Now and then I find one but it's nothing I haven't been able to handle. I prefer to buy either directly from REaper or carefully examine the ones on the pegs at my FLGS. I know if I do this there are no problems.
Kheprera
I've had some problems with mold lines on some minis, alignment on others, and some have been just fine. The ones that have been really bad have been replaced by Reaper, no questions asked, within one or two days of emailing them. It doesn't matter if I purchased the mini through Reaper or through my FNSLGS. They also don't ask for the old one back, which is nice to save on shipping. It was this kind of service that has cemented me as a ReaperFanGirl. But I do wish there wasn't quite so much in the mold line department on the newer minis. Since cleaning and prepping minis is something I can do easily, even at work, and doesn't take much setup time, I've been doing this for the past year on and off. I have yet to finish a mini to my satisfaction due to mold lines being on delicate places such as faces, hands, or ears.
