Flash Frustration!

I have yet to finish a mini to my satisfaction due to mold lines being on delicate places such as faces, hands, or ears.

This is definitely a good point to consider. I kinda assume that they (i.e. all mini companies) build their molds in such a way that the lines fall on easy to reach locations, but if they don't, maybe they should spend some time looking into a way to do it?

You know... I haven't noticed an increase in mold lines or anything... but then again, I've always considered clean-up and prep a part of the hobby... wash-file-sand-cut-wash-drill-pin-glue-wash-prime-paint-base.

Some do take a little more time then others, but unless the figure's got a huge mold line accross the face, I'm usually not too bothered by it.

Isn't it all part of the hobby?

There is an article on my web site update about using rotary tools for removal of mold lines and general mini prep/clean-up for anyone interested.

Rotary tool

Which supplier do you use for the polishing pins?

They look like they should be very useful for a lot of applications where the rubber polishing points are just too big.

The polishing pins I use are from Rio Grande Jewellers Supply. Unfortunately they have online ordering but they do not have an online catalog. If you want to order some of the polishing pins I have a catalog so PM me and I'll send you the order info.

i am glad to know this company has such a good customer service policy, as my not-so-flgs doesnt have the shelves of minis accessible-theyre all behind employees only counters. they put one model of all minis in a display case with the product number on it, and you have to find the one you want, write down the number, and take it to them. whatever they pull off the shelves is what you get, and even better (worse), you really dont get a good look at it before you buy it, as the attendant will show it to you to make sure it is the right one, but not actually hand it to you to examine, and then said attendant will take it up to the cashier. sometimes you might get a sec to look at it, and if it shows major flaws MAYBE they will get another one for you (i have been told both yes and no to this-depends who is working).

this is a relief, as the one legend of the five rings mini i bought is so miscast that his cheeckbone sticks out farther than his ear-its about a 1 1/2 millimeters off. ugh. such a nice mini too.

THANX REAPER!

I Wanted to thank Reaper for replacing my figure!

SHe came very quickly and it looks as though she's already been prepped she's barley got any lines at all!

Reapers customer service is FANTASTIC! ::D: UPSTANDING :B): AWESOME ::D: simply the BEST! Can't wait to thank them personally later this month! ::D:

Suggestion to MourningCloud:

STOP going to the gaming store  ...Scour around your area for another reaper dealer or order online from Reaper directly..

Get in with a few of your gaming/painting pals and split the S/H...

I boycotted my NSFLGS and noticed when I drove by the other day they had closed..

imagine that..

everyone else must have gotten sick of it too, I couldn't have been their only customer

THANKS AGAIN REAPER ::D:

Ewww Morningcloud, please tell me there is a better store near you. That sounds like a horrible experience. Have they had a lot of trouble with shoplifting, or are they just paranoid about it happening? It seems very unfriendly to even let you handle the piece before purchasing. Granted Reaper has wonderful Customer Service, but you shouldn't have to keep your fingers crossed and depend on it for EVERY purchase you make.

It makes me think of the Soup Nazi episode on Seinfeld...

You: Ummm hi I'd like #14095, Goblin Sergeant.

unFLGS: Warlord Goblin Sergeant. Here.

You: Thank you.

*You start to look over figure in blister*

*The unFLGS starts eyeing you suspiciously*

You: Excuse me, I would like to see another figure please, this one has a very bad mold line and it looks like in shipping his knife broke off.

unFLGS: What? Gimme that *snatches figure* No lead for you six month. Next!

*another unfortunate customer shuffles into place*

I'll never understand people that act like theyre doing you a favor by letting you wander around in their store.....

THEY WORK IN A GAME STORE FOR PETE'S SAKE!

*sigh*

I dont have something against people who are bitter at work, but at least have the common sense to go work in an office job at some corporation and make 6 figures doing it.

We thought about that Seinfeld when talking with other gamers about a local gamestore last week. I hope he changes his ways or goes out of business. Until then he's the "GameStore Nazi". Thanks for the laugh.

Don't these people realize you can go elsewhere.

ive never been one to be afraid to name names. the store i speak of is pegasus hobbies in claremont-one of the larger gaming stores in the los angeles area. they are a two story, huge rc car, model, gaming, evrything you could imagine superhobby store. bigger than any hobby people ive seen. some of you might even have seen their prepainted minis they produced, they were really quite good, and fairly decently painted. either bob olley or bobby jackson even sculpted at least one of them that i know of (a dwarf), maybe more. they also just happen to be one of the two stores where i can get reapers near me-it is about 15 minutes from where i work (the other is like 25 minutes form myhouse). and they are the ONLY place that carries vallejo model color.

youd think a large, lucrative business (they have their own brands of stuff, like adhesives and even a few models!) like this would be a little user friendlier, but thats just not the case. i guess theyve had a few bad experiences with shoplifting in the past. but thankfully the kind people at reaper are goint to replace the mini i bouoght with irreperable alignment issues. thanx to everyone for the suggestions.

They recently produced an injection-molded model of a WWII experimental super-heavy tank called the Maus, which has gotten rave reviews in the business. Must be some hobby store if they can invest in plastic injection molding tools!
