Ral Partha/Iron Wind Metals eastern wizard

And the last mini of the evening, this one is an eastern wizard, sculpted by Dennis Mize.  Mize was a very big fan of Harryhausen movies and stop motion animation, and this was his version of one of their wizards from one of those great old Sinbad movie.  I don't remember when these figures were sculpted but this, along with some other from the same genre were some of the last miniatures Mize did for Ral Partha/Iron Wind Metals.  As always, colors were hard to choose.  The one thing I knew I wanted was for him to have that kind of cool dyed  orangish beard that I've seen before in some Middle Eastern older gentlemen.  Anyhoos, here he is:

 

 

The hardest thing to do on this gent was his eyes because they are so deeply set. I'm still not exactly sure what they look like.

Really nice!  The saffron pants are pretty eye catching, but the shading on that dark cloak is really nice, too!  I love the palette you’ve chosen and, as usual, the execution is top notch!

Thanks! I honestly had no idea where my colors were going to end up other than the orange beard!

I haven't seen the movie in many years, always loved it as a kid.  Thanks for this image and the trivia! If I ever paint this one again, I might have to follow the actual inspiration colors a bit more closely!

We used to love when they'd circulate back on TV with a Creature Feature or some afternoon show. Now you can watch them any old time and frankly they are still great!

You got me inspired enough to start looking through other Mize sculpts, and I found one that I just recently acquired (Raksha Bladedancer).  She'd make a nice accompaniment to this guy!

Mize had created a very impressive body of work before he died. With this wizard he had also done a few other Harryhausen-esque figures around the same time, some sailors, a slaver and captive princess and young thief. All great figures with the same theme!

 

edit-thought I’d add a few of those related minis. I didn’t paint the Corsairs but the other ones are me

 

I really like that Corsair on the right, looks like Sinbad from the movies!

I love those pants - and how the blue shirt is vivid enough but not competing with the pants - spot on with they dyed beard effect too - splendid overall
