Zombicide: White Death (CMON)

CMON has launched a new KS campaign for another iteration in the Zombicide franchise. This one, like Zombicide: Black Plague, is set in a medieval fantasy setting, so it'll go well with D&D. Unlike Black Plage, it's winter themed, and also based on more eastern mythology and history.

I think perhaps the most interesting thing about this set is that you get a good set of city guards, and then a horde of zombies in the same city guard armor! :D

There are of course several other monsters and heroes that are very interesting, including minis for several different types of beastfolk that'll work well for tabaxi, werebear, etc.

I'm in for $1 so I get access to the pledge manager later.

Oh yeah, and there's a set of extra heroes with designs based on the members of the metal band Lacuna Coil. I like some of their songs, but I don't really care about that specifically. They look like they might be some nice minis to have, though. :P

I only recently got into Zombicide, and I have to say that the quality of the figures in the 2nd ed. box were a little less than desirable... The mold lines and mold shifts were pretty bad, small bits were unidentifiable and I easily could have spent more time cleaning than painting.  Can anyone speak to the quality of the stuff coming out of the Kickstarters?

I don't have the 2nd edition, but do have the Old West one. Very good for boardgaming plastic, but seeing minor mold lines in the models. Are you looking at them for playing or painting?

I'm a boardgamer, but still prefer Archon over CMON. Harder plastic, and it's unassembled, so I can do some painting before full assembly. Mold lines were easier to deal with, but I've only been painting the larger terrain pieces. Their upcoming Deuslair sculpts are completely different than Z:WD, so I'll probably pick up both! 💸

Pic has Elven Woods tree and stone terrain I've painted (will also be available in the upcoming Archon KS), along with a Battle Systems cottage (from the retail Village Set), Mantic trees (don't particularly recommend them), RBJ Games dog-faced kobold miniature (available on website), Terra Tiles (contact Ravenkeep about the pre-order), and Fantasy Series I from Blacklist Games (less said the better, but their Lasting Tales mini game is good for casuals and available on DriveThruRPG as a PDF).

I will say I'm kind of surprised by the shift of everything but the guards to an Asian theme from the Slavic theme they had in previews.  The Abominations don't seem particularly Undead themed either.

Some of the characters are interesting, but shipping is like... 60% of the cost of the main boxed set to Canada.  They're using in country fulfilment, but it's $65 USD on a $110 USD box to ship.  That's an expensive pill to swallow.... o_O

Not a big fan of fantasycide, so I was very happy to see this setting for this campaign. The Marvel one cost me a bunch of dough (before shipping ye gods), and I'm about good on zombicide boxes in the closet, so I was done before the announced it was Marvel. Maybe if they do a Star Wars themed campaign, otherwise I'm good with zombicide.

Not sure what game IP would get me buying again, I'm pretty good on KDM stuff at this point, too. And the last Massive Darkness was so huge with the crossoverability, I'm probably fine with that now. We'll see where I stand with Cthulhu DMD, but I feel like if they get the episodic stuff right I could maybe swing one more season.

Not IP, but here's the wishlist. 😄

Zombicde: Dave Jone's Locker: Some backers wanted a pirate theme, and the KS could have crossover cards from Rum and Bones. The R&B art style is cartoony and sexualized compared to WD, so I'd guess the art direction would be different.

Zombicide: Highschool of the Undead: IP clash of supernatural teen dramas, anime waifus, and teenage slasher movies (go ask Dad). Plenty of anime examples of high schools, including zombies. Plenty of American movies with monsters for abominations. Overpriced teen drama KSE expansion packs. 😛

Burrows and Badgers: Interest in the furries -- er, anthros 😄 Monolith is licensing Privateer Press' MonsterPocalypse, and CMON has licensed miniature likenesses before. Oathmark has enough miniatures for CMON do release a less expensive plastic version. Not sure of too many other anthro miniature games that would be miniature-heavy. (Root has an RPG spin-off.)

Slasher films are having a board gaming moment with Final Girl, so the kids are getting some exposure. The solo board game reddit loves that series, even I'm tempted to try it out.

Ironically, Kingdom Death has done quite well with their high school 'Death High' series.

One of the reasons fantasycide doesn't hit for me is the itemization. I guess I just like guns more than xbows at the end of the day, and spells don't do much for me at all. In fact, I realize that they could likely pull me in with a new Invader campaign, especially if they went toward more complexity and itemization. Unfortunately, they're heading in the opposite direction, streamlining and stripping down. I felt the game was already simplistic enough and I already tend to add in a few more wrinkles (like objectives for certain gear or faux crafting or whatever strikes my fancy when I'm playing, hoping to put together a time travel homebrew for it at some point.

Speaking of, that would be an easy way to phone in a campaign. Just build a crossover ruleset the way TSR did back in the day with Gamma World and Boot Hill. They could make bank on modular packs of era-themed minis. I hope they never do this 😄

Should get an all-in towards the end of the campaign.

CMON wall pack announced, but it's missing ladders, cauldrons, stairs, etc. Other alternatives I've seen also lack cauldrons, but have the other items. Reaper has cauldrons as part of mini sets, but you're going to want multiples.

Anyway, posted on Dakka some alternatives to the CMON walls pack, from Battle Systems, Archon, and a fan who made 3D prints. Scroll to the bottom!
