It's a pretty nice weekend here. High 60s, light breeze, a few high clouds. Damn near perfect actually. I got up early and hung out outside a brewery for National Homebrew day and brewed a batch of free beer with some friends. Well, the wort was free, I had to add the hops, yeast and labor. But close to free anyways. Then I did a few hours of yardwork and errand running. And then got my old stove loaded into my van so I can drive it over to a friend tomorrow who's stove just died on him. That was all outdoor stuff. It's supposed to storm all day tomorrow, so enjoying it while I can. Now that that's all handled I'm going to sit on my front porch drinking beer and hollering at neighbors. Good times.

Question, Sunday May 7th.

Race day!  This will be the first day of racing at my local(ish) motorsports track.  It's also the Miami GP for F1, and probably a few thousand other races around the globe. Do you watch or participate in any sort of competitive activity? (be it racing, traditional sports, untraditional sport, speed painting competitions, beer pong, etc)

Nope, just not a sporty person.

I watch Hockey, and every so often I enter painting competitions.

I'm not a hugely competitive person but I do like Speed Paint contests.   I would totally go out on the track if I could support it (finances to blow, a nice car, insurance, etc) but I don't think the husband would be happy about it.  Today I would love to be out splashing around at the lake just for fun.  Unfortunately it's godawful hot for May (we hit 95 yesterday) and there's gardening to be done.  After I recover from that I'll try some hobby painting in our nice cool basement.

Paintball is the only thing I've done competitively in the last 20 years and it's been 5 or 6 years since the last time. I occasionally watch some CFL, hockey, basketball or gymnastics but don't regularly follow anything. Having me as a fan is the kiss of death for any team I root for. So to give my favourites a chance at winning I don't watch much. Seriously it seems like 90% of the games I watch the team I favour loses.

I watch some competitive sports, mostly basketball and football, but I've cut way back over time.  I bowl in leagues, and I've been to the national championships a few times, that's a blast!  But bowling is a pretty 'gentlemanly' sport - you're generally encouraging the person in the lane next to you.  Other than that, most of my personal sporting stuff as an adult has been non-competitive forms of climbing/mountaineering.

I did check the streaming app for its sports channel(s) and sure enough there was some football (soccer).  Two women’s teams. One of them from Houston. Houston, TX or Houston, MO I could not tell you.

One of the teams almost scored!  But the goalie in bright yellow stopped it.

Then my brain went: Meh! and I shut it off.

The first week of May can be unpredictable. My mother always says it's called May because "it may rain, it may be cold, it may be sunny" etc. This Saturday turned out to be pretty warm, almost 80 degrees F (~26.6 C). A bit of rain came in overnight and cloudy through the morning, but the sun is shining now.

I don't partake in physical competition anymore, my body isn't as reliable as it was ten years ago. Once upon a time I could do rowing, cycling, kickboxing and judo. I've somehow let age and injures stack up, more the latter than the former. I still enjoy watching kickboxing and judo/grappling, though it is harder to find on television than other sports. Often times I think I'd enjoy living in Europe more due to better accessibility of what I enjoy.

I don't really get into watching speed painting. Yes, it is impressive to see a mini get done quick, but I prefer a well-painted/planned mini than one that was done just to get finished quickly.

I'm away this weekend and taking an extra day, so here's questions to cover the time.

Question, Friday May 5th.

Today is National No Pants day. Do you plan to take part?

I wore shorts that day, does that count?

This weekend, the rains came back & it's rain most of the weekend. It didn't matter as most of my activities were inside anyways. Watched the Miami GP today, ran my Witchlight D&D 5e game yesterday.

I watch sports, not as much as I use to but I still enjoy it.

Question, Monday May 8th.

Hobby check in time.  We're a week into May.  If you have hobby plans for May, how are they going?  If you don't, have you gotten any ad hoc hobbying in? (In general I'm referring to the hobbies normally discussed on these forum, so relating to miniatures.  But feel free to also include any other hobbies you may partake in.)

Plans for this month are to start my ReaperCon games minis & to try & work on a couple of entries as well. Since, I'm on vacation this week, I'm definitely going to do something. Hopefully using Speedpaints, I'll get every thing done in time.

7th: I don't really watch any sports on TV, though I don't watch much TV to begin with. But I do love going to sporting events. My favorite is baseball and we used to attend a few MLB games every year. But the owners of my favorite team are doing everything they can to ruin the experience so we haven't been to one in a while. Thankfully we have a minor league baseball stadium in town to go to. We also have the Columbus Bluejackets (hockey) and the Crew (major league soccer) a few minutes away to go to whenever I feel like watching some live sports. We also have one of the biggest NCAA colleges nearby (Ohio State University) with decent football, baseball, basketball and hockey teams we can watch as well. As for competing in sports, I don't really do any sporting these days outside of the occasional friendly game of darts. I used to enjoy a little pick up basketball or a softball game. But I'm getting stiffer and slightly pudgier as I age so don't really do those anymore.

8th: I'm taking a hiatus from running games right now while one of my players has a new kid. We decided as a group to shelve our current games until they get through the first six months or so of child rearing. So I'm not painting anything right now with a plan to use it. I am still painting though. It's just a lot more random stuff than normal. I've managed to finish three minis this month and have another four well under way. So pretty decent I suppose. Also, I was on a break from brewing while we worked on the kitchen. But now that we are moving forward pretty well on that I'm brewing again. Made five gallons of a pale ale this weekend and have plans for a nut brown ale to be brewed before the end of the month. We also decided to start a new hobby this year with the purchase of a couple of kayaks. Right now we are planning on spending all of Memorial Day weekend getting used to those.

(… beer pong, etc)

There is a wikihow page that explains beer pong. I am depressed by this. Some sources claim frat boys from Dartmouth college were initially responsible for beer pong.

Not big into making grand plans. The second quarterly contest thing did not inspire. I wanted to paint that Owlbear but failed.

I do keep trying to perfect my air fryer cheeseburgers. If you can call that a hobby.

If we label this Hobby: “ try-to-survive-your-own-cooking “ it is going poorly.

Last Thursday I was wondering if I was going to die. Lost ten pounds in a day. Lived through it. No idea what caused it.

I did not make a cheeseburger on Thursday.

I don't have any specific plans other than just spending some time hobbying.

So far, I have managed to get some painting in.
