In general, are you a white/light colour primer person, and black/dark colour primer person, or a grey/mid colour primer person? I prefer darker colors so I can use that as shadow and/or tell when I've gotten coverage. Mostly I use Reaper's liners (blue, brown, grey, red, green) but I also have the regular brush-on primer as well. I'd like to try zenithal priming sometime. I can use all the help finding highlights I can get and it could help keep me from putting quite so many layers on my minis.

Brown or Blue when I use liner on Bones.
ejala
I started my hobby painting career with the artist supplies I had for college classes, so all those iron wind metal dragons were primed with gesso. Seemed to work. Occasionally added a touch of red ink to see where i had primed on the original bones minis. Stopped painting for a decade, gesso turned into cottage cheese. Did some bones with straight liquidex titanium white. Got and let go to cheese another batch of white gesso. Then found clear gesso. It doesn't clump up. But you really can't see it. So now I use a mix of clear gesso and titanium white acrylic on everything, so most stuff comes out whitish with a hint of original color peaking through. So my grey bones are still grey, just paler. But the paint sticks better after that.
haldir
May - 22 Normally I like using a light grey, but since I've started using Speed/Contrast style paints more, I've opted more for plain white. I do like using colored primers sometimes, but nothing that is really dark. I like the lighter shades as it doesn't cover up details, primer normally shows, hence the reason why I like using light grey. Afterwards, I may or may not throw a dark wash on the figure to bring out details. I've never used Reaper liner as a primer.

I use black primer on my bases though, it seems to form more of a skin to hold the sand and stuff in place. 10
Jasper_the_2nd
Question. Tuesday May 23rd. How are you at ignoring that shiny new thing that just arrived and instead focus on work (or what have you) until a more appropriate time to "play" with the new shiny?

There's a time and a place for everything.

I make a point to ensure that any 'chores' I have get done first, either when I get home from work, or after breakfast if it's a weekend. After that stuff is done, I can goof off however I wish.

Since I don't work from home I don't see them until I get home from work. Once Home It quickly open and inspect my new shiny. Depending on the shiny's purpose it will determine how quickly I do any thing with it.

I'm pretty terrible at the whole "focus on work" think if there is a new shiny, even if I'm at the office. Unless work is exceptionally busy I'll find my thoughts drifting to the new shiny.

I'm usually good at delayed gratification, though I often open the box to make sure everything is as it should be (in case claims or returns have to be made). IE: I'll check that I received everything from the KS, and then let it languish in the basement for years.

IE: I'll check that I received everything from the KS, and then let it languish in the basement for years. That's a given for me, but doesn't affect the whole "new shiny" part. For example I've already asked the store if they know when Galactus is coming in, even though all I did with the core box of Marvel Zombies! was open it and look at the figs for a second. And we don't talk about all my boxes of Bones in the basement..... 7
ejala
I can wait ages to open packages. I've even forgotten Amazon packages for months, or at least not looked closely at whatever is inside for that long.

Pretty good at making sure one project is done before tearing into another. But it took me decades to reach this point.

I'll give it a quick once over, make sure nothing's broke or missing, then set it aside until I've got the less fun stuff done.
