Question, Thursday May 25th.

Today's question is brought to you by my right shoulder, and by the letter F.  As I get older pain seems to be more of a constant and less of a "once in a while".  So, how are you feeling these days, pain-wise?  If you take things to help, are they doing their job? (as always, feel free to share as little or as much as you are comfortable with).

Pain and I are old friends. I am grateful for it. I could have been killed or paralyzed when I broke my back, but God was merciful. I will deal with it.

I have an arthritic back.  They've finally stopped sending me to physical therapy as that never helped in the Five or so times I was sent. Usually just made things worse. Prescription anti inflammatory helps keep things from being too terrible most of the time, barring overexertion. Doc changed my script from 75mg twice a day to 50mg three times a day last visit without telling me first.  This is kinda working to wean me down to a lower dose, as I'm bad at remembering middle of the day pills.  If it's not actively hurting, I'll forget to take the second dose.  This is probably good.  But there are also days that dose is totally necessary.

Some of them want to be taken with food.

Yeah, I’m pretty much in the same boat as Chaoswolf (do wolves like water?)…. Bad back and shoulder, but after decades of dealing with it, I’m in a good place.  I’ve learned to lift weights deliberately and regularly, avoid pushing past trigger points and generally trying to stay active.  I switched from ibuprofen to naproxen 5 - 10 years ago, and I find it works a lot better for me, although I reserve it for very limited occasions.  I have reams of exercises that have come from PT over the years, so I try to refresh whenever things seem to be trending downwards.  I wish I knew this stuff when I was 30, it would have saved a lot of heartache and trouble…

Lots of different little hurts and pains here. Some of it depends on the time of year and what I'm doing. It's field season right now. Which involves a lot of high stepping through woods and wetlands. So my major complaints are my knees and one of my feet that had a botched surgery on it years ago. During the winter it's mostly my hands. I have hand hyper mobility, which basically means my fingers bend in odd ways (this unfortunately doesn't help with painting minis). This will eventually lead to some pretty bad arthritis. When it gets really cold out my finger joints swell up and get painful. And occasionally a finger will lock up and I'll be unable to bend it for a while. I figure I've got a bit over a decade left on my original knees and maybe twenty or so before the hands become a serious issue. Although these things suck (especially the knees these days) I don't take pain relievers, unless you count the occasional beer. I figure someday the pain will be so great that I'll need them to function. But for now I'm happy to just keep plodding through life, trying not to think about it too much. Also, I'm concerned about building up a tolerance to pain meds. And if that happens too early, then I can see a long road ahead where that stuff just doesn't work.

Arthritis tends to find new and inventive places with me nowadays. I take painkillers only if they're needed to limp through the rest of the day, but otherwise I keep working.

I deal with some knee and back pain.  That's been the story since I was a teenager.  It's not usually bad enough to require medication unless I've been active (shoveling, mowing, etc.) and the off-the-shelf stuff will do just fine in those cases.  I expect I'd have a lot less pain if I could stay on my diet and drop a hundred pounds or so.

My gut is a magic eight ball. You feed it, shake it up, and see what you get. Tonight's question: "Will this deliciously spicy curry cripple me tomorrow?" Roll 1d20 and consult the following table:

● It is certain.
● It is decidedly so.
● Without a doubt.
● Yes definitely.
● You may rely on it.

● As I see it, yes.
● Most likely.
● Outlook good.
● Yes.
● Signs point to yes.

● Reply hazy, try again.
● Ask again later.
● Better not tell you now.
● Cannot predict now.
● Concentrate and ask again.

● Don't count on it.
● My reply is no.
● My sources say no.
● Outlook not so good.
● Very doubtful.

It all depends on what I did yesterday, and what I'm doing today...  But also especially if I have my work boots on properly...

Today is a decent amount of pain, probably because it's first day back in three and a half weeks, but it's a good pain.  Just hope it won't be this way through next week as I regain stamina and whatnot...

Pretty rotten. Nagging long-lasting injuries keep causing me troubles. I missed four weeks of work due to a back injury, coming back from that, this is my second week back. My back hurts during the shift, but thankfully doesn't hurt upon waking. My shoulder bothers me every time I move a transmission. My finger joints do feel better, so that's a plus. I'm on muscle relaxers and prescription anti-inflammatories, plus physical therapy. Will likely be on a revolving door of treatment for those as long as I am working, which is a few more decades.

It could be worse for my last year before turning 40. Trying to be positive that the next decade will be better than the last one.

That is a spectacular Magic 8 Ball table. Did you write it?

Question, Friday May 26th.

In your area, what is considered a long drive vs and short or average drive?  And do you measure the length of a drive in kilometers/miles, or in time?

Question, Saturday May 27th.

I'm at the race track running race control for the first motorcycle race round this weekend.  What are your views on motorcycles in general?  Are you a rider?

Question, Sunday May 28th.

Today is the Monaco F1 Grand Prix and the Indy 500. Have you ever been to Monaco or Indy? Would you like to travel to either (for the race or any other time)?

For me I consider drives in Time.  How long will it take me to get there.  Having work Heavy Highway Construction for almost 30 years and logging anywhere from 3 to 5 times the national average of miles in a year, a short drive for me is an hour or less.  Long drives exceed 4 hours.  I have no problem take a long drive where in a get in the car drive until I am out of gas, tank up, take a bio break and get back on the road.

I'm not sure; I'm still relatively new here ( in Texas ). I'm used to most things I commonly do being no more than a half hour drive. That is definitely NOT the case here.

I usually measure a drive in time. Distance doesn't generally come into play unless it's long enough that I need to think about gas refills/rest breaks/lodging.

Long drive is anything from 2 hours and up. This because traffic in the Netherlands is very busy and we often have traffic jams.

Motorcycles are nice, I was a rider for a few years then chose the more comfy car.

Never been there, not interested in it.
