(as always, feel free to share as little or as much as you are comfortable with). Hands and feet are painless "once in a while". I just don't focus on that. Do not take anything. 42 minutes ago, Jasper_the_2nd said: Question, Friday May 26th. In your area, what is considered a long drive vs and short or average drive? And do you measure the length of a drive in kilometers/miles, or in time? Long drive: Somewhat over an hour. Short drive: an hour or less. From my response: obviously time. 45 minutes ago, Jasper_the_2nd said: Question, Saturday May 27th. I'm at the race track running race control for the first motorcycle race round this weekend. What are your views on motorcycles in general? Are you a rider? Motorcycles are fine if they are not running. Starting a Motorcycle should be considered a crime. I am a rider of cycles, bicycles. I don't even like electric bikes.

And do you measure the length of a drive in kilometers/miles, or in time? I'm on the prairies. A long drive is 7+ hours, average is 3-4 and short is under an hour. I measure distance in both miles and kilometers but drives are usually measured in time. The good part about being on the northern prairies is that the roads are mostly empty. I can cover a lot of distance for the same amount of time as compared to in a city.

The dealer room is a fifth the size for the number of people in the room. You could not buy anything. The Fire Marshal should have shut it down. TGP
1 hour ago, Jasper_the_2nd said: Question, Friday May 26th. In your area, what is considered a long drive vs and short or average drive? Over 40-60 miles = long. (A one hour drive.) Never met anyone that bothered to differentiate short versus average. 1 hour ago, Jasper_the_2nd said: And do you measure the length of a drive in kilometers/miles, or in time? Time first, Miles second, only a few military guys will estimate distances in “klicks” (kilometers). And they are usually crafting sentences like, “that tornado was about three klicks from my house”. No civilians thinking in kilometers** “round these here parts”. I will wait on the other two questions until those days arrive. Would you like to travel to either (for the race or any other time)? May 25 Pain - just under 50, still in the "Once in a while" group except that my back hurts when I wake up in the morning. It goes away in the first hour. In the last few years i have been fighting with off and on leg, knee or foot pain, but all from pushing to far on runs. Currently not back to 5k yet, and nothing is hurting. May 26 Short drive is less than 30 min, average drive is 30 min an long drive is measured in days. in between there is "A bit of a drive" like to the far side of my metro area, or a front range mountain for hiking or camping - I guess that's (informally) measured in distance. May 27 - my views on motorcycles are that they are deadly and loud. Crashes are inevitable, and the rider has virtually no protection. I don't consider any advantages they have worth the pain and hospital bills. I have a cousin who races, even touring around the country, its been four years since she came to my state and we went to watch (my only time) and three years since she got out of the hospital after a bad crash. - She is still in intermittent pain, and still rides. In daily life they are just an irritating loud noise that quickly departs. May 28 - Travel for racing or Monaco - not really. It seems more expensive to visit than I woul like and carries that aura of "Playground of rich and famous" which I'm not interested in. Indianapolis - isn't gencon held here? I might go to gencon again some day. Edited May 26 by Evilhalfling

I'm at the race track running race control for the first motorcycle race round this weekend. What are your views on motorcycles in general? Are you a rider? Ah, motorcycles. I have a love/hate relationship with them. The hate part is that a lot of people drive them in the manner in which they are named "donor-cycles". I don't like driving around them because I'm always worried I will lose track of it and merge into the side of it. And then there are the guys who are clearly compensating for something when they rev their motorcycles in the intersection. But the love is certainly more than the hate. My dad built me a little 50cc motorcycle when I was a kid. I think I was 7 or 8 when I got it. It had a big tuk-tuk seat on it, so my sister could ride, too. I rode probably hundreds of kilometers on that just around the farmyard. I loved that motorcycle. I rode it until I was like Dumb and Dumber and my knees were up around my ears. Around that time we got the yellow quad, so I rode that my teenage years, with my dog on the back. I always thought I would get a dirt bike and drive it to school or town, but my parents gave that a firm no. My dad had a Gold Wing, and he loved that bike. But he realized how little most drivers pay attention to bikers. He got driven off the road near home once, and after that, my dreams of becoming a motorcycle mama were dashed. I wasn't allowed to get a road bike, and I never have. I wish I would've pestered dad into letting me race motorcycles as a kid.

I was dissuaded from riding by my father, a physician that saw numerous motorcycle accidents that lost to the guy in the car. I have done my best to give them more room on the highway.

And do you measure the length of a drive in kilometers/miles, or in time? I generally consider a "long" drive to be anything clocking in over an hour. I start getting a little grouchy at about an hour and a half when I haven't even left the city. That doesn't happen often, but it did a couple times when I picked up Eldest from her job (which was on the other end of town from the house at the time). Short to medium is about 20 minutes or so, which is the standard time most people give for getting from one end of town to the other. 3 hours ago, Jasper_the_2nd said: Question, Saturday May 27th. I'm at the race track running race control for the first motorcycle race round this weekend. What are your views on motorcycles in general? Are you a rider? I have problems with a particular style of rider. I get real fed up with the ones lane splitting/white lining, riding in packs deliberately blocking intersections while the rest of the pack rides through, popping wheelies and performing tricks on the road, etc. It was worse before we moved out of our old area town, there was a pack who would come out speeding and blocking traffic on nice weekends. They eventually spread their operation throughout the rest of the city until the "bear in the air" finally got them. I haven't heard about them in a year or two. I hope they all had to sell their bikes and declare bankruptcy to pay their fines. Endlessly rude and reckless. But the average rider who's just trying to get from A to B? No problems. 3 hours ago, Jasper_the_2nd said: Question, Sunday May 28th. Today is the Monaco F1 Grand Prix and the Indy 500. Have you ever been to Monaco or Indy? A 2 hour drive here is normal, since it's the nearest big city. It's a 4 hour drive to the next biggest one, so that's a bit of a longer drive. And do you measure the length of a drive in kilometers/miles, or in time? I live in the largest province in Canada by area. It's larger than Texas and just a tad smaller than Alaska, so my point of view is a bit extreme. And since the roads alternate between inner city traffic, to country roads, to highways, I prefer to measure my driving in overall travel time. I've regularly driven 10 hours on roads with only a dozen towns altogether. All within the same province, shortest path. But for my current local area, anything under 30 minutes is considered a short local drive. After that, you need an hour or two is the average between larger urban centers. 11 hours ago, Jasper_the_2nd said: Question, Saturday May 27th. Not since I was 18 and tried to kill myself on a Yamaha 750. Figured if I wasn't smart enough to do ride safely I better stay on 4 wheels. Question, Sunday May 28th. It takes 15 mins to drive to Payette, ID a town we frequent allot more then I thought I would these days (Chinese food, Goodwill store, etc). It's 6 hrs to Portland from here, thou it turns out to be around 10 the way we drive up there. 15 hours ago, Jasper_the_2nd said: Question, Saturday May 27th. While I've never have learned to drive a motorcycle, at one time I almost decided to get one. While the race action can be kinda boring thou, it's the setting that sets it apart. Love watching the open wheelers hit Indy as well. While I'm not the hardcore racing fan as I once was, I'll try & catch both of these. I've been to Indy, but I was passing through with my grandmother when I was little. We took a cross-country bus ride from Boise to New York City to see my aunt & uncle when I was like 8 years old, it was fun. Would I go to see the 500, eh, I don't know. I've read stories & seen on tv how grand the spectacle of the 500 is (Indy becomes like the 2nd or 3rd largest place in Indiana for a day), but I'm good at home. Monaco on the other hand, I'd love to see that one in person. Looking at Google maps, you kinda get how neat the views would be, but being there is a totally different story.
