Hasn't changed so much as become refined... I mainly paint figures that have character - something I find interesting and/or unique about them. Sometimes it's because they're epically badass-looking, or sexy, or dark, other times it's because they really show a specific personality. I'm still mostly D&D-based fantasy types of PCs and humanoids. Really the only thing that has changed much is the the fact that I've expanded into painting figures in different scales (as well as partial figures like busts and statues) and a variety of materials other than metal.

No. In the pac nw, we have four primary ’natural’ disasters to be ready for: wildfire, earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. We get plenty of warning on the first, and we’re not really in a burn risk zone anyways. Earthquake is probably our biggest risk, and we have enough food water and common sense to survive a while, assuming we can reconvene (communication and travel will be tough). As for volcanoes, we just have to hope it doesn’t happen, or doesn’t hit us here, because a lahar is pretty much doom…. Things would have to be pretty unique to make us abandon the property, as we have multiple structures (shop/greenhouse/shed) and camping supplies, as well as more tools than you can imagine…
ejala
We tend to get some leftover rain from hurricanes, but they've died to rainclouds by the time they hit Ohio. In my lifetime, the tornadoes have all hit at least an hour west or north of us, so not that concerned there. Haven't seen forest fires either, though we do have forests. We live up a high hill, so any flooding has been water main breaks or clogged drains, not nature. Climate change has lessened the amount of snow and number of blizzards. Worst thing that I recall happening was a huge windstorm that took the power out for four days. We probably aren't as prepared as we should be.

I remember watching games shows in the 80s while I was still in grade school/high school. The Price is Right was part of my regular viewing back then. I still have pretty much the same likes and dislikes I've always had. Classic fantasy figures, monsters and war mechs. As for painting styles, I don't think I have a favorite style. Do you now or have you ever lived in areas prone to hurricanes? Where I live up north, we only occasionally get the leftovers from hurricanes. Snowstorms on the other hand... And this year, forest fires are sadly in full swing. 10 hours ago, Inarah said: June 4 Natural disasters are not limited to severe weather. Earthquakes, flooding, and fires also affect us. Are you and your family prepared with an emergency plan and supplies if you need to evacuate or take shelter someplace else? I do have enough to drink and eat for several days if the power cuts out. And I can handle the cold if it happens in winter. With the windows shut, the temperature can remain above freezing for a very long time just with natural sunlight. Otherwise, I'd evacuate to shelters like most everyone else with the contents of a suitcase. I've traveled often enough to know what I need to carry. Bringing a can of instant coffee would be a new thing.

Nope, never lived in a hurricane zone. Yup, we have tornadoes and severe weather here, so definitely have a storm shelter, generator and supplies.

I started painting whatever was in the discount fantasy box at the FLGS, then I painted exclusively GW LotR until about 2017 when I got into Frostgrave. I had some Egyptian figures I'd bought before, and I really wanted to do something with them, so I went heavy into Reaper and other small manufacturers' minis. Now I have lots of unpainted LotR that I'm slowly working through, but the inclination to buy and paint anything from that range hasn't been there for years. Reaper minis are just much funner to paint! 13 hours ago, Inarah said: June is the beginning of Hurricane Season in the Americas. Five tropical storms have already begun forming. Seriously, no, I've never lived outside of Alberta. 10

Our biggest issue is WHERE to evacuate to; we don't know anyone anywhere nearby who would put us up for a few days.

June 3 I'm about as far away from the coast as possible in North America so don't think about hurricanes much. June 4 Where I'm at drought is the most common natural disaster and it's slow enough we don't need a plan to run. We can and have survived for several days without power. The odds of major catastrophe destroying our house or town are very low.

My taste in minis has expanded. But I still collect the same kinds of figures I started with, fantasy PC's. Now I paint all kinds of stuff in a range of sizes and genres. And even some stuff not related to games at all but just for display. I'm not sure my style has changed as much as it has improved over time and with lots of practice. I'm still just coloring in bits, kind of like a 3D coloring book. On 6/3/2023 at 10:51 AM, Inarah said: Weekend double hitter: June 3 June is the beginning of Hurricane Season in the Americas. Are you and your family prepared with an emergency plan and supplies if you need to evacuate or take shelter someplace else? 3rd: No hurricanes in Ohio, Though they do burn themselves out here every once in a while. We're more of a flooding and tornado kind of place. 4th: I've got a bug out bag with some basic gear and I always keep a couple of five gallon containers of water on hand. But mostly I don't worry too much about it. We are five minutes from 3 emergency rooms, one of which is a trauma center. There are several emergency shelters within walking distance. And because any disaster we are likely to face here would be localized, I can always walk, bicycle, or drive out of the area of impact and find shelter with friends and family. One of the benefits of living in a densely populated urban environment is access to emergency services in the event of a crisis.
TGP
On 6/3/2023 at 9:51 AM, Inarah said: June 4 Natural disasters are not limited to severe weather. Indeed not. On 6/3/2023 at 9:51 AM, Inarah said: Earthquakes, flooding, and fires also affect us. And that is the short list. A bit more comprehensive (for North America North of Mexico): Tsunami, Earthquake, Volcano, Wildfire (forest), Flooding, Wildfire (prairie), Tornados, Severe hail, Hurricanes (wind damage or storm surge), Asteroid strike, Solar flares† On 6/3/2023 at 9:51 AM, Inarah said: Are you and your family prepared with an emergency plan and supplies if you need to evacuate or take shelter someplace else? Plan not really. Shelter in place is not much of a plan. Supplies, I have some water stashed. Food in cans + can opener. My younger brother has a farm and a big garden — he has a plan. They can their own produce. (I suspect he is a "prepper" ) (†Bro even worries about X-class Solar flares)

I tend to paint what I can use. mostly. Or at least the games I think I'll get to play. I also tend to go through phases where I want to paint something different than what I've been doing. Since I'm playing Star Wars Legion and Bolt Action, sci-fi and WW2 figs have been pretty much all I've been painting. Should I (hahahahahahaha) get all my Legion painted, and enough Bolt Action that I don't need to play unpainted figs, I'd like to take a good run at painting something besides those to categories for a bit. Are you and your family prepared with an emergency plan and supplies if you need to evacuate or take shelter someplace else? The 3rd. We are in the area prone to hurricanes. Luckily far enough north that we usually don't get anything much worse than a Cat 1. Unfortunately that means when we do get a Cat 2 it causes a LOT of damage since the trees and such aren't really built for that. Changing weather patterns and more severe storms could make things ugly in the near futures. The 4th. We are pretty well prepared for stay at home type events. Lots of supplies and the like, although we no longer have a generator. The recent fires around Halifax really showed how quickly a suburb can get engulfed when it is surrounded by woods. Our subdivision is surrounded by woods..... we should probably get something in place in case we have to get out quick, although at least we do live in a generally wetter and cooler area that Halifax. Earthquakes and very minor and harmless around here. Tornadoes used to be non-existent, but the last few years there have been some little ones on rare occasions. There is annual flooding on the rivers here, some years quite bad, but I don't live near then and am on a big hill, so no worries there.
