Painting goals for June 2023

Recommended Posts

It is June first. This month I am prioritizing painting terrain over miniatures. I hope to get in several games this summer

What are people planning on painting this month?

My goals for June are:

  •  Paint a game token from Marvel United
  •  Paint the third Mithril miniature for the quarter
  •  Paint a figure from the annual box.
  •  Speedpaint 6 more gnolls to replace the gnolls I have been using
  •   Finish painting all the Tablescapes dungeon tiles I started in May

Hobby goals for 2023

Painting one large terrain piece each quarter or several smaller pieces. The goal here is to complete enough, to use in a game or scenario [Check!]

Painting the 17 miniatures in my annual box  [ 9 so far]

Painting  one game token each month [ 6 so far ]

Painting three Mithril miniatures each quarter. This works out to an average of one per month; but this way I can paint them in batches [ 6 so far]

I also have the unusual goal of not buying any miniatures (for myself) in 2023. I have no idea how I will accomplish this ( 164 days since my last miniature purchase)

Carry over from previous months:

-- one last undead wolf

-- Reaper female elf wizard with staff

-- " orrery

-- a shed load of plastic sci-fi terrain

-- the new Owlbear

-- 3d printed eye beast from a friend

-- 3d printed cat necromancer

-- the vampires and hunter from the Ravenhome set  -- probably going to take more than one month to do these

RCL stuff:

-- duo is primed

-- need to paint a figure for the 4+

New:

-- 3d printed sci-fi terrain

Honestly don't know how much, if any will get done.  Been having elbow/wrist nerve problems and painting makes it worse.  Making slow but visible progress on the plastic terrain.  18 of the 36 walls are painted and another 7 are close to being done.

Haven't bought anything since Christmas.  Haven't seen much I'm interested in.  So far this year on KS I backed 2 game PDFs and one set of metal sci-fi figures.

Jumping' June-hosephat!

I think this is the month I finally fix my genestealers.  I've got a Maga, Patriarch, Kelermorph, some Neophytes, and some Aberrants that have been waiting to be worked on for some time. And since I need a little break from Heroquest...

For June, it's going to be a repeat of some of the other goals...

- prep Zaku frame parts, and get them painted

- paint a few more of the exterior/armour pieces of the Zaku

- get some paint on Meirsoa!

- continue work on base for Oleana

- paint some Infinity and Conquest models

- work on both colouring books I have out

- try not to spend food budget on Copic Sketch markers

I need to finish off Andowyn Thrushmore, fortunately there's a deadline...

I'd like to mostly finish off my Lysette chibi and either a Dark Sword, Moonlight Mini or Bombshell figure.  On top of that, I'd like to hit a few of the quarterly challenges, because I don't think I'll have the bandwidth for the monthly submissions.  I may try and recruit Andowyn in for the diorama - she's too cute to be a one and done.

Of course, I need to figure out some way to complete a few of the "color study group" exercises from the MM group, and it would be great if I could devote at least a little time to pushing the lumberjack bust forward.  Maybe I need to call in sick...

Funny, I have been thinking about the way I paint. I paint for fun and display and like to create armies.

But...I have so many projects, I alternate betweem them ( which I like, don't get me wrong). But I feel I'm not really building an army for amy of them. A soldier here, a monster there.

So I was thinking, maybe build a unit, warmachine, big monster etc. For a project before I switch again...

Looks at workdesk, a Conquistadore General, a Conquistadore Officer, an Aztec Warrior, an African Hyena Handler, a Bruja for my Pirates, a Bobokai Necromancer ( apeman) and an African Priestess..

Hmmm, yep, were doing fine here 😋

After months of good intentions, but little actual painting, I've changed my approach.

Instead of having goals of trying to paint X minis each week or month, I've simply maintained a painting streak. To keep the painting streak going, I need to get paint on a model every day. A single brush stroke will do, so the bar is low, but it’s effective.

My current streak is on Day 37. The streak before that was 20-ish days before I went on a family holiday.

Across those streaks I've painted for 80 hours, finishing 10 minis and 32 pieces of scatter terrain.

So my goal for June is simple, keep my streak alive.

At my current rate, that should be around 40 hours of painting, enough to (hopefully) finish 8 minis and 13 pieces of scatter terrain.

My June goal is to whittle away at a huge commission for Ral Partha Legacy:

- Chaos Acolytes Bombards (3 units, 3 pieces each)

- Chaos Acolytes Ballistas (2 units, 4 pieces each)

- Chaos Acolytes unicorn chariot (1 unit, 3 pieces)

- Large griffin (1 unit, 1 piece)

So far I've got everything cleaned, based, and primed.

Not sure if I can finish 4 per my normal goals, have a lot of prep for my upcoming July knee replacement surgery.  At least I did not have to do jury duty, which is was called in for early June.  And this week, I had a nasty cold, completely knocked me out for 2 days.

I did start painting on an Ukrainian defender cat with an RPG, so that has motivated me to sling some paint.

A bit over halfway through June and things are going well. My painting streak hit 50 over the weekend and more minis and terrain are getting painted.

I’ve switched things up a little bit from the plans I had at the start of the month, pivoting from small terrain to minis.

Only 5 pieces of small terrain painted so far, but I’m super happy to have 23 minis painted so far in June. I’m thinking I’ll take a group shot of everything at the end of the month.

I have also found that I am switching things up. As summer conventions get closer I am more focused on group painting figures I need for the games I am running. Painting time is becoming more of a luxury
