Bog Witch's Rune???

Hi.

I'm prepping some minis to (hopefully) soon be painted.

I just noticed that Tianalise, Bog Witch from Bones USA has a rune on the back side of her base.

Anyone know what that is all about?  Just curious.

Looks like the place for an artist signature. The R part works for the sculptor, Bob Ridolfi.  Other half looks like a backwards R. Could be his full name's Robert, could just be how he signs pieces.  Plenty of artists use stylised marks.

I have a Bones 5 version of her.  That version has a completely different base and no rune.

He might not have signed the bones v version, or it's hidden somewhere else on that mini since the base is different.  This is just my best guess.  I have been seeing clearer sculptor's marks on bones USA.

The RR symbol has been Bob's mark for years now.  It would have been cut or stamped into the original green putty the figure was made from, and then the Bones mold made from that.  If a new base is added in the factory, it won't have Bob's mark on it.

Bob use to do his entire last name vs the RR symbol. I just finished a piece that you can clearly see "Ridolfi" in a rock on the back. Awesome sculptor, awesome human being!!

 

BTW, she looks good in BUSA, I may have to pick that one up sometime.

So I guess the USA one has the original base then? That's pretty cool. 

The quality is great. Very crisp details. I like the sturdiness of the material. I think I'm going to paint her next, once I'm done with the current WIP.

It never ceases to amaze me how many great figures there are that I've never seen.  I swear I've gone page-by-painstaking-page through the entire catalog, all the figure lines, but I see new things in the forums all the time.

I'd assume he swapped to a stamp for it...there's a lot of places, more recently, that you can get them made for cheap with smaller ones.

 

I was given one recently by a friend when he learned I've been messing around with leather stuff recently, and he uses a similar one for leather and sculpting and other stuff that will take it.
