How would you explain your job to a 6 year old?

It depends on the six-year-old; they tend to vary widely in their levels of understanding.  But in general, I would probably say that I teach people about government, and I write books about history.  Both halves are oversimplifications, but they are close enough.

6 year old me would be disappointed by this explanation and mildly offended that grown-up you had mistaken me for a three-year old.

I would have been more than mildly offended, but I was kind of advanced, not necessarily in a good way.  I was basically already a cynical 20-something by age six, and I was basically forty by my late teenage years.

Maintenance planner: I help mechanics by telling them which machines need fixing, what needs to be fixed in them, what parts you need to fix them, and in what order you should fix them.

If I still have their interest, I'll expand the information.

How do you unlock your creativity?

Unlocking it isn't the problem; keeping it under control so I don't give myself an unattainable amount of projects is.

In the great, wise words of Eesma...

Smash it with a hammer!

Wait, not quite the correct quote, but seems about right.  So we'll go with wrong lever! Instead! 😛

Usually by buying supplies I don't need for a new project I won't get to for months or years. 😄

I also look at other people's work a lot.

The same way all great artists do... Drugs and hard liquor.

Just kidding. If I want to be creative I just sit down and get creating. Some times that ends with a nice mini or beer or something. Other times it ends with a mess. But I don't let any lack of creative feelings get in my way.

Hey, look I can answer for own questions.....

I think my way is & I've done this all through out my life, but if there is a deadline, they HEY, I BETTER GET GOING!!! It's a crappy way of thinking, but I am what I am.

Also, looking at other works like finished miniatures for ideas or trying to copy artwork for paint schemes & such. (why yes, I just did these this week for RCon. :poke: )

Pretty much this.  Creativity is the problem nearly as much as actually getting motivated to finish something.  I'm very good at starting projects, and I've got years and years worth of ideas.  But getting things across the finish line is often the problem.

For example this is why I have about 14 different types of chipping and streaking and weathering products for vehicles and tanks, but still have yet to get one fully painted, let alone to the weather stages......

By asking "Why?" and "What if..." I also look at a lot of photos and watch a lot of documentaries. When I'm super stressed out, I grab a pad and start writing. It's more like a giant word barf of nasty feelings than any sort of literary genius.
