Count Urlik
Hi all: I'm working on a diorama, and I'd really like to add some decent palm trees. I don't want to start from scratch, and I'm happy to modify with paint. It's just tough to tell from pictures if something is pretty good or if it belongs in the bottom of a goldfish tank! Any advice is appreciated! This is the diorama it's associated with: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/101009-a-little-fishing-diorama/
MojoBob
I bought some very cheap plastic palm trees from China some years ago (via AliExpress). They were horrible garish colours, but with a coat of paint they came up pretty well. I think they were railway scenery pieces, but it was so long ago that I don't recall the exact search terms I used. The tallest one in this picture is 130mm, and it was about the middle of the size range of the packs that I bought. The tanks are 1/100 scale 3d-printed M3 Grants (WWII British).

Count Urlik
No, I was kind of hoping to just find something I could buy. To be fair, I have nothing against buying a 3d print!

There are several 3d files for palm trees, I believe people sell prints on Etsy and sites like that.
Heisler
Check Scenic Express. There are a number of palm tree kits out there that the model railroaders use. 1
Count Urlik
Thanks all! I got a few 3d print options on order from Etsy, hopefully they’ll look alright!
snitchythedog
Don't forget dropped fronds. Real trees growing wild usually have at least some fronds dried up on the ground. 2
Neatpete
I found some cheap palm trees in two sizes at a local party supply store. They need a repaint, but decent start.
Great Khan Artist
I buy mine off ebay. They come from sellers in China. The little peg is a good indication they are for modellers, not fish tanks. Just drill a hole in your terrain, glue and snip the excess plastic from the bottom. They hold quite well that way. I usually just give mine a wash with GW's contrast line. They look okay to me.
