Lately, I've been having a bit of trouble doing the fine detail work on my minis and it's actually been putting me off painting a bit (And I really don't need any more excuses not to paint!).

To help me regain my mojo, I've set everything aside and dug out a "bigature" to work on:-

9YoTp6v.jpg

My large scale Durgin Paint Forge Dwarf (Agrax Earthshade pot for scale).

At this point he's been assembled and mostly undercoated (I'm waiting on a big base to attach his decorative base to before I work on it).

Assembly went pretty well, although I'm not too happy about his shield, I've attached it in the same place as it is on the store piccys and it does fit, but from certain angles it does appear to just be floating there.

Tomorrow I'll start working on his skin and go from there.

Although the main question is, can I paint the whole thing without snapping that bird off?

Nice figure.

It is. Not normally that interested in Dwarfs but this one really grabbed me, I reckon it's the face-shaped shoulderpads.

Progress:-

Fudn6gG.jpg

Painted his skin with Dwarf Flesh (Of course!), then a Flesh Wash, then highlights of Dwarf Flesh and 2:1 Dwarf Flesh/Light Flesh.

He then got fingernails (Iraqi Sand > Sepia Wash) and eyes, annoyingly, even at this scale his eyes were a bit too small for me to tackle but I did my best.

My base arrived as well, so the decorative part is all undercoated and I've glued sand to the flat bit.

Next bit, paint his helmet.

Cool mini!

Lots of detail on that armor!

Yep, going to be fun picking it all out.

Progress:-

zgmRbXn.jpg

Started on his helmet.

The steel bits are 1:1 Pure Black/Gunmetal Grey > Oily Steel > Black Wash > Oily Steel > 2:1 Oily Steel/Chrome.

And I've started on the decoration, it's currently Leather Brown > 1:? Bronze/Polished Gold (The gold kinda splooged out the bottle) > Brown Wash.

You may also notice he's bird-less, gonna reattach that after he's painted, kinda stupid sticking it on there in the first place!

More progress:-

Finished off the helmet decorations with highlights of 1:1 Bronze/Polished Gold and Polished Gold plus a Sepia Wash.

The crest on top is a base of Magic Blue with drybrushes of 1:1 Magic Blue/Off-white and Off-white with a Blue Wash (The gem uses the same colours minus the Wash).

Next up, facial hair.

Beard time!

This was a base of 1:2 Scarlett Red/Orange Fire, given a Brown Wash, highlights of 1:2 Scarlett Red/Orange Fire and 1:2:4 Scarlett Red/Orange Fire/Ochre Yellow and then a final Red Wash.

Got to do all his beard beads now.

This looks great! I have one of these larger Durgin guys as well, this is making me want to pull him out and get started! I like that skin a lot 🙂

Thanks! Don't make my mistake and fully assemble him first.

Finally made a little progress:-

He's gone a bit blurry!

Got his beard decorations done. The long beads are Bronze, the small ones are Hawk Turquoise and the rings are Brassy Brass, they all got a Brown Wash and a touch-up.

I also discovered I had attached his beard ends wrong, but it's not too noticeable.

Not sure if I should tackle his armour or boots next.

Boots done, they were a base of Saddle Brown, followed by a Brown Wash, highlights of Saddle Brown and 1:1 Saddle Brown/Ochre Yellow and finally a Flesh Wash. These had to be touched up a lot because I was forever getting paint from his trousers on them.

Trousers done (Even though you can't see them), they are Steel Grey, with a Black Wash and highlights of Steel Grey and 1:1 Steel Grey/Ghost Grey, followed by a thin glaze of Steel Grey.

And I made a start on his scale-mail skirt, the fabric parts are Magic Blue > Black Wash > Magic Blue, I'll finish this off when I paint his armour which is next.

Progress:-

Made a start on his armour.

So far it's a base of 1:1 Pure Black/Gunmetal Grey, then Oily Steel and a Black Wash.

Try and get the rest done tomorrow.

I also found he has some hair tucked deep in the corners, so that's next after the armour.

Oops! Left him a little large!

The armour got finished with a highlight of Oily Steel, plus some Bronze studs and fixing rings, I also got those bits of hair I found.

Next is chest strap and shoulder pads.

Slow but steady progress:-

WuLKt6p.jpg

Did the chest strap, it's Leather Brown > 1:1 Leather Brown/Iraqi Sand > Brown Wash.

Did the shoulder pads, these are Bronze with a Brown Wash, then drybrushes of Bronze and Polished Gold.

Did his little T-shirt sleeves, you can't actually see them from most angles, so I left them as just Iraqi Sand plus a Sepia Wash.

Then I started on his armoured gloves and axe, so far the steel bits are Oily Steel with a Black Wash.
