Thoramel
Happy September everybody and welcome to the latest edition of the Getting to Know You question thread. Here's the rules if you are inclined to read them: 1. Have fun with these questions! 2. I'll have these up kind of sporadically this month as my schedule is kind of weird for September. 3. Don't feel obligated to answer any of these questions if you don't want to. Now I'm going to go get some work done and will stop back here in a little while to post the first question. Cheers all!

It's really hard to do when you don't own a vehicle, so I don't get to do it anywhere near as often as I'd like!

Seeing new places and history is big for both of us. Now that we are both retired, we go at our own pace. Least favorite thing ? Unprofessional TSA agents.
ejala
Favorite is probably whatever I traveled for, if it was for something good like museums or a con. Least Favorite is traffic. If you haven't been over on discord, my 17-18hour drive to Denton took about 24, mostly from the two major accidents closing I-40W for 2 hours + each of my two days of driving. First day it was Jackson TN, so they eventually routed us off the highway and through back country roads that made Southern Ohio look populous. Then we got back on the freeway. I had been only 30-40m from my hotel. Day two I didn't even get that much. Just stuck stopped on the highway surrounded by semis in the middle of a field in a broccoli end of Arkansas. Had to park the car with the windows open to save gas. It was very warm and sunny. Also, I get lost. Google is full of it, and it isn't understandable directions. I think today was the first day since Tues I haven't gotten turned around lost. In Chicago I kept getting on buses going the wrong direction, so not driving doesn't help. In Venice I spent at least an hour trying and failing to find my way from San Marco pier and the church.

Favorite thing is seeing new sites or visiting family/friends that I haven't seen in far too long. There are several members of the family, and some friends, we haven't seen in years. The least favorite thing is adjusting to new layouts. I don't handle such changes to my routines very well. In fact, I have virtually shut down in the face of such in the past...other times less so. It kind of depends on how far I have to go, how many complications there are, and the general "vibe" of the city. That's why I travel with a GPS. The GPS may not be perfect, but it will get me to where I need to be...eventually. I adjust to smaller cities better than larger ones, but sometimes the city just gives me a vibe that I'm generally "OK" with. I might stress about getting lost in cities I like, but I'm stressed even when I know where I am in cities I don't like.

Honestly, one of my favorite things about traveling is the hotel rooms. Getting in there and flopping down on the bed just really says "You are on a trip" to me. I mean all the food and things to see and do is nice, but crashing on the bed after a long trip? Hard to beat. Least favorite? If driving, the traffic and inevitable road construction. If flying the fact they design plane seats for people 6 inches shorter than me and 6 inches narrower than my shoulders. Last plane I was on (which was a very small commercial jet) I couldn't stand straight even in the aisles without hitting my head.
Thoramel
It's a three day weekend here in the Us, so I'm going to go ahead and post the next few days of questions all at once. Question September 2: Are there any festivals that are local to you that you enjoy going to? If so, describe one for us. Question September 3: What's your favorite thing to do on a lazy Sunday (or any day) when you have no other responsibilities? Question September 4: It's Labor Day here in the US, a day to celebrate the contributions of the workforce to society. What's something you'd like to see celebrated as a national holiday? Bonus: Show us a hobby project you've been working on recently.

Sept.2: If by local you mean things that are a 2 hour drive away, then Mosaic in the Big CityTM is one for me, where many cultures have pavilions with food and drink. I haven't been to one for awhile, I'll have to make plans to do so again. Sept.3: At the moment, I have an eBay auction from a certain seller to try to get more Warhammer figures. Sept.4: Obviously it should be International Flumph Day, to celebrate the nicest guys in the multiverse who tirelessly try to save your butt behind the scenes. Try to work on something to 3D print, also trying to get some painting in: Edited September 2 by Pezler the Polychromatic

It's just a fall harvest festival held in a nearby city. I haven't been in several years and we usually skipped a lot of the goings-on. But when we would go, Mrs Strawhat and I (sometimes with Eldest, Youngest, and grandkids) would go to one of the orchards, get some apple doughnuts, go pick some apples, and maybe do some wine tasting or other apple product shopping (stuff made from the fruit, not computer- related) before calling it a day. On the way back home we might drive by the old family farm. There's not much left of it anymore, just the garage I think. But sometimes it's nice to see. Sleep and hobby are right up there. Maybe watch a movie... or chase Mrs Strawhat around the house... I'll take just about any day that I don't have to go to work.
