It's a three day weekend here in the Us, so I'm going to go ahead and post the next few days of questions all at once.

Question September 2: Are there any festivals that are local to you that you enjoy going to? If so, describe one for us.

Question September 3: What's your favorite thing to do on a lazy Sunday (or any day) when you have no other responsibilities?

Question September 4: It's Labor Day here in the US, a day to celebrate the contributions of the workforce to society. What's something you'd like to see celebrated as a national holiday?

Bonus: Show us a hobby project you've been working on recently.

Sept 2: Where we used to live in Southern Illinois had Superman Days in Metropolis, Illinois every year. Most years will see over 15,000 folks from all over the world come. Lots of fun there.

Sept. 3: After Church, watch a ball game and then grill out.

Sept. 4: A day honoring disabled veterans, they are still paying the price for defending us.

Sep 2:- There's a few cultural festivals in town that are fun to go to. Only problem is, they're always set up in the smallest park so they get super crowded, super quick. Usually the Housemate and I grab a bit of street food (The burritos are great!) and watch a few performances, but after an hour we're surrounded by more humanity than we're comfortable with!

Sep 3:- Have a long walk around the park, feed the ducks and get a cup of tea from the cafe.

Sep 4:- Not sure, I don't think our bank holidays here in the UK celebrate anything.

Bonus:-

This is what's on the table at the moment, I'm hoping to get the middle one finished today.

9/2:  Berea Rib Cookout.  Many National Rib joints selling Ribs.

9/3: Read one of my ~4400 books.

9/4: National Pickleball Month.

9/5: Kites.  Making a Tetra-Delta (my own design)  It is a Tetrahedral Kite made up of four Delta kites joined together at the front tip, right and left tip and at the tip of the keel.

I have two made and two to go. I show how it will go together with a commercial kite and my wife's kite that I made.  I can't use my wife's kite.

2nd:  I dislike crowds, so not really, no.

3rd: read, hobby, or bing watch a series.  Depends on the day which is my favorite.

4th:  The 4th is Labour Day here, where we celebrate the use of 'U' in words!

Bonus:

Printing a Tie Fighter Pilot helmet for a contest.  The STL creator, Galactic Armory, is running a contest for their patreons, for the best custom paint job.

I don't expect to win but I'd like to see if I can at least get it done in the timeframe.

Airplanes.
Didn't like flying in them before 11 September. Now . . . being a passenger in a commercial aircraft, just Nope.

2nd The Renaissance Faire started this weekend, about hour to 90min away from home.  We used to go every year, attending has gotten spottier since mom and covid. I'm still in Denton and don't expect to be home til Thurs,  and then collapse for at least two weeks.  After which it might be cooler out and worth going.  Though I spent all my money at reapercon.

3rd. Sleep. Read. Paint. Sleep.  I'm almost always kinda tired, think it's the anxiety meds.  Alternative is much, much worse.

4th. World peace day.  Predicated on achieving such.

Bonus. 45 min hijinks speed paint.  Didn't quite finish.  Tried to incorporate a little of the texture classes into the cloak.  Thus did not get the base or skin done. (Gnome flesh and bugbear fur being the closest thing to skin tones on the table didn't help the second). But it's  a start.  Need to figure what model she is.

This suspiciously feels like homework....

I don't really do the festival thing.  Almost all of them are out in the summer weather, which means heat, humidity, and mosquitos...  All alongside expensive bottles of water.  Taste of Edmonton used to be something I enjoyed, but now it's stupidly expensive, and held in the dead of summer, which involves previously mentioned heat and humidity (mosquitos optional due to all the concrete)

All Sundays are lazy and enjoyable!  What's this responsibility thing?  I swear this really is homework somehow... 😛 😛 😛

And it's Labour Day here in Canada, where we love our extra u's in words, although in schools you're usually given a pass if you stick to one method of spelling and don't bounce between them.

As for celebrating national holidays, ehhhhhhhh, I can't really think of much.  We've "acquired" more national holidays, but they aren't stats, so, uh, yeah.  Not really a fan of being forced to use my personal days just to get paid because government decides some random Wednesday needs to be off for some occasion but they won't call it an actual proper stat holiday.

"Boring" projects that have gotten a lot of my time didn't have any photos of them, since it's organizing and sorting and various things like that.

She is Alastriel, Elf Wizard, a Werner Klocke sculpt they've been making for a long time, originally in metal, then Bones classic and Bones USA.  I've always liked the dynamic pose on this one.

Thanks! And she's a '23 release, so I'm partway done with that category for rcl too.

Alright, let's get this started...

Question September 1: What your favorite thing about traveling? What's your least favorite thing about it?

To be clear I'm referring to long distance travel, like going on vacation to Reapercon.

Favorite: going new places and seeing new things.

Least Fave: air travel just isn't any fun  any more.

QS2---We like to go to Scarborough Renaissance faire in the spring before it gets too hot. There are probably many more, but it's entirely too hot here (TX) to spend any appreciable amount of time outside in the summer.

QS3---Read or hobby.

QS4---Veteran's day. It's already a holiday, but I'd like it to be more widely recognized as such. Unless you're a government employee, it's just another work day, and it shouldn't be, IMO.

It really depends on the travel.  If I am traveling alone by car, it is the opportunity to drive and play music loudly without hearing complaints.  If I'm flying alone, it is the hours of sitting and reading in the airport and on the plane.  If I'm traveling with family, though, it is getting to see my kids enjoy whatever we are doing.

Of course, my least favorite part is often having my kids along, because they find ways to ruin things...

My city has an annual Christmas festival called Sights and Sounds of Christmas.  I'm not sure I would say I exactly enjoy going there, since I dislike crowds and people in general, but it is a nice thing.

My favorite local festival ever was when I lived in Chicago back when the Taste of Chicago lasted for ten days or so.  That was a truly impressive thing to experience.

I'm not even sure what that would be like any more.  I have four kids ranging in age from 4 to 15, so I always have some responsibilities.  I guess I would read books, play video games, and paint miniatures, though maybe not in that order.  I'd probably visit the hobby store too.

Miniature Painting Day?  Just kidding, mostly.  I suppose if I'm going to add a national holiday, I'd make Election Day a holiday to make it easier for people to vote.  But I can't think of a particular holiday I see the need to add.

My last class at ReaperCon this year was on blending, and I learned a new technique for it that I think will be really useful.  I don't know if I will actually finish this guy, but I'm excited about the possibilities he represents.  (Though it actually kind of hard to see the blending in the pictures, it looks better than any blending I have managed in the past, even though I spent all of maybe 20 minutes doing this.)

And I have Sophie primed and ready to go.  I hope to finish her over the next few weeks.
