Driver.

Presently it would be my friend Dave.  He drives fast and is a;; over the road, even the brim.  He once drove my car from Cincinnati to Cleveland, a time I do in four hours, in two hours.

Showing it was not a fluke he repeated that time driving back.  I was not in the car.

I'd rather drive in general, though it does not bother me to be the passenger.  There is nobody I refuse to ride with, but I am not shy about pointing out if someone is driving dangerously.

Driver, 100%  I'm a terrible passenger.  I occasionally get motion sickness as a passenger and can't really relax as a passenger either, so  no napping or anything. I'm far more comfortable as the driver.

There isn't anyone I know that I'd refuse to be a passenger with currently, although my Mom is on borderline.  She has never been a good driver, and hasn't gotten better as she has gotten older......

Can't drive (Never got the hang of it), so I'm one of life's eternal passengers.

Not usually bothered about who drives, although I did once take a trip with a very bigoted taxi driver, he got himself so worked up that I was worried he was going to have a heart attack at the wheel, would rather not do that again.

Question September 2: Are there any festivals that are local to you that you enjoy going to? If so, describe one for us.

i like 4th of July -  the neighborhood has a bike parade that the kids do, sometimes we go to the pool afterward. 
then there is a bunch of neighbors who gather at the top of a hill about 2 blocks away, and watch the city fireworks.  
if you can see fireworks of 3-8  other cities,  on the horizon.

It feels like the kind of community events  I grew up with.  

September 3rd - things to do on a Sunday/  lazy day -
Workout,  Paint minis,  play videogames, cook breakfast for the family.  
If its a really good Sunday - run D&D, we play once a month and pick a sunday that everyone can make it. 

Bonus: will add picture from phone: TMM class, Monochrome class, Feathers class,  Paint and take bugbear,  Rocky painted in the hall between other events, OSL class.

 

September 4 : Passenger, except driving in Irelands tiny left-side driving roads, I would get carsick unless I was driving. 
If alone I listen to podcasts or audio books,  and don't mind it, but without those my inattentive ADHD  can make any drive longer than 20 min a struggle.   
(depending on levels of sleep. medication, and conversation)

And here I had believed that Big Unions once had enough influence in Congress to get themselves a Holiday. 
 

Hmmmmmm. Grover Cleveland. 1894. Pullman Strike. 53rd Congress. 24th President. 
 

I did not know or remember Grover Cleveland had served as the 22nd and the 24th President..!

Aerospace Day :: Dec 17th,  might be fun. Celebrating the dawn of the aerospace industry in the US. That is the day Orville Wright got airborne. 
 

Kilby Day :: September 12 :: aka Microchip Day, that was the day Electrical Engineer Jack Kilby demonstrated the first IC (chip) to executives at Texas Instruments.  Computers, Calculators, Moonshots, the Internet all of it traces back to the first chip in 1958. Or you could go with Feb 6, 1959 the day the patent for it was filed. 

Both of those events changed the world. Before those two inventions humans were glorified cavemen.

I generally drive for us, but LadyC is an excellent driver and I do enjoy sitting back and relaxing when she takes the wheel.

I refused to let my Late Brother in Law drive, he scared the daylights out of me!

To be clear I'm referring to long distance travel, like going on vacation to Reapercon.

Assuming I'm travelling for fun, the destination is the favorite part, whatever that may be.  The least favorite is the prep...  Planning, packing is not fun, in my mind.   I can deal with lines, waits, driving for days on end...

Festivals: Not much happens regularly in the "Town that fun forgot" as Ottawa is fondly known...  Pre-pandemic there was an annual metal festival in Montreal (2 hours away) that I attended most of the time.  Hasn't been held since 2019 though...  need to find another way to get my fix.  

 

Lazy time: hiding in my basement.  This would include video games, 3d printing and/or hobbying.  

 

Holiday: I think we need a First Responders holiday up here like you guys have in the US.  I think those fine folks deserve way more recognition.  

 

Bonus!  Finished this for my youngest.  Working on a second version with a resin print of Lumalee in clear blue resin, in the hopes of adding lights to it.

This depends greatly on who I'm with and their comfort level while driving.  If the driver is at all nervous, it makes me very uncomfortable.  For long family drives, I tend to do most of the driving because my wife doesn't like driving on 2 lane highways and passing into oncoming traffic.  I'm getting to the point where I dislike driving at night as my eyes are very sensitive to oncoming lights, so my wife may get more time behind the wheel as the years advance...

I  don't care either way.

As far as drivers I don't trust, there currently aren't any.

Some of the taxi drivers in countries I visited while in the Navy would definitely qualify, though.

I prefer to be the driver generally, usually because it's been my vehicle in the past 😛

 

As for people I refuse to ride with, there are a handful, most are dangerous drivers in some form, with speeding and aggressive driving being the two main ones, but a big one for me is lack of (or not caring about) situational awareness.

Thats how I usually and normally roll, if going anyplace by road. But I hope it will comfort some of you to know, that, unlike George, I do not have a buddy named “Weiser”.

I am OK with being the passenger, but rarely is it an option.  
 

(FWIW, There are many vehicles sold to the motoring public that are so cramped I cannot be the driver.)

Seeing new places, eat new food, meet new people are my favorite things.

Sept 2- I'm no longer attenting festivals, there are few in the area anyway.

 

Sept 3- Hobby, Cook, Read, Paint, Walk Brutus, maybe go hiking with my girl.

 

Sept 4 - Boxer Dog day!

With my luck concerning air travel, I love the destination, but hate the journey.

 

The only worthwhile journey I've had in recent memory was a decade ago when I traveled China, Mongolia and Russia by train. We had a lovely traveling group and excellent guide that knew how to fill in the time between stops with local history lessons.

Sept 2: There's the wine festival I went to last year that was pleasant as I got to sample many unfamiliar liquors. Even tried absinthe (not crazy about it). It's how I found last year's maple whisky that I brought to RCon.

 

Sept 3: My lazy days are sitting in front of my laptop and largre screen TV watching Youtube video while gaming.

 

Sept 4: Gaming, specifically RPGS, is not celebrated or appreciated in its full. We need a day for that that goes beyond "Free RPG Day".

 

Bonus: No project at the moment, but RCon does have a knack of being inspiring.

I don't mind being a passenger. But I am related to some aggressive or distracted drivers I'd rather avoid riding long distances with.
