Is it something you can cook on your own, or do you have to wait until someone else makes it for you? My favorite is shrimp pad Thai. I can make it myself but it isn't super filling since it is a lot for noodles. Still love the flavor though 😋. My other favorite is tofu vermicelli. My gf makes it and it is super yummy 😋

I like them the most, which is probably why I’ve made them enough to be reasonably good at it.

I would say our Thanksgiving Dinners at our home because while the food is excellent, the memories of our family together are what make it special.

By which I mean that I generally like any and all home cooked meals. Some particular favorites have already been mentioned by others. I can cook a fair amount of my favorites by myself, and I know how to read and follow recipes.

If it's something I have to make it's a bacon and corn chowder, sometimes with salmon in it.

Her sauce recipe was not, to my knowledge, written down. She learned it from one of the neighborhood mothers when she was a girl. Mrs. Strawhat's sauce is getting pretty good, though it lacks meatballs. Mrs. Strawhat also makes some good gumbo and enchiladas. Ma Strawhat never would have even attempted those. I do everyone a favor and stay out of the kitchen as much as possible, so I am dependent on others for my favorites.
ejala
Mom's cheddar potato soup. I have the recipe, though various substitutions have to be made for cheese availability. The problem is I don't usually have the stamina to peel and boil 5-10lbs of potatoes, and it's hard to scale down. It was usually a joint effort.

Cheddar is almost the only cheese widely available around my timezone. I’m curious what cheeses you use as substitutes. What makes it hard to scale down? I’m genuinely curious. Changing from 10 lbs to 5 lbs of potatoes sounds like cutting the recipe in half to me.
Thoramel
Question September 7: Do you know how to swim? If so do you prefer to go swimming in a pool or in a natural body of water like a lake, stream or ocean?

I dislike murky water. Never have I ever, had any chance of swimming in a Stream. Lakes and Oceans only two chances each but I stuck with wading. Beware the Undertow :: it is real.

Like many, a chicken/turkey dinner is easily a favourite as many family gatherings are associated with it. Sometimes it's ham or a beef roast, but they generally all come with a side of potatoes (mashed or scalloped) and peas. And I like the leftovers. I can and do cook my own when the season comes. And when I'm visiting my mother, I help out with the cooking (I learned a lot from her). 43 minutes ago, Thoramel said: Question September 7: Do you know how to swim? I knew how to swim from an early age, and growing up we had a swimming pool in which I would stay in it until my lips turned blue. Though I'm more used to swimming pools, I also like swimming in natural bodies of water, particularly the ocean, but haven't been in them in ages.

If so do you prefer to go swimming in a pool or in a natural body of water like a lake, stream or ocean? Yep, have known how to swim as far back as I can recall. I grew up on the shores of the Minas Basin, that bit at the end of the Bay of Fundy where it goes around Cape Split. While having the highest tides in the world is great for tourists and the like, it makes going swimming in the ocean a bit of a pain, unless you like walking across half a mile of mudflats to get to the water..... So while we did swim in the basin some, most of our swimming was done in a small lake. Which is my preference for swimming. Pools are ok, but not very fond of the chlorinated ones . The salt water ones aren't too bad.

Inarah
21 hours ago, TGP said: I’ll most likely never have such a meal again in my lifetime, because I can’t cook like they could and nobody else that I know is likely to try. Thanksgiving dinner, contrary to popular belief, is very easy to cook. It can be time consuming, but you can do the basics with your air fryer and microwave. Do the potatoes and turkey (I recommend getting a small breast or "tenderloin", not a whole bird) in the air fryer, you can look up cook times online. Microwave cranberries, water and sugar to make sauce (again, online instructions). Use boxed stuffing, microwave instructions. Gravy from a carton costs about a buck and is decent. Anyone can do this. 3 hours ago, Thoramel said: Question September 7: Do you know how to swim? If so do you prefer to go swimming in a pool or in a natural body of water like a lake, stream or ocean? I prefer natural bodies of water to swimming pools (mostly because of what chlorine does to my hair) but I'll happily jump into any of them if circumstances are safe. I don't swim. I can paddle around and have mostly managed to not drown.
ejala
I'm fat enough to float well. Haven't been swimming in well over 20 years. Might remember.
