Darkstar
Okay, so I got the lights I was waiting on, they're rad. Heres the finished product... I stopped using a wet palette, so my style is a little different than usual, actually, my technique is a little different. I was losing the ability to control my paints by having my wet palette dilute them with random amounts of water...I need more control when diluting paints, so I switched to the ever economical plastic lid. I find that my paints behave much better now, I'm able to control to the nth degree the amount of dilution solution that's going into my paints. Well, blabbing over, l look forward to any comments, critiques etc...thanks
Jester
Ok, I like the shield better now. And I'm glad you weren't afraid to fill it in and paint what you did (in either instance). The dual tones for the rest of the mini work well together, but I'd like to see you add in some darker shadows. Also, wasn't that armor just a PAIN to paint??? Bravo. Now, THIN YOUR PAINT!!! (sorry, I say that to EVERYONE these days it seems... )
FuzzyIzmit
I really like all the browns, gives it a really nice sense of thick, used leather. I like the freehand on the cloak, but the folds might need to be darkened a bit more, because they are getting lost. I would also recommend putting a darker shadow between the sheild and the cloak on the "blue" side, they run together a bit. I dont mean to be nit-picky though, because you really did an excelent job!
Lars Porsenna
Very, very cool paintjob... Damon.
Zordana
Goddamn I love those browns... *holds her head and squeals* Hehe. Lovely. How the heck did you do that base? Are those little fluffy yellow tthingies? It reminds me of a coral reef.
Stern Kestrelmann
I like it DS. Very nice to see you finish that piece. I'm not sure about the base, but the rest I really like. The skin tones are great and the hair and weapons rock! SK
Darkstar
Howdy, OT, just watching the debates right now, is GW drunk? sheesh anyways, thanks all for your insights... @Jester, man that armor was a total pain! Next time, I'm drybrushing it!!!! Ya, I'm never afraid to paint over anything I've already painted in hopes of improving it...it stems from the Buddhist philosophy of Impermanence...nothing lasts forever. The sand paintings that the Tibetan monks make are like that; Intricate, beautiful paintings that they dump into the river when they're done. Quite the humbling lesson to never take oneself or ones work too seriously...do I hear refrains of Dust in the Wind? @Fuzzy...The heavy used leather effect is what I was trying for thanks. The cloak is really flat, ie no shading in the folds, because I couldn't be bothered lol. Too much work to figure out the shades and tones of the colors I used. I'd go stark mad. There is some pretty deep shading in between the shield and the cloak though, but it was lit in a way that makes it look flat. Oh well C'est la photo. Thanks though @Lars, thanks @Zordana, thanks and the base is cork, stones and foliage from Woodland Scenics. It does look like a coral reef! Now to buy and paint the Neptune from Eastern Front Studios and base him like this. @SK, I admit, I don't care for the base either, but I have a ton of this kind of weird crap laying around that I'm always trying to find a reason to use, sometimes I go overboard, like this base. It's alright though, and it does help to attract attention away from the wild cloak. Back to the debate...I really think old GW lost this one... Mourningcloud
hay darkstar-i love the brown tone on this mini. i gotta know how you highlighted the nmm chainmail-again (you and jester do this alot) youve hit on the exact effect i was looking for-i wanted to do some gold/brass nmm chainmail, but i couldnt get it to look right (im not an "artist" and have NO concept of color theory) so i just did it steel nmm. btw, the cloak looks pretty ok too (mourningcloud gnashes his teeth and diabolically prepares to anonymously give it five 1's on cmon out of pure jealousy)
Zordana
Aah i was wondering if that was the flowering foliage from Woodland Scenics. Im still searching about for an aussie supplier that isnt charging an arm and a leg. I found one supplier who was really cheap but he only had a few items in his store. Darkstar
Many thanks Gus, Enchantra and Skavenbabe @Zordana, do they any Model Railroading hobby stores near you? That's where I pick mine up. @Mourning Cloud, The Chain is one of the few things that was easy to do on this mini. My technique for NMM chainmail, in this case gold/bright brass chain: 1.Base coat White, paint chain black. 2.Dry/Wet brush Charred Brown or any really dark Brown 3.Dry/Wet brush Khaki Green. It's like a beige-olive green. 4.Dry/Wet brush Cobra Yellow. Aka the ever popular Snakebite. 5.Dry/Wet brush Green Ochre. It's the color of Egg Yolks. 6.Highlight with Bleached Bone up through to Light Sand for the hot spots. Dry/Wet brushing refers to dragging a brush across a textured surface like drybrushing, but not using a dry brush, rather one that's lightly loaded with pigment. Really tricky not to get the paint in the crevessas this way, but if you do, don't be afraid to have a wet qtip nearby to swab the color off the mini, let dry then try again. Peace. Zordana
I've had a major search around the net for Model Railroading stores, that's how I found the cheap one. I did find one that stocked a lot of WS stuff, but it was pretty expensive. At least it's there though, im having more problems finding someone who stocks Hudson & Allen products. I have a feeling I will have to order those from overseas. :)

According to what I've gathered, H&A aren't really making more stuff at the moment, so anything and everything that's available is from their back stock. It's anybodys guess when they will start up production again. That's why it's hard to find their product. There is a note at Fatization about this as well. Luckily for me there a really hidden away FLGS near me that has some serious OOP stuff and a nice little stash of H&A product as well...
