colorblind Is the dress blue?

Okay, so I need to share this as WIP but also need to know who else sees this like I did.  

I was painting this model from the box art. I've been using lots of green and purple lately and thought this joker and Robin model would be great.  One been a fan of Batman for a long time, but I didn't catch this detail on Robin's shirt.  It's red.  Not green. 

 

 

Take a look at this photo and tell me if I'm the only one who thought that was green too.  Made the correction to red, but I didn't know it until someone else pointed it out to me. 

 

 

So here i am dying to know if anyone else sees this picture as green. 

 

Here's the switched colors, but man what a loss of momentum and time.

 Well, from the angle of the figure in the pic and how the shirt is mostly shadowed, I could see how your brain might get tricked into thinking "green" since all the more prominent details around it are, and it's roughly the same tone and saturation as the rest of it... Especially if you actually have red/green vision issues.

 

But it's definitely red...

 

 

(Myself, I have trouble with certain brighter shades of red reading as orange.)

First of all, Robin looks amazing! Secondly, scientists still don't know if every human sees colours the same. We might both look at a shade called "Happy Day" and you might see it as more yellow and I might see it as more white and someone else might see it as more red. Finally, many people have a type of colour blindness, with red green being the most common. Because it's on the sex chromosome, it's more common in males; females have to inhert 2 faulty copies, males just one. If you do have colour blindness, Don't let it stop you! My friend had a painting by a colour blind relative with a green sunset. It was a fascinating look into how other people see the world and uniquely beautiful.

I know it's supposed to be red, but on that picture it reads as green to me too

 

Unless you meant the bottom pic which I do see as red.

 

My girl sees both pics like I do as well.

As a child, an argument over the color of Robin's outfit in a comic book is how I found out about color blindless and that my cousin was red-green colorblind to a degree. Totally blew my mind that people don't see colors the same way. 

But yeah, red torso, green sleeves.

Joker is the first thing you see in that image and the purple and green kind of dominate the image, so I can see how you'd miss the muted red of his tunic.  But I've always known Robin had a red tunic, he was my preferred hero of the duo.

Yah, original Robin colors will always show up, no matter what color is actually showing on the screen or artwork. He just has an iconic look to him. Only green I see in the pic are the color normally associated with him. Also Joker's hair & the bag beside Robin is an Olive drab. his tunic is definitely red.

I love hearing all the inputs, but it still sounds pretty overwhelming that his shirt is red.  I feel like having seen the comics and such, I should have recognized it, but my eyes got the better of my brain.  Being colorblind has it's limits and this is one of them that if it was something I didn't pay attention enough to what I know versus what my eyes see, well, then I got duped.  

 

There's a level of familiarity with colorblindess.  Like, I know apples are red and green, I know bananas are yellow, stop signs are red, pine trees are green, etc.  But there's times when something doesn't fit and I can't pick it up because my brain says, "It's like the others."  My friends always gave me grief for it.  "Dude, it's that guy over there in the purple hat.  No, not that one, that's blue.  The other one to his right.  No, that's also blue.  Are you blind?!"  I find it funny and all how we are looking at the same things at times, but I can't tell the color that they see, and I'm sure it's likewise they can't tell what I see unless there's an absolute to it like a stop sign being red.  The joy of colorblindess.  

 

Also, something else that makes it really hard for me are things like GW paints that name their colors things that have no real tangible color name.  Bugman's Glow, The Fang, etc.  Give me a 'thing' and then a color to it.  Mournfang 'brown.'  Thank you!  I sometimes have to number my colors to indicate it's the lowest hue or value of something and then know what can layer up to it.  I often wonder if my paiting would be different if it were easier for me to see them?  

 

Lastly, I've tried those Enchroma glasses and a few other colorblindess options.  It's like looking at the world with those old school blue/red 3d glasses. Everything is way off and the hues are all screwy.  Made me feel worse and more confused than without.  I digress.

 

Guess Robin just has to deal with my changing his shirt a few times.  Sorry, buddy.  Thanks for the input, y'all.  Very helpful to see what people saw.
