claymoore
This is an example of some other backdrop scenery that I've used. It is complicated, but IMO does not take away from the focus on the mini itself, but lends atmosphere. The plain backgrounds you use to post on CMON show your figures off better. The ruined tavern is nice. Dressing up the scene is fun!

haldir
something similar to this is in one my model magazine, where the person builds a garage scene, but divides the scene into 3 areas on a square board, more or less a t. Thus the person could A)have a indoor scene or B) have the car parked next to a brick wall (which is the wall for the interior scene or C) whatever in that 3 spot (can't recall what he did with it) Overall it made the model cars look more relistic + it gave some variety to the backdrops. I think this could work well with minis too, what a dungeon scene, do one part like a dungeon, want a grassy area or forest, turn the other parts into those. Durak
That would be cool Randy, do one like a dungeon, one outdoors, and one like a tavern.

FirstLevelFighter
There was a similar thread about fold-up paper terrain from WorldWorks here. The WorldWorks stuff looks trés cool, though I haven't tried any of it out myself. There are some good pics of minis in front of some of their stuff. WotC used to offer up a few well done fold-up paper buildings, walls, etc. for free on their site. Print them on cardstock or glue text weight paper to cardboard or foamcore, cut them up, put them together, and you have some cool terrain. It looks they may have pulled the files because they're planning to offer a booklet retail sometime in December. Shameful.
Spike
I used to prefer a flattish backdrop such as the grey cloth I used in Good and Evil Diorama, but now that I've discovered the lovely manual-focus feature on my digi and gotten half-way decent using it, I will be snatching more and more of Steve's scenery, as in this "closeup" picture I made of a mini by Anastrianna. I still try to find scenery that fits the model if I can, and I especially like bits such as doors or gates that "frame" the model, as does this "front and back" picture of a mini by Kellinator.
