madrogran
After going to my FLGS and buying 5 or 6 new minis, I just found out they were all done by Sandra Garrity. Wonderful detail and the characters I wanted to have. Now I just need to see if all the Reaper minis at the store were sculpted by her or if I just have a thing for her artwork ;) . Thanks!!! Enchantra
I happen to have the same thing happen usually. I walk in and buy minis, bring them home and they are all Garrity sculpts. The one thing about her sculpts though that I am starting to detest is how small her sculpted eyes are. Shaky hands and small eyes don't mix well. CripDyke
Yeah. I hear that. I have developed a love for Klocke - but he wasn't around when I started collecting minis 18 years ago. So SG was my first love....and I still really like her. I do take others' points about the similarity of her faces, but all sculptors reuse pieces of a sculpt in creating a new one. Ultimately, I'll live with the similar faces to get the other things that I love about her sculpts - and that are there so consistently. SaintRigger
I'm a big fan of Garrity's work as well... plus she is simply charming if you ever get the chance to talk to her.
Super Administrators kit Posted October 4, 2004 Super Administrators Share Posted October 4, 2004 We love Sandy. Those of you lucky enough to be up here on the 23rd for the Artists Conference will be in for a treat -- especially if you've never met her before. kit
pae
I've met her at ReaperCon, but maybe she can teach me how to sculpt rocks. Oh wait. She says she can't sculpt them, either.
haldir
wish I could go, but alas I will be saying home. Sandra is probably my favorite sculptor, mainly cause most of her minis are game related minis, where Warner's are kinda over the top type figs (stuff you see at shows, contests etc), don't get me wrong, WK is my 2nd fav sculptor, just Sandra has that D&D feel to them, for me at least. FirstLevelFighter
It was Sandra Garrity's work that initially drew me to Reaper miniatures. The detail and beautiful faces of her figures set her work apart. I have had the priviledge of meeting her at a Origins and Gen Con, and she was very charming and willing to chat about her work and miniature sculpting in general both times. She's a very wonderful and wonderfully talented person.
Gabe
I'm a sucker for Klocke's work, personally... the faces on his figures are great, and I like the style. Garrity is probably my 2nd favorite.
Madzerker
I used to like sandra but I have to admit she is one of my least favorites now. I love her griffon and giant eagle but I dont like her people anymore. I am a fan of klocke and bobby jackson now, but julie guthrie has been starting to impress me a lot. And for monsters wiebe is the best.
Darkstar
Sandra Garrity initially drew me in to buying Reaper minis in the first place. Her sculpts have a very realistic proportion and appearance. Well, realistic as far as High Fantasy is concerned anyway. One thing that I have trouble with is painting her minis though! The details are just too fine to make out, and there's so much detail on leg-plating, armor engraving, that sort of thing. I've had to resort to drybrushing most of her stuff that I've owned, just to capture the details. Still, very very amazingly talented. Oh, I also like her monsters as well, almost forgot to add that. Oh! And her Dragons are amazing!!!
battleMountainminis
S.G. also brought me to Reaper figs. well, they're just awesome though sometimes hard to paint.. I think though, As much as I love her humans, her horses and dragons are the best out there. I very rarely put a rider on anything but her horses. I can't wait to meet her at RAC. Mourningcloud
initially julie guthries minis drew me to reaper. i believe julie was the original reaper sculptor, including an award winning mini-Domur, hunter's moon. for a long time i disliked garritys minis because not only were the faces the same, but they always showed the faces-even her fighters never had full face visors. also her older minis costumes just turned me off-too many fringed hemmed tunics for my taste:vvvvv also im not partial to the swords she sculpts. but hey, what do i know. her new minis, however, are showing that when the new sculptors push she can indeed push back. heres to another 20 years of sandy gettin better n better! (oh and heres to more julie guthrie sculpts-i want to see some dhl as well as just them mummies-you hearin me Reaper? )
