Does that include Reaper forums?  Because I spend a lot of time here...

Yes and no. Read on.

This is something that I'd noticed, ( and am guilty of ) but Adrift beat me to saying something.

There's nothing wrong with coming to the Reaper forums and chatting with like minded people about a shared hobby. Heck, that's sort of the whole point!

However, there have been periods of time when the post count increases, but there are no new pictures threads.

Now, I'm not going to call anyone out, and I can't make anyone do anything, but it would be really cool to start seeing more " look what I painted" threads. Instead of telling us about the epic battle you fought over the weekend, show us pictures from the game! If you get really into the game and forget to take pictures, show the armies that did the fighting.

Don't worry about " I'm not very good ". Neither am I, go check out anything I've posted, it's all tabletop, or maybe slightly above tabletop in a few cases. We can all learn things from each other, even if it's just an idea for a different paint scheme.

So please, paint more, and show us what you painted!

(or are working on, WIP threads are also cool!)

I feel called out.

I'm kidding.  To be honest, I agree wholeheartedly.  I don't post all that many pictures of what I am painting, but I should.  It always feels nice to post those pictures.  I really liked posting pictures of everything I finished in January, and I'll probably do that again for February, but individual minis are fun to post too.

Most of the painters have fled to Discord. Posting pics here doesn't seem to generate much interest or discussion any more.  And most of the good painters, the ones scooping up golds and Sophies don't bother to come here these days.  I'm pretty sure the majority of folks still posting in the forum here haven't touched a brush in years.

But I agree it would be nice to see more from those who are still painting.

Wait, are you telling me I'm hanging out with all the old painters, while all the cool younger painters are over on Discord?

Good.

THE PARABLE OF THE GREAT ARTIST

There once was a man who wished more than anything to be a great artist.

And so he asked himself, every day,

"What must I do to become a great artist?"

After some consideration, he determined that he should go observe the great artists
and perhaps he would learn how they had become great artists.
And so he watched them for quite some time.

After completing his research, he sat down at his easel and considered what he had
seen. But he knew not how to become a great artist.

And he asked himself, again,

"What must I do to be a great artist?"

He had noticed that all the artists wore the latest clothes, and acted in a superior
manner.
So he stood up and declared, "Aha! In order to be a great artist, I must dress as
they do and act as they do!"

And so he dressed fashionably and put on airs...

But... he found he was not yet a great artist.

Dejected, he went back and observed the artists again. Then for many days he
pondered the issue, and spent all his time in contemplation, asking himself,

"What must I do to be a great artist?"

And then he said to himself,
"Aha! All of the great artists have attended great schools. In order to be a great
artist, I must attend a great school!"

And so he enrolled in a prestigious academy, and became learned.

But... he was still not yet a great artist.

Again, he returned to observe the artists. And again he returned home and thought
and thought, and nearly drove himself mad. Every day, he would look in the mirror and
ask himself,

"What must I do to be a great artist?"

And then one day he said to himself, looking in the mirror,
"All of the great artists congregate at that little cafe to speak of important
things.
To be a great artist... I must go there to speak of important things!"

And so he sat at the little cafe, and kept company with the masters.

But he was still not yet a great artist.

Distraught, he spent many weeks locked in his room, searching for the answers he
sought.
Until, one morning, he arose from his chair after spending another sleepless night
staring at the wall and stumbling into the bathroom he looked at his reflection in
the mirror.
He saw his own bloodshot eyes, his stubbled chin and the haggard look upon his
countenance, and in complete despair he rested his head against the mirror and
wailed,

"What...must...I..DO... to become a great artist???"

And then, after several minutes, he raised his head, looking himself in the eyes.

 And said to himself,

"In order to become a great artist...

...I must first paint something."

 And so I did.

Close. I think people here are just old, not painters.  😆

If you want to see the painted stuff and enter into discussion about paints, figures, or painting, they're hanging out on Discord.
