Lady Tam
someone in a different thread mentioned how well they sell thier minis on Cmon, and I was wondering what other's thought of thier on-line auction stuff. Pros, cons? LT
Jester
It's not selling directly on CMON, it's advertising/featuring your eBay auction to the CMON site. You have to PAY for featuring your auction/privilege - per auction. But it is one way to gain some more hits to your auction if you are looking that way. Otherwise you can just link your auction, but it won't be seen in the itty bitty side window on the left at times. Personally, I find it hit or miss feature. It can bring more hits if you need it. comicbkguy
I think featuring your auction on CMON definitley helps. I don't sell much on ebay anymore though. My stuff is much better than it was a couple of years ago and I get less on my auctions now. There are just too many people who have gotten so much better in the last couple of years. The market is flooded with good painters.
pae
It definitely increases the number of views you get on your auction, but it doesn't do diddly squat about increasing the number of bids you get on an auction. At least, that's been my experience.
zaphod
I agree Flynn.
pae
I still have a few credits, so I'll probably post a few more there. But after that, I'm not going to bother with it.
E-Arkham
I've just started using the Featured Auction option with four auctions I put up last week. They're not ended yet, so I really don't know what the final result will be, but thus far: * As of this writing I have had no bids. Usually someone bids within a day of the auction going up or chooses the Buy-It-Now option by now. * All the featured auction miniatures have clearly had their scores "sniped" on a regular basis on CoolMiniOrNot. Personally, I think this part is funny because snipers rarely if ever have a long lasting impact on a score, and it's all about jealousy. * One of the featured advertisements has been "viewed" over 8000+ times. What this means I can't guess, but the "clicks on auction" for all the featured miniatures is higher than normal: 40-50, when my usual is 5-10. Of course, the format of CoolMini is such that if you want to view the miniature more closely, you click on the featured link and it takes you to the auction whether or not you have any interest in actually buying it. The end result is that while the numbers might seem impressive, they as of yet are not translating into bids. * The number of watchers per auction is somewhat more than average. I don't know if I should expect a lot of sniping as the auction ends or if they're just curiousity seekers waiting to see what the final prices are. I can't tell if it's helping or hurting, quite frankly. In the future, I might just reserve the featured auction thing for dioramas or display pieces and stick to using Buy-It-Now auctions. What this means I can't guessIt means that your featured auction has been displayed on a page served by CMoN or one of its affiliates. It doesn't mean anyone has looked at it, though. Watchers on an auction also don't mean anything to me. I've had an auction with 15 watchers end with no bids. And an auction get a few bids with no watchers. I have now pulled 60 minis from the place. I have 6 left, and if they drop any more, they are gone (except the Flash).

I had pulled a bunch of my early stuff, and I have been debating pulling the rest... Hmmm... I guess a bunch of us are pretty sick and tired of the whole thing, eh? But yes, auctions get sniped. As if a lower score will somehow translate into a lower price. Just remember, eBaying is primarily people looking for DEALS. Advertising costs, no matter how you do it. pae
All of mine have been pulled as well, Jester. And I mean *all* of them.
Cerridwyn1st
All of mine have been pulled as well, Jester. And I mean *all* of them. I'm sorry to hear that, Flynn. I like to look at minis on CMON for inspiration. It's sad to see someone good pull the plug. That much less inspiration available there. Jester
All of mine have been pulled as well, Jester. And I mean *all* of them. I knew you pulled all of yours after your responses to Darkstar's thread in the Off Topic... That was two talented painters... somehow I expect to see some others I know pull theirs also. It almost makes me want to open up - not a competing site - but a site that would accurately and completely rank a miniature. Ie, you would have to be a member to vote, and votes would be public for all to see. Sad day... but I understand. I'm almost there myself. Zordana
I keep hoping some hardcore website person will make another ebay featuring member only voting site. Its a little saddening that the majority of people will just 'settle' when it comes to websites like these instead of trying to perfect them. But yes, auctions get sniped. As if a lower score will somehow translate into a lower price. I feel a bit better about my scores now that ive read that. ;) Its true though, I dont know why they think a low score will translate to a lower price. It makes little difference at all. As for more cmon views not translating to more bids, well the way I see it is, more views = more potential for bids. May not always amount to anything, but im sure it does help occasionally. For now im content with paying cmon to feature my auctions. *shrug*

Scores just leave it all wide open for sniping.
