We stopped by a camera place last night. Jo/u/lie our friendly scribe helped us test the three cameras the gentleman suggested. He suggested two Nikkons and an Olympus... within our price range, the Olympus was the worst quality, even though it's the brand I was more familiar with.

Of those three, we were most impressed with the Nikkon CoolPix 3200. Does anyone have any experience with this camera? Is it a good one? I know it has 3X Optical Zoom and a Macro setting, and the pics we took (in bad light, granted) were pretty clear. Are there any ugly surprises laying in wait for us if we got this camera?

Thanks folks!

Jess

Another good site is epinions.com

Not always the best deal, but a lot of compairison.

I have a Nikon CP-5000 and it does more than I can figure out. But unless you go to extreemly high end, digital cameras have a lag from the time you push the button until the pic is taken. Tough for action shots.

My understanding of the Coolpix line in general is that they have the best macro functions.

Thanks y'all, those are interesting. I don't know a whole lot of the terms to know whether it's a good or bad thing to have in a camera... specifically for shooting mini! I think that's my biggest concern here... review sites tell me everything a camera does (or doesn't) and how, and I really want to know someone's experience of shooting 15-25 mm Reaper Miniatures!

I'm also realizing that having all the camera setting icons on the view screen really

distracts me... I'd have a hard time centering/sizing my image and stuff. But then, I'm spacially strange like that...

Thanks folks.

review these threads if you have the time, the questions about what one wants in a camera have been addressed there...

digital cameras, what should I buy

what to buy, I'm going to get a digital camera

2mp, 3mp, or 4mp, that is the question

camera investments

and there are several other old threads (change your sort options at the bottom of the main shutterbug forum page) that could also be helpful, but these were a start.
