I also use the two DHL bear riders for my armies, as well as numerous single Dwarf figs. When there is a DHL Dwarf by the name of Brag Ironballs, you have no choice but to field him!!

 

It's like I always say around here "You can't have (Brag) Ironballs without a (Gargram) Heavyhand!"

 

Like everyone else has been saying, so long as the proxy looks like what it is supposed to represent, then I allow. I remember one time someone was playing Nefsokar and had a ton of mummies. He was like "This unit of mummies here are my archers and this one here is my breakers...". We let it slide one game, just so he could the feel for the rules, but then gently coaxed him into buying more minis.

That would be great! I know, this idea is a couple of years old, but I hope it isn't completely dead, yet. Soon™ would be too much to hope for, but is someone working on this at all?

Yeah, good observation there. There's also a DHL version of Orba Sinhan. IIRC, it's not quite as barrel-chested as the Warlord one. Maybe it was from Orba's younger days.

Remember that model painters have weak willpower; If you let them use whatever they have available, they will buy Warlord figs eventually . The Warlord figure line is good enough to sell itself, imo.

 

I was buying Warlord befor I even knew it was a game.

Lots of the stuff in Warlord first saw the light of day as Dark Heaven Figures. Sisters of the Blade. Templar Knights, Malvernis Black Legion.

I know Reaper has chimed in before, but I wanted to chime in again since the thread was resurrected.

 

Reaper would like for all of you to enjoy playing Warlord. If you use chess pieces on cardboard squares, or your old DHL models, or new DHL models, or old GW models, or coke-can pull-tabs painted different colors, we only ask that you be courteous enough to your opponent that the proxy you have chosen is easily identifiable as what it should be. If that means writing "Archer" and "Warrior" on each cardboard square, or being sure that your adepts are unpainted while your warriors are painted and the breakers are primed only, then so be it. If you can manage the models to do it, or want to convert, then it's even nicer if your spearbearers actually have spears, and your archers have bows. If your opponent cannot easily distinguish your low DV breakers from your high DV shieldbearers, (or the mage from the grunts, the leader formt he mage, etc) then they are likly to make tactical errors that would make their experience of the game un-fun.

 

We do ask that if you bring your models to play in the tournaments at ReaperCon, GenCon Indy, or Origins (And NOTE: We don't go to all 3 every year), that you bring the actual models, where available for purchase. If you just come to the booth to play a friendly game on our table, bring your cardboard and coke-tabs.

 

Having said all of that: It is the responsibility of the event/tournament organizer to make every participant in the event aware well in advance of what will be allowed. I won't be at the next advertized tournament on the home page of our website. One of our BL reps will - and it is that person's responsibility to make sure that things go smoothly. So BL Organizer Person may determine for their own game that A) cardboard is not allowed, or b)that DHL is ok but GW is right out, or c)that it must be Warlord only, or d)that we have nifty 1" plastic bases with names written on them in Gel Pen, or e)something entirely different. At local event's, it's their call, not mine.

 

Oh, and FWIW, My Reven army is 100% Warlord models, but my Nefsokar army uses only 3 actual Warlord models, the rest being proxies from DHL from before the Nefsokar models were released AT ALL. I have used both armies in friendly games here at REAPER HQ and not one person ever complained.
