Slackandowski
Anyone ever try using hidden deployment for a CAV scenario? Something like CAV's being powered down as an opponent advances on a position. Anyone try this? Results? I think it would make for a good scenario and maybe even more "realistic" (and I use that term loosely of course).
Stubbdog
Bob: "Hmmm, wonder what that is over there in that 30 foot tall bush over there? Looks kinda like an Ogre, but, nah couln't be, not picking up anything on radar... Must be my imagination...." Frank: "I know what you mean, I coulda sworn that i saw a Rhino parked between the Mercedes and the Volvo, but my screen wouldn't confirm it. I gotta get my systems checked out..." Sorry, just teasing, but I couldn't resist.
Slackandowski
LMAO! Good point...so maybe add a roll to see hidden CAVs at certain ranges? A visual check?
Chrome
Hmmmm.... Mankind can jump from solar system to solar system in seconds, but they can't figure out a way to camoflague 30' of metal? Highly doubtful. I would think a simple pocket in 4D space would be sufficient to hide a Rhino until enemy units got within range.
Wreckmaster
I seem to remember something, somewhere in those pesky rules stating that there are no hidden units.
Jeneki
If you want to include hidden stuff (as part of a scenario), I think it would make more sense to use infantry or light vehicles for the purpose. There is a story about hidden infantry with AT-23's using a scrapped CAV as bait to lure in enemy CAVs and surprise them.
warlordgarou
I did a hidden deployment a couple times. Basically, the fluff was that a massive electrical storm was in the area, and unit commanders were positioning troops, waiting for the storm to clear enough for them to engage. I did it as a double-blind, so each player set up their units without seeing the other side of the table. It worked pretty well. I did toy with the idea of doing an underground, cavern-style table, with units being capable of hidden movement, but decided that it was too much work to be practical. Slackandowski
oooooh......hidden infantry...lots of 'em. I like that idea. And a couple of Puma's hunting them down....the smell of burning flesh.....mmmm... and the double blind would be good to for deployment. I guess that's more what I'm referring to. Hidden deployment rather than movement. great ideas....
Froy The Orc
Actually in the fluff there is such a thing as camouflage from paint jobs, but as Wreckmaster pointed out that the rules I think say something about no hidden units. Though we can hide a Scorpion in a pond, and paint.....can't remember what CAV it is to look like its predessesor and then confuse the pilots into thinking it is less of a threat then what it is. HANZO
Instead of hidden couldent you have Mid-battle deployment................ say have a section hold a base or area with renfocements on the way, that deploy at a set time.... Like say one section must hold an area for 4 turns....on turn 5 another section appears from one of the sides and renfocements......
Slackandowski
OOoooohhh...I like that idea...have their deployment area unkown...maybe to both sides!
