Psyros and cog

I have registered with COG and am a Psyros Hive.  I need more information on when the figs are comming out, what I can do to play Psyros until then, and how they are organzed.  Plus just anything more than what is in the CAV and JOR.  

 

I would like to know how to organize my sections [if they don't use the standard 4 units per]. and is there anyway for me to purchase 'bits' [like scorpion legs] with out buying a bunch of figs?

So far, there are three Psyro units out, in the JoR, the Drone A, Aggressor A, and Aggressor B.  They follow all the standard CAV rules for deployment and game-play.

 

With the construction rules in the JoR, it should be a simple matter to create whatever you want, and limited only by your modeling expertise.

 

As for buying bits, that's nothing I'm qualified to answer.

Well when I run a tournament as a Black Lightning event, the only Psyros I would contemplate allowing would be the ones listed in the JoR at the JoR prices.  The model itself can be any parts you want, because no two psyros are the same right?   Think of a psyro as a lifesized snowflake that can kill you.  heheh

 

I absolutely would NOT allow a JoR constructed CAV or Psyro or anything in any tournament I ran, and I would not play in an open tournament that allowed such a thing.  I don't think official Reaper tournaments can have units constructed by the construction kit either...

 

I would probably not allow Psyros period depending on what other demo team members think.  Tough question...

 

I ban ace crewmen as it is, so why not discriminate more  :D

Well, First, as an official COg member, you should have to allow me to play my faction.  It seems silly for me to be able to be a Psyros in COG, but not get to play them in tournaments.  I thought thats what COG was all about?!

 

In the JOR it states that, "You can only use published CAV, vehicles, and aircraft/gunship data cards."  [makes the psyros in the JOR legal]  It then goes on to say, "By useing the parts from published System & Weapon Modifications lists, you may alter the modular components and Weapon Systems."

 

The problem I am having is that The Psyros from the JOR do not have Point Costs listed for the Modular parts.  This means I can not change the modular parts on them and they there for are not at all like the descriptions in the Fluff.

I guess that's up to Reaper, but for game balance I will not allow weapon swapping for *ANY* CAV that is in a tournament I run.  I have seen the rule exploited (changing weapons, target lock systems, ECM systems, etc) and I will not allow it whatsoever.  I don't care who you are heh

 

Wave the JoR in front of my face all you want I still wouldn't let you do it.  :D

 

I will allow units to remove weapons only (e.g. you can remove that lame IF pod that Dictators have and save the points).  And do "minor" upgrades including armor, movement, repair, and crew.  No structural upgrades.

 

Technically you should be able to use an Ace crewman in a tournament too but I ban that as well.

 

I guess that I thought COG was going to be for mercenary units only, if your intention is to have a merc psyro band, I need more explanation as to how that plugs into the current game world.

1) There is no COG yet. †Just a webpage with some merc unit names on it.

 

2) If you read the instructions for joining COG (http://www.cavhq.com/cog.html), you will notice that you can not sign up as *any* faction, only mercenaries. †You may pick which faction your merc unit is allied with (if any), but nothing more than that.

 

3) The Psyro models in the JoR can not be modified in any way, nor can their crew/skill levels be increased.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound snotty.  I hate email and forums sometimes, because you can miss interpret 'tone' and meaning.

 

I was just saying, as a COG member, I contacted them and was told it is acceptable to be a Psyros Hive.  I don't see much of a problem with swaping out weapons as long as it is the pre published weapons and they are modeled with the new systems.  If Reaper will allow you on an individual basis to dissalow something they have set as tournament legal, thats fine.  I will play with what is available.  It is just that I have worked for a few companies in the past that do not give thier reps that kind of freedom and I was a little shocked at the way it was stated is all.  

 

Again, no harm, no foul!  I am really glad I have gotten back into CAV now that the JOR is out and finally hav efreinds who are wanting to play!

Gobo let me try to adress the problem with the Psyros, (though it is cool that you chose them as your faction. I do run them from time to time and find them to be lots of fun).

 

They are just being introduced and to be quite honest they are the only ones out there using Plasma weapons of any kind... or good at disasembling targets when going in hand to hand. They also have their PS and WS hardcored as well as their supresion for a reason... but they are quite good.

 

Now what am I using to build my Psyros?

 

Tyranid parts, MWDA Mechs, hey I found some Shard (VOR). Then again I have some spare parts from CAVs, plenty of Mechs... get my drift here? Anything goes.

 

I also believe that it is quite hard to build Psyros right now using the construction rules because.... as cool as the rules are and all of that the Psyros ARE a special case.

 

Now to tourneys... you want to use any PUBLISHED datacard... sure why not? Modified data cards, I would have to think very hard about it. The reason for this... well the abuse I have seen with both BattleTech and Heavy Gear, and while MOST players are not that way... most pay for the sins of the few. The second reason is quite frankly I do not want to spend two hours checking over people's math. It takes away from actual play time and detracts from what we all go to do at tourneys, which is quite frankly play. It also leads to some folks tweaking systems in ways that they were not meant to because they want to win so bad that they will find any and all holes that were missed and exploit them. This takes the fun away from the game for most others and the easy way of avoiding hurt feelings and cries of munchkiism is to just take a hard stand and say... unless the tourney is announced as a demolition derby, bring custom built machines... it is assumed to be only official sheets only.

 

I might be crazy enough to one day run one of these custom jobbies tourneys... to be promply removed to the loony farm... did it once for Tech and that cured me... or so I thought. But the only way to do it is if people submit their designs way in advance... no last second submisions, and if you have several people checking over designs. When I say well in advance I mean a hard deadline, two weeks in advance of such a beast at the latest.
