...What else I need

4) The number of how many people are in your area who will play CAV with you during the testing (obviously we want the game to actually be played so solo folks in the boonies with no access to other players aren't really needed at this time. Sorry, that's the ropes):

well fine I'll just go back down in to my unabomb style shack and pout

Of course, if Spartan gets one then I'll have to drive up to Topeka and play a couple games. (oh, and of course, steal his copy  )

Just my luck - a chance to be a beta tester and I got no group to play with right now. <_<

Anyway, could we get an rough overview of the new options/changes to the game? Artillery strikes were already mentioned, anything else?

EDIT: Sorry Matt - saw your post only after I hit reply.

umm well lets see... its Faster to Play, It has lots and lots of new options, but no in a way that will overwhelm you. Fully compliant with the no mini left behind concept...ohh wait that was no child left behind, never mind....I would tell you about Arty strikes but you said they were already mentioned.... ::P:

Faraday might not be interrested but I sure am.

I'm also interrested in whether or not chainlock units still need to be in the same section as the arty.

Yes. How force organization would be handled is something that has interested me since the first rumbling of the RAGE system came about.

However, I'll be willing to wait until next week to see If I get a download invitation before anyone answers that.

Let me tell you how happy my local group was to hear that things are moving forward. When I sent one of them an email asking if the wanted to get in on the Beta group his response was three screens full of the word 'ME!'

These announcements have made lots of disheartened players very happy.

Oh, And, with the Beta getting ready to open up, would it be possible to Have the CAV's listed by UCOR in the online store? (As if Kit didn't have enough on his plate already).

I should probably let others talk about this since I'll usually be too swamped to answer detailed questions like this as the weeks wear closer to the end of the year but you've caught me at a good time.

I'll bullet list the items (left side Warlord concept right side CAV)

The RAGE-ification of CAV (or as we call it here at Reaper ... "RAGE against the Machine" ... painful yet true.)

Fighting Company = Task Force

Troop = Platoon

Main Model Types (Leader, Solo, Elite, Soldier) = Main Model Types (CAV, Gunship, Vehicle, Infantry)

Model Subtypes (Warlord, Adept, Cleric, Sergeant, etc.) = Model Subtypes (Light CAV, Heavy Infantry, Scout Gunship, Hunter-Killer Gunship, APC, etc.)

Troop Size = Platoon Type

Grunts = Primary Platoons

Adepts/Solos = Secondary Platoons

A Warlord Troop

In Warlord you choose a Leader Model. That Model determines the minimum and maximum number of Models that can be in the Troop as well as how many Elites. Some Models like Adepts are less common than others and Solos can never outnumber Leader Models.

A CAV Platoon

In CAV 2 (currently) you choose a Platoon type (Armor, Light Armor, Flight, Mechanized Infantry, Rifle, Specialist, Fire Support, etc.) and the Platoon Type will dictate what types of Models you can take and how many (maximums and minimums). Some Models are less common than others and are part of Secondary Platoons. Secondary Platoons can never outnumber Primary Platoons.

A Warlord Fighting Company

Several Troops all with different strengths and weaknesses fighting together to meet an objective.

A CAV Task Force

Several Platoons all with different strengths and weaknesses fighting together to meet an objective.

A comment on "Magic" versus "Instants"

From a purely game design standpoint "Magic" in Warlord is an effect or power that happens at a particular moment, does something, and then effectively goes away. It's not a core part of the flow of the game but rather an event that a player invokes at a moment that is hopefully beneficial to his or her own side.

Likewise CAV has "Instants" that do the same thing. Instead of Clerics, you have Engineers. Instead of Mages, you have FISTs (fire support teams).

Clerics in Warlord are primarily there to "buff" (augment your side) or "heal" (allow you to continue fighting) or even at the most powerful levels help the Fighting Company fight better or deal damage (part or teleport). Mages are primarily there to inflict damage by casting spells (Fireball, firestorm, bolt, etc.).

Engineers in CAV are primarily there to "buff" (by putting down cover or creating firing positions) or "heal" (by using repair modules to augment a CAV's own built in repair ability) or even at the most powerful levels help the Task Force fight better or deal damage (minefields). FIST Models are primarily there to inflict damage by calling in Strikes (strafing runs, artillery, orbital pinpoint hits, cruise missiles, etc.).

I hope that's a little bit better than one of Reaper Bryan's infamous teases.

Reaper Bryan would be the one that handles re-organizing the Online store so he's the one to bribe/threaten/cajole.

Will there be playtesting at the Asylum? I hope so, since I have no CAV players to play with other than there.

Where abouts do you live Tobascoman? If I get approved to get one of the packets, well you can come join me in some metal testing goodness. I am in the mid-cities area about 10 minutes west of DFW airport.
