Ceynuundra Aelvari - Elven High Command

Recommended Posts

Thanks GE. Meeting at the Police Dept today to discuss it. I feel it likely I'm not at fault. Being rear-ended while turning by a guy late for a meeting is a pretty safe bet.

The free turn discussion makes sense to me now. It's a timing issue - whether it's better to get an earlier swing with your DS, or to preserve them while letting your warrriors get pummeled.

Slings and arrows.

Hey! Post number 100. Yea me.

No, what I'm saying is I don't worry about warriors, free turns, or anything with my Deathseekers; it's like giving a toddler a bib and a spoon to eat Spaghetti with. You can spend a lot of time trying to get them to eat correctly and be neat, or you can just set the plate in front of them, step back, and let them get sauce and noodles in every crevice of their clothing and bodies.

Same with me and DS's ::D:.

Ain't it amazing how they manage to do that? I swear you could Teflon coat everything the baby has, and it would still find a way to stain it.

Sadly, I've seen some adults who manage to do the same ::D:

1st birthday cakes are always a good one for this analogy too.

Yeah; kinda makes you wonder where the Deathseeker custom of painting their faces with green warpaint came from doesn't it?

Another tactic tidbit I love; the Pie Plate of Doom. It's our pet name for a 20 attack Elven volley. I tell ya, a little part of me giggles each time I think about when I use it. Even when I roll spectacularly bad and only wound a portion of the models under it the psychological effect it has on the other player is great. If you want to force your opponent to move forward quickly without careful consideration dropping one of those bad boys on his deployment area is a good way to do it.

Oh, and I can't believe I haven't mentioned (in this thread at least) my favorite model to use in high point games; Caerwyn. Take all 212 lovely points of her, slap on a 75 point Greater Accuracy upgrade, and whammo; if she uses Critical Shot her RAV goes up to 10. Needless to say you want to protect the heck outta her, but at a 30" range you can take out or wound just about any model in the game you could care to. You can even use her second attack to hit something else, as a 5 RAV isn't anything to sneeze at either. If you want to really add insult to injury, put her in Danithal's squad and add Niriodel with a lot of Blesses to give her RAV 12 Critical Shot or 3 RAV 6's.

Or, you could always just use Marksman to get three RAV 5 shots in a turn. I can't see doing it easily in a 750 point game, but once my limit gets above 2000 it's an almost sure inclusion.

Ah, reminds me of another trick; using the Elven Sure Shot for volley fire formations. Instead of stringing them in one loooong line bunch them up in a zigzag either two or three deep per zag; as long as you can tilt the formation to the line of attack you want you can fire through a smaller area. This works great if you have Niriodel throw in a Bless spell before the volley too, as the only thing better than a RAV 3 Volley over a 5" AoE is a RAV 4 one.

Hello fellow Captains of Almirithal

Sorry I dont get the chance to reply much but im busy in the fields

But now I need you help.

I will soon be assaulting a reven held fortress

Now gennerally this isnt the kind of thing an elf should do, go screaming up to a castle infested with green filth but a jobs a job

I have 2000 points to work with and all the elf minis anyone could want (almost)

my opponent will have 1400 points but he is in a very nifty castle wish I had pics for

Any way how am I going to do this?

I have an excellent record in the open field but I have never tried to come to grips with an enemy yet any advice

And thank you

1. Remember that standing higher than someone gives range bonuses (related to Reven archers and spellcasters)

2. Read Golden Eagle's post just before yours.

Well, one thousand points gets you one group of adepts, so somewhere between 6 and 10.

I think you need a Brazer for indirect volley.

yup, you need a blazer for Indirect volley shot.

Just so everyone is on the same page and I like the sound of my own voice (figitively speaking that is), a blazer acts as a spotter for the archers so the blazer model needs LoS (though the rest of archer models don't have to.)

Currently the only blazer model in the Elven roster that has the blazer SA in Caerwynn, who runs about 220.

I put that the wrong way -- I believe that the army would benefit from the ability to use indirect volleys, and that the Lord of the leaves should include one.

Ouch, Caerwynn. I'd love to field her, but I don't believe she is a great model to have in a 1,000 point force. Something like:

Troop 1

Selwyn w/ LAU

Caerwynn w/ Bandage, Divine Saver ( :poke: ), LMA

Archers X6

2 Warriors w/ Musician

Troop 2

Merdth

3 Warriors w/ musician

3 Long thorns

3 Breakers or 2 DS

Troop 3

Centaur

996 Points, if I did it right

Giving Selwyn LAU is necessary so she can participate in the volleys without bringing down the MAV 3. 6 Archers plus Cearwynn's 3 shots (w/ marksman) and Selwyn's 1 gives a total of 16 shots in turn, all at least at MAV 3.

I have to be honest - I'm not that fond of this list. Seems top heavy. I'd probably give up Caerwynn for a slightly weaker vers of Troop 2

If you're going to use Caerwyn for an indirect volley troop I'd actually suggest you have her in Selwyn's troop but not give Selwyn any accuracy upgrades; instead, go for a GMA and LMP on Selwyn.

The reason is Caerwyn has very little armor, and not that much when you upgrade her. Instead, park Caerwyn mostly behind cover but where she has a good view of an important chunk of the battlefield. Place all the happy archers in a block in base to base contact with her, and put Selwyn in front to block LOS to Caerwyn. When its their activation, move Selwyn out of the way, fire with Caerwyn (you'll have the 20 attacks you need for the Pie Plate O' Doom), then move Selwyn back in position to block anything coming at Caerwyn.

Otherwise, if you don't plan on volleying a lot, loading up a full troop of archers is a great points buy without taking a huge chunk out of your points.
